QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 06:30 PM) I would have been fine with Fields hitting there...and had no problems taking out BA for Wise based on Brian's lackadaisical offensive game. For whatever reason, this team just doesn't have "it," and won't get "it" unless we could somehow manage to reverse time in order to sign Blake, Hudson and trade for Edwin Jackson and Juan Pierre. Funny, with four former or current Dodgers, surely we would be in first place in the ALCD. Maybe even Andruw Jones, if you want to make it five. Andruw's hitting .246 now. He's kicking BA's ass in terms of OPS, but I'd rather have Brian's defense. Hudson would have been a great fit for this team. But I guess Kenny didn't see the need for another 2B when we had two awesome 2B in Nix and Getz. Psych.
  2. Well yeah. It's easy to look back at it now when he's down low in the basement and labeled as injury-prone.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 06:25 PM) Well geez, they should have just yanked Contreras after the 6th inning and it wouldn't have been 5-2. Or we should put Jayson Nix in defensively for Paul Konerko, etc., in every late-inning defensive situation. After a loss, it's VERY easy to second guess every single move. We are just an average team and always will be this season...let's just get used to it, as it will make the next 90 games easier to deal with. They should have gotten Jose out of there because I was just glad he got out of the 6th since it seemed he had a back problem and he wasn't finishing his forkballs in that inning. He was lucky he missed outside and high. I honestly think Ozzie should have took him out. He didn't look all that good that inning and I was glad he got out of it by getting Lee to pop it up. Honestly, the Wise thought came up later in my head (after Dye stopped at 3rd), so I don't think I can blame Ozzie. But then again, he's the one who makes the f***ing lineups and I'm just a fan. He's supposed to have a better baseball mind than I am. But yet, I'm pretty sure a lot of managers would have ran for Dye in that situation.
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) Since the game that ended the White Sox season and provided the fire for the Cubs turnaround, the Sox are 4-2 and the Cubs are 3-4 Make that 4-3 and 4-4 now.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 06:21 PM) But why did it have to be a catcher in that position? You put Wise up there, and they pull Marmol (no way they let him walk in tying run). Then, you can put Nix into the game and you save AJP if needed for their closer. Kinda of like a double switch in that regard. I guess Ozzie was thinking way too far ahead.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 05:44 PM) Because if we took Konerko/Thome/Dye out of every single game in the late innings for pinch-runners, we'd have absolutely ZERO chance of scoring in a game like yesterday's in extra innings. Second, normally you would make that move for the winning or go ahead run, but it's not so obvious there. Well would you rather lose or tie and then have a chance to win it in extras? I don't care if there's no JD. We won two games with Wise in right field at Cincy. It's not like it's the end of the world. Plus, if Wise scores, they would most likely pitch to Konerko.
  7. QUOTE (sayitaintso @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) Why does AJ always feel the need to swing at the first pitch with bases loaded and 1 out? You would think someone would tell him to take a pitch. Just go take the next 2 games from em boys. I don't know. But why didn't Ozzie pinch run Wise for Dye in the 8th? Wise scores on Thome's ball easily. It took Freel a year to get there and Dye still didn't score.
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) What was the count on Pods there? 2-2. He shouldn't have swung the pitch before. That ball was well outside. I would have loved to see Alexei against Gregg. Alexei can definitely deal a big blow to his 91 MPH straight fastball.
  9. That wasn't even close to being called a strike. And God damn it A.J. I was telling myself that this A.J. and Marshall matchup is really bad and that if A.J. was to succeed, he has to be patient. A.J. likes to swing at everything and DPs are almost his forte against a sinker-balling lefty. What do you know? First pitch, double play. Man this game was more than winnable.
  10. Murph is getting old anyhow. He's probably glad he doesn't have to work everyday.
  11. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) So, Chad Billingsley hadn't given up more than 3 ER in a start all year. Gave up 5. Randy Wells hasn't given up more than 2 ER in a start this year... I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...YOU! WHITE! SOX! Didn't Wells give up 4-5 to the Twins?
  12. He's starting to remind me of Alfonso Soriano in terms of his laziness and brain cramps.
  13. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 06:03 PM) Yeah that 3.30 era, 1.03 whip (2nd in NL), 115 K's (1st in NL) in 92.1 ip (11th in the NL) sucks. Sox fans expectations of Javy were always ridiculous because a fan favorite was traded for him. (Who is currently batting .204) Also I believe part of the reason why CQ was available was Young took a spot in the OF for AZ. That's cause he's pitching in the NL. My basis for saying he looked crappy was that he got hit pretty hard by the Cubs that first inning. Sooner or later, he's gonna revert back to his old self. If you remember, he was really good before June last season.
