Sox acquire Mark Teahen, $$$ for Getz/Fields
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) To me, if this is true, I don't think losing Getz creates that big of a hole. Besides all of the ideas mentioned of sliding players over by using Teahen in the IF or keeping him in RF, there's already a solution whether or not the Sox can sign someone else. If Teahen goes to the IF, you can have a Pods-Rios-CQ OF. Not the best defensively, but not bad (i know the Sox haven't resigned Pods, but personally, I don't think he's going to get a better deal from any other team than the Sox. If Teahen goes to the OF, you have a Kong-Nix-Ramirez-Beckham IF. Not a major change and Nix provides more pop than Getz did. Again, if true, the flexibility the Sox had last year would pay off. Nix still can't hit right handers, that's the problem. Had Nix hit .230 against both right handers and left handers, he'd be an okay everyday player, given the fact that he hits for a lot of power to make up for his s***ty average and he also walks his fair share. But he absolutely sucks against right handers and it just so happens that most of the league throws with their right arm.

Sox acquire Mark Teahen, $$$ for Getz/Fields
I don't know if I want this to happen...at all. Fields would have been enough. Teahen hit like crap down the stretch this past season. Plus, Getz has that special ability to piss you off since he's got that Twins mentality to him.

Speculation: Johnny Damon to White Sox?
QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) They all count the same though. Seems funny to me when proponents of advanced metrics revert to the "eye test" when their data fails to back up their opinion. And this is nothing personal towards you, just in general. That's because metrics aren't perfect. Nobody really claims that they are the truth all the time. I will say that they are true most of the time, but there are definitely exceptions. Pods might be one of them. Here or there, you might see a guy you don't think of as good end up having really good defensive numbers. Sabermetrics are more useful when evaluating players of another team. Mostly because you don't see those players very often. When you see the same guy 150 times a year, you get to know him a lot better than what the stats can tell you. Of course, your eyes can still lie and you can have some weird man crush towards some certain player that can make you extremely biased. One of the most important parts of Sabermetrics is trying to remove the subjectivity of player evaluation. Just because Carlos Gomez always kicks our ass doesn't make him a good player. Just because Hawk loves Gomez doesn't make him Ricky Henderson.

AL Central team interested in Manny?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) For my money, the Twins are last, and the Royals are a step above. Let me put it this way, who was the last big named player the Twins have brought in? OMG IT'S SHANNON STEWART. DROOOOOLLLLL

Speculation: Johnny Damon to White Sox?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) That Pods is cheaper and about the same age and I don't want Damon. Cheaper and worse on offense. With our team possibly lacking a lot of power, especially left handed power for the upcoming year, I don't see why you wouldn't want Damon if he came at a good price (which he probably won't, but hey, who knows?).

Speculation: Johnny Damon to White Sox?
QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) Didn't Pods actually have a decent year defensively this year by most metrics? Pods is actually decent overall in most metrics. He was actually one of the top LFs back in 05 according to the Fielding Bible. He was a barely below average fielder last year, including center field, which I found quite surprising. But then again, when you watch a guy for 150 games and get to know his tendencies, that's actually more accurate than what metrics do tell you. Metrics state whether or not the player made the out or not, it doesn't tell you how he made the out or how easy or difficult it was for him. For Pods, every out is difficult.

Speculation: Johnny Damon to White Sox?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) This probably would have been a better way to word it, but yes I'd rather have Pods. Damon can't throw the baseball. Yeah he's a grinder who has had some great at bats in the WS. We need to get more creative. No thanks to Johnny. Pods can't throw either. What's your point?

Speculation: Johnny Damon to White Sox?
A look at Damon's numbers this year basically says that New Yankee Stadium helped him get more home runs and doubles... His LD% went down by 6%, resulting in a slightly lower average, his FB% went up by nearly 8% and he had a career high in HR/FB with a 12.6%. It was clear that he realized he only needs to hit some pop ups deep enough to right to get them out. Take him out to the Cell and you won't see the .490 SLG% that he put up this year. But, anyway you put it, he's an upgrade over Pods. Although I don't know if he's going to be worth it for the money we're going to have to dish out for him. Oh yeah, he does suck on defense. In fact, UZR says he sucks a lot more than Pods. He's getting near Jermaine Dye bad.

