  1. QUOTE (Real @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 11:08 AM) Rios was safe btw. Blown call I also seem to remember Rios being called safe when he was out. These things even out over time.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 03:00 AM) Rios was safe, so actually no. That's not the point. He's been caught around 10 times this year. 25/35 is not a good rate.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 11:43 PM) Funny quote in the Trib notes about tonight's game. ... Guillen asked about Sox not getting Delgado ... “To sign Delgado here, I would rather have Jim Thome,” Guillen said. It didn't add any further context, but figured it'd spark some wild reax on the message boards since Oz didn't want Big Jim last winter. I wish he had said something like that this past off-season... "To re-sign Kotsay here, I would rather have Jim Thome". Ozzie would then become a lot more likable in my book.
  4. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 11:55 PM) This is a big game. The next five are big games. You don't want to lose 2 of 4 to the Orioles. Ideally, you'd like to be at least 2 up on the Twins come Tuesday. 3 games would be even better, but you can't expect the Indians to win tomorrow.
  5. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 11:55 PM) I guess my point is this: talent trumps all, and pitching wins games. Batting order is somewhat low on my list of priorities, though I do recognize that it's one of the few skills asked of a manager. Also, I don't really hear much complaining about 1-5 in our batting order, really it's just a guy or two hitting 6-9, and even they have done a fair job of scoring runs since beckham and alexei decided to get their heads out of their butts. It sure is easy to make the back of a lineup look "good" like schowalter's when you've got a pile of indistinguishably crappy players to heap back there. Ozzie did screw up the 1-5 slots at one point in time this year, just see how many times Kotsay's hit 5th. Plus, Kotsay batting 6th is still a bad idea. And the thing with talent - I think this goes back to Ozzie's reluctance to have a real DH who can hit instead of Mark Kotsay.
  6. I can't believe the Red Sox are willing to give Carlos Delgado $3 million.
  7. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 11:24 PM) FWIW, Ozzie's bad lineups have won us a lot of games and Schowalter's good lineup scored 2 runs. Let's just put it this way: we're winning despite his lineups...
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 11:28 PM) AJ got a key hit tonight. I don't know what you guys think you see in his play that is so ominous in terms of his "loafing." Did he not stroke a key hit??? His batting average is low so he's been pouting for months? I didn't see the play but I've seen no mention anywhere in the game stories where AJ did something cocky or loafed so badly on the play he got hurt he was called out for it. You guys see things the baseball writers and broadcasters do not see. He put his hand up in celebratory fashion before even getting to third base. He was pretty much jogging (although with him, there is literally no difference between him running and jogging). By him doing that, he slipped on the base. It was his fault.
  9. While we're on the topic of Ozzie...I honestly wish Ozzie knew how to make a lineup like Buck Showalter. That lineup he made today was pretty damn good. Outside of a couple of iffy things (like hitting Wigginton 3rd instead of 5th), that is how a lineup should be made to maximize run production.
  10. At least this means Castro will play more.
  11. Rios has always been considered a good base stealer because he's always so efficient. I'm guessing that was because he wasn't always free to steal anytime with the Jays.
  12. If I'm not mistaken, Guthrie's not all that bad against us.
  13. These people on the Score are trying to say Jenks should have been in there tonight because Scott, Jones, and Wigginton are a combined 0-10 vs. Jenks. Using a 10 AB sample size as a reason to put in a guy who has a 8 ERA over his career against the Orioles = terrible reasoning.
  14. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 02:39 AM) Second start... 7.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB's, 4 K's. 96 pitches, 63 strikes. He and Garland had a nice little pitchers duel. Hudson lowered his ERA overall to 3.73 Would you look at that... I hope EJax outpitches him on Monday.
  15. And I just have to say that Ozzie needs to limit Rios in trying to steal bases, he's been so inefficient. Pierre is probably the only guy worth running. We ran into so many outs in this game I was kicking chairs around.
  16. Looks like Bobby is in Ozzie's doghouse.
  17. This game was so frustrating for the first 6 innings. And A.J...come on man, SLIDE!
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 08:28 AM) that's fair, all of us have different takes on this team and this season, but also understand for many of us the overwhelming negativity about this season gets boring for a lot of us too. This team played one of their worse offensive games in weeks last night, it happens, until it becomes a trend again I'm not going to freak out about it. I was actually happy that Ozzie saved the pen and didn't try and do anything stupid tonight since they have a long stretch coming up without a day off. A baseball season is a marathon, not a sprint. Until that Minnesota pitching staff, especially the bullpen, starts to show signs of trending towards stabilizing I don't see how they run away with this division, it's going to be a close race to the end and nights like last night are going to happen for both the Sox and Twins. Liriano pitched last night against a rookie, granted one who as 2-0, but still a rookie and the Twins lost. Also, Danks numbers ended up being good last night, but honestly, he got away with a few bad pitches that either the Os just missed or completely whiffed on, so it's not like he had his best stuff last night, but baseball being baseball and the Os being bad, it was good enough to keep the Sox in the game. 3 out of 4 would be great, but I could live with 2-2, a 5-3 road trip with 8 games in 7 days is acceptable to me. When you took 3 of 4 from the Tigers, you better take 3 of 4 from a 36 win Orioles team.
  19. Keith Bogans sucks, I'd rather have McGrady.
  20. MATT LAPORTA! You made up for your stupidity!
  21. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Laporta is a tard That would have been a close play at the plate. Instead he cuts it off when he doesn't even get the runner at first out. So stupid.
  22. Ugh Chris Perez...
  23. Gotta hope the Indians walk the Twins off somehow now. I hate Alexi Casilla so much. It always seems like he comes up with huge hits, even though he's a crappy baseball player.
