White Sox (63-48) @ Orioles (37-74), 5/5 Game THREAD
There aren't that many must-wins in baseball, but I think it's fair to say that this is a must-win.

So I wrote something about the White Sox
Based on xBABIP, Viciedo should be hitting around .275.

Greinke very candid about frustration with Royals
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 11:15 PM) I don't know how. The guy has a very good eye, has some pop for a MI, and can steal 15-20 SBs and he gets signed for only $2+ million. I don't know how this guy wasn't an option for more teams. I was clamoring for Kenny to sign him. They probably got scared of his terrible 2009 numbers.

Dreaming of working for the white sox
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 10:35 PM) Yeah, it is...I was talking with Voros McCracken about 4 months ago and he was looking for work...so it can definitely be tough. McCracken's probably one of the most influential sabermetricians of this past decade, too. Even in this case, it's all about getting noticed and knowing the right people. McCracken and his theories became big because he got noticed by Rob Neyer. After he got famous, he did land a job with the Red Sox. It seems like he's no longer doing much baseball research, he's trying to quantify soccer instead (hard to do).

a great post overlooked in the game thread...
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) That's what I've been saying. Negativity always wins. And don't worry milkman, with your suggestion people just leave if they don't like the direction of the board. As the great badger indicated, don't worry, that is happening already. Thanks for your support. There's not that many options when it comes to fully devoted White Sox message boards. This and WSI are two of the major ones. I don't know of any other ones like this forum and WSI. Unless you want to get brain hurt on the MLB.com White Sox message boards or something, there's really not that much of a choice. To me, this is by far the most intelligent group of people I've seen on a Sox message board.

THE CLUB - 2010
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 09:12 PM) It was Berkman and Cash to the White Sox. Wow... I would have sure love to have Berkman for nothing. That + EJax would have been a hell of a deadline.

THE CLUB - 2010
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 08:40 PM) Great episode damn you Berkman. Deal was done. That was def. Uspsetting and you could tell KW was pissed. I'm sure Berkman would love to be on the Sox right now. He's been the subject of a ton of boos in New York. BTW, did the show say anything about who we were going to give up for him?

Video Game Catch-All Thread
Just played the Madden demo. I'm sort of saddened by the fact that there is no more turbo. It almost feels like there's something vital missing.

Dreaming of working for the white sox
I'm sure this would be the hard way, but... If you're a math major or some really math-related major and knows a thing or two about statistics - look into baseball statistical analysis. Start a blog, do some really good, ground-breaking research. Get noticed, you'll get hired by a team. I was talking about this with qwerty, he told me there's 20 or so people getting picked up from the blogosphere by MLB teams. It's a shot in the dark in a lot of ways, but if you have the background, you can give it a try.

Sox @ Orioles - Buehrle vs. Guthrie
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) A pulled groin muscle can be a horribly slow recovery. Let's hope Gordon's a fast healer.

a great post overlooked in the game thread...
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 06:55 PM) I'd hate to be on a board with uniform opinion. One of the joys of this board for me is being challenged by other posters for my opinions on guys like Swish or Nix,. It makes me think and it makes me work to make myself a better baseball fan. I'd hate to see this board be swallowed up by either blind optimism or bitterness. I like our happy medium. Exactly. If all this board was just people loving the White Sox and saying they're the best team in the world, it would be really boring and dry. The diversity of opinion is what is great and I don't think people need to make threads saying that everybody should think one way.

Sox @ Orioles - Buehrle vs. Guthrie
QUOTE (Real @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) Twins have gained i think 4 games on us since the ASB? Nice. Three games. Four games since we won the first game in Minnesota.
-
Sox @ Orioles - Buehrle vs. Guthrie
Only half a game up. Let's hope we can go into Tuesday with at least a 1 game lead.
-
Sox @ Orioles - Buehrle vs. Guthrie
What a tease.

Sox @ Orioles - Buehrle vs. Guthrie
At 'em ball. Damn it.

Sox @ Orioles - Buehrle vs. Guthrie
That run in the 7th was HUGE. Come on Lillibridge.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) Twins win...Indians gift-wrapped this game for them. One bad inning...
-
Sox @ Orioles - Buehrle vs. Guthrie
There's life left, maybe.
-
Sox @ Orioles - Buehrle vs. Guthrie
Ugh. This has been one ugly series.
-
Sox @ Orioles - Buehrle vs. Guthrie
If they get this run, our chances at this game goes down by quite a bit.

Sox @ Orioles - Buehrle vs. Guthrie
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) 16 K's now. 8 IP. Too bad he can't get 20 Ks and a no-no.
-
Sox @ Orioles - Buehrle vs. Guthrie
Looks like the Indians will have to do our dirty work.

Sox @ Orioles - Buehrle vs. Guthrie
QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) Markakis has been more disappointing since the start of '09 than just about anyone else I can think of. He's still a very good player, but yeah, I would have expected him to be a guy who's OPSing .950 with 30 home runs by now.
-
Sox @ Orioles - Buehrle vs. Guthrie
Wouldn't it be something if the Rays got no-hit again...?

Sox @ Orioles - Buehrle vs. Guthrie
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) Yeah, and I think they'd be happy to take Quentin, Konerko, and Rios. Of course, no one would trade Roberts, Markakis, and Scott for Konerko, Quentin, and Rios. I was thinking about having them for free, hypothetically.