Zune HD vs Ipod Touch
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 23, 2009 -> 09:11 AM) Jailbreaking is very dangerous. If you screw it up, or something goes wrong, you have a completely dead iPod and Apple wont fix it for you. Jailbreaking is one of the safest mods out there. There is no such thing as bricking an iPhone or iPod touch, thanks to DFU mode.

Zune HD vs Ipod Touch
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 01:28 PM) Pic Zune HD Zune HD looks really sweet, apparently the UI is >>>>>> than ipod touch. I also like the OLED screen, alot better for viewing videos. The price is also quite nice (for the 16gb). The only problem is that right now its more geared towards being an mp3 player than an all in one device that I am looking for. The internet browser apparently is nowhere near as good as the touch's and the apps dont compare. Can anybody give a brief overview of what jailbreaking is and the advantage of it? Advantages of jailbreaking. 1. 3rd party apps. 2. It allows piracy (of App Store applications) if you like to go that way. 3. Themes and cool things Apple doesn't let you do. 4. Emulation (SNES, NES, Genesis, GBA, etc). 5. Anything you can possibly think of. Disadvantages of jailbreaking. 1. Takes up a bit more memory, decreasing the overall performance of your iDevice, it depends on what you run. Themes take up nearly 11 MB of your RAM (at least that's what Winterboard takes up). 2. If you're not good with technology, it's not the best thing for you. If you want the full deal out of it, you need to really know how to tinker with your iDevice. If you're strictly looking for a music player with a nicer screen and all, buy the Zune HD, it looks really nice and it's got an OLED screen. But if you're expecting Microsoft to build an App Store with 85,000 apps, you might as well think about 5-10 years in the future for that. As of right now, if you're looking for your device to do be a "smart" device that plays games and is able to use cool applications, the iPod touch is definitely the way to go.

Zune HD vs Ipod Touch
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Oct 22, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) What does jailbreak mean? I have a touch and the only thing I don't like about it is I can't get online everywhere like you can with the iphone. I've never seen a Zune in person. It means you free the iPod or iPhone from software restrictions put on by Apple.

Spam this idiot
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Oct 20, 2009 -> 12:17 PM) Here's another one "Danks is not that much more valuable than Lopez. Sorry, he’s just not." Moron. What kind of Koolaid is this idiot drinking? Jose Lopez is a mediocre player. He had a decent year this past season because Wakamatsu batted him third, a horrible spot for a guy with an OPS near .770 and a wOBA of only .325. So he's a below average hitter and his UZR says he's a barely above average fielder. In the end, he's average and not as valuable as Danks, who posted a 2.9 WAR last year while Lopez posted a 2.6. Now, I must say, I really like Mark Lowe and I would like the prospect of getting him to be our setup man next year. However, I would definitely not do it at the expense of Danks. This trade would make a lot more sense if we handed them Jenks (for us at least).

Brad Hawpe?
QUOTE (joeynach @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 01:56 AM) No thanks on Hawpe for 7.5 id rather make a run at Nick Jonhson. If anyone from the rockies I think we need id make a run at Rafael Betancourt, hes a FA unless the rockies pick up a 5.4M option, probably wont happen. He could probably be signed for 2 years 5 mil. I do not want the human rain delay on this team. Ed Farmer might quit if we sign Betancourt.

White Sox Payroll Resource
So right now, we're at 71 million without arbitration for Danks, Quentin, Jenks, and Carrasco. Hmmm. Jenks might as well be on his way out if our payroll is only going to be around $90 million for the year.

Brad Hawpe?
Hawpe would only make sense as a DH. He's actually one of those guys that is not a product of Coors Field. His home and away splits are strikingly similar.
