QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:24 PM) Wasn't Castro just batting .330 or something? He's now hitting .272.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:26 PM) There was very little chance of winning this game. Ever since Thornton had his elbow issue, he's been a lot more hittable. Now that the front office realizes we're screwed, they should put him on the freaking DL to save him for the future.

We should just start playing like absolute s*** to get a good draft pick for next year.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:15 PM) Has anyone been watching the radar gun? What's thornton been throwing? He threw 96-97 to Raburn.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:10 PM) I don't. Put him in our lineup and I see a big difference. Over a large sample size, it'll end up evening out.

Is Thornton hurt? His velocity's down almost 3 miles an hour.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:07 PM) Location, location, location. Richard's pitching in the most extreme pitcher friendly park in a vastly inferior league. Swisher's in a lineup that sports multiple HOFs, all-stars and MVP candidates. I thought the whole protection argument was pretty much moot.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:03 PM) Happy for Clayton, F Swisher. I'm willing to bet he ends the season around .250 .250 is fine for him. He's going to get on base at a .380 clip anyways.

It's freaking amazing how impatient this team is. When you put Alexei and A.J. back to back, that's two outs in a matter of 4 pitches right there.

Only our hitters would ruin a 3-0 count and pop out.

2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) It looks like the former one took only the 57 starters that had at least 20 starts (ie the relatively competent) while the latter used everyone (414 for his purposes). I would imagine that if you truly and completely suck, the difference in leagues doesn't affect your results a whole lot (just a theory though). The latter also used multi-year statistics, which probably eliminates some of the variation. A 57 person sample size is a bit small.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) On average, it was a full run, or close to 0.9 runs, something like that. After searching a bit more, it seems like it depends a lot on who does the analysis. Here's the NYT quoting 0.9 runs, , here's hardballtimes quoting 0.41 runs. I would agree with HBT more...they're more sabermetrically oriented.

Olney: Sox to start trading away vets
QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 08:58 PM) Hey that sounds familiar.. don't we do that with KC? I instantly thought the same thing. For all I know, Kenny may go and get Alex Gordon to fix our Mark Teahen problem.

Come on Gavin, is it that hard to post a quality start?

I think Rios has finally reached his true potential as a 5 tool player.

Delwyn Young...really? It looks like he supplied all the power there on that home run.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 06:36 PM) That's what I thought, but his curve is more of a slurve than Jenks' was when he first came up. He has two curves, the power curve, which is what Bobby throws, and a 12-6. He also has a slurve too.

AAP: Chris Sale
QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 06:03 PM) Why isn't it just called an M? Haha I don't know...beats me. His delivery reminds me a lot of Shaun Marcum's.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 06:25 PM) I disagree. I think he is a complete Kerry Wood clone. From that hard breaker to his fastball. And I think he'll have arm troubles just like Kerry did as well. His mechanics are slightly better than Wood's. Kerry threw across his body, Strasburg is more over the top. Both do have an inverted W in their delivery though.

This guy's like 2005 Bobby Jenks, but a starter... Just struck out Milledge on two great curveballs.