  14. QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 05:53 PM) Let's stop talking about the fantasy bulls***, and get back to how awesome Beckham is in reality But when fantasy players start picking up rookie players not even a month into his playing career, that's speaking volumes.
  15. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 05:35 PM) Same thing they said about Bonds. Funny how this is playing out, ha. Barry Bonds was one of the best players in baseball before he went on the juice... His stats as a hitter were comparable to Griffey, if not better.
  16. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) I fully knew it was an uneven trade going into it, I just wanted Bacon and Hunter off my team. I could careless about his above average first half, Torii is playing way over his head. My only other 3B was Andy LaRoche OF depth... Braun Beltran Sizemore (DL) Werth let's just say I had a surplus of outfielders to basically give away. This is in a 12 team head to head as well, where a lot of emphasis on drafting ACE pitchers in the first couple rounds for some teams...justifying on how I oucld have such an outfield in a 12 team league. My best starter is Verlander, but I had to take those big 3 up there with my first 3 picks as it could have been hte most lethal fantasy outfield ever created. Could have.... In one of my 10 team leagues I have an outfield of... Ryan Braun Manny Ramirez Ryan Ludwick Nelson Cruz Curtis Granderson Shane Victorino Originally drafted Braun and Ludwick. But since this league is public and extremely stupid, I picked up Cruz, Granderson, and Manny off of waivers or free agency. I also traded Broxton for Victorino.
  17. Javy still looks crappy.
  18. QUOTE (onedude @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 05:16 PM) Killed in high school, in JuCo, in the Minors, and now in the Majors. He's always been powerful wherever he's went. Has always had a High average wherever he's went. I'm giving him the benefit. He's a great hitter in general. If he did use steroids, he would still be one of the game's best players without them.
  19. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) don't underestimate the recovery factor for in PEDs. Players who use them probably feel alot better and sharper in that 4th AB on the 7th game in 7 days Steroids help recovery. But there hasn't been a medical or scientific claim that HGH does.
  20. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 02:06 PM) also fwiw, Beckham outscored Hunter by 8 last week. You could have gotten a much better 3B than Beckham with a guy like Hunter.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 01:35 PM) I like how you pointed out that it isn't proven right after I pointed out that proving it is legally impossible right now. They could always go to a far-off third world country and conduct research. That's legal right?
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 01:29 PM) The Marlins will not trade Josh Johnson any time soon. He made his debut just a few years back so he's under their control for a few more years. They are scheduled to move into a new stadium in 2012 which they feel will help attendance and thus drive revenue. Unless they get absolutely blown away with a deal he won't be going anywhere. The Marlins arent the Marlins of 1998 anymore. They trade players away to get better now or in the next 1-2 years. the days of them being everyone elses farm team are over. Yeah, but the arbitration money might become too much for the Marlins to handle. If it gets taken to court and Johnson is really good, he might eventually get $9-10 million in an arbitration case.
  23. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 01:19 PM) Exact same things they said about A-Rod. Also, some steroids (specifically HGH) have been shown to improve vision. None of that has been medically studied. It's based on user's experience. There's no true medical and scientific proof that it improves vision.
  24. I would not put that kind of money on a guy who has had one full healthy season and that being his rookie season. This would be like the Yankees signing Carl Pavano after he had one good season. Plus he had TJS, which is a definite bad sign for a guy who throws hard and also features a hard slider (Francisco Liriano anyone?)
  25. Even if Pujols does take roids, the effects on him are questionable. Steroids do not give him a better batting eye. Steroids do not give him better place discipline. Steroids do not make his swing perfect and virtually hole-less Medically speaking, steroids do not improve eye-sight and they do not give a player faster reflexes. All it can do is give the player more muscle mass in the upper and lower body which can lead to farther hit baseballs and pitchers with more stamina (now do you wonder how Roger Clemens was still able to pump it up there in the mid 90s in his 40s?). And through past scientific experiments, it's not even a huge difference, but may be the difference between a double off the wall and a home run. This steroids thing is hyped up to be the thing where a guy who is on it might be 5 times better than the player who isn't on them and that's definitely not true. The true effects of steroids are still questionable. As there are guys who have been exponentially better after taking them (Brett Boone) and also many more who have failed in attempt to taking them (see long list of guys who sucked that were on PEDs, like Armando Rios or dare I say Timo Perez). Here's a nicely researched article on this stuff. http://steroids-and-baseball.com/
