AL Cy Young
QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 06:15 PM) Verlander most 1st place votes, finished 2nd. Porcello won. Britton's votes killed Verlander. Time to eliminate relievers from Cy consideration. Sale finished 5th. Scherzer won the NL easily. That shouldn't happen...

President-Elect Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 14, 2016 -> 09:12 PM) God help the US if they approve Giuliani as Secretary of State... https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/black-ve...-160950540.html Black veteran refused free meal during Veteran's Day promotion at Chili's by PT TRUMP supporter My Chinese wife has page after page on her social media of episodes in the US already with episodes like eggs being thrown at Chinese/Asians, go home, go back to China, CHINK. The Chinese media is having a field day pointing out all of these episodes of "hate" against Chinese in the US (not only students, but American Born Chinese Descent/ABCD) as well as giving full coverage to all the anti-Trump protests. This is the field day the Chinese and North Korean governments were looking for. "Look at who those stupid Americans elected. Democracy is to blame!"

Starting out with 5 at the back was ridiculous. Once they made the switch to the 442, the game went a lot better. Still, absolutely awful set piece defending at the end of the game.

2016 Presidential Election Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 04:05 PM) Many in Clinton's campaign viewed these voters as Trump's base, people so committed to the Republican nominee that no amount of visits or messaging could sway them. Clinton made no visits to Wisconsin as the Democratic nominee, and only pushed a late charge in Michigan once internal polling showed the race tightening. Bill Clinton, advisers said, pushed the campaign early on to focus on these voters, many of whom helped elected him twice to the White House. The former president, a Clinton aide said, would regularly call Robby Mook to talk about strategy and offer advice. But aides said the Clinton campaign's top strategists largely ignored the former president, instead focusing on consolidating the base of voters that helped elect President Barack Obama to the White House. CNN.com always with the best political instincts in that family...it's hard to see how diminished he seemed in recent years, and now there will be more lifetime bitterness over the FBI letter and the Clintons feeling Obama could have reigned in Comey had he chosen to do so Comey certainly did not help, but they should have seen this coming. The pollsters and experts got it wrong. Hell almost all of America got it wrong. Her staff failed her by thinking she was the second coming of Obama. The fact they counted on the minority vote yet didn't win a single southern state is a huge failure. But losing historically Democratic strong holds like Wisconsin and Michigan is an absolute embarrassment. Especially when Bill actually won those states twice.

2016 Republican Thread
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) If the electors don't pick Trump, that would be an even bigger disaster than Trump being President. Also, I would like to buy life insurance on those electors. Trump and Pence would literally have to commit treason or murder before December for the electors to flip.

The Democratic Bench
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) If Cuban ran as a democrat I think he could waltz in if the right circumstances came about. He believes in less government and free markets though so not sure the left would have him. This isn't young Cuban. The guy is far more composed than the young Mavericks owner and now acts more like an intellectual than a sports fan. Cuban is far more qualified than a witty talk show host. I am not sure if you're serious here. I just don't believe Cuban will be a serious enough of a candidate for the democrats. I think he has a better shot to run as an extremely moderate republican. If the last 3 elections have shown anything, it's that the Democrats have a better shot when their agenda is more progressive socially and economically (or at least the perception of being more progressive in the case of Obama).

2016 Presidential Election Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 02:56 PM) It's from the NYT. They're projecting. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/11/opinion/...e-win.html?_r=0 I was just talking with my friend about how all this talk of the electoral college needing to change needed to stop and that we need to think long and hard and not overreact to the results of the election. But damn, a 2 million vote difference in popular vote while Clinton might lose the election 310-228 in electoral votes just does not seem right at all. I thought Gore had it bad, but wow.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) How many outstanding votes are still out there? Last I checked, Clinton is winning by 400,000 popular votes. I don't think that's 1.7% more than Trump.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Nov 11, 2016 -> 11:44 AM) Mark Cuban. No, I'm not joking. - Not a politician, not in the establishment, even fewer glaring political ties than Trump - Already has name recognition - Personable - "Tells it like it is", can be fiery and rile up a crowd - Came from a working class family to become rich, The American Dream - Significantly smarter than Trump, can beat him in debates - Liberal enough -particularly socially- not to turn off Democratic base - Doesn't have any horrible baggage/scandals that I know of - White male (let's be honest, it helps) Might as well put in Jon Stewart too if we're gonna include Cuban.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 06:53 PM) Who is the next woman or man up for the party? The leadership of the party is either too old or Obama. I wonder if there's a possibility he gets back into politics after a while. Probably not. I imagine the names you'll hear the most are Booker and possibly O'Malley. Ugh not O'Malley. He seems like a nice guy and all, but ALL he talked about during the primaries is what he did as governor of Maryland. He's a boring candidate.

2016 Presidential Election Thread
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 03:32 PM) Thankfully we have the regressive left on social media to remind us that everyone is racist. There's no hiding from them. That's absolutely a reaction to the type of posts I just mentioned post election in 2008. While I sometimes don't like just how sensitive the liberal media is and how they like to exaggerate things out of proportion, the far right's reaction to Obama in 2008 was despicable.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 03:22 PM) Why would they be? It's not like we didn't have this group of raging racists constantly posting Obama's a socialist athiest muslim on social media for 8 years or anything... They'd never get away with demonstrating against that in real life cause there's consequences to that. They're racist deep down but would never let everyone know that. Only the hardcore white nationalists would even dare.

2016 Presidential Election Thread
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 10, 2016 -> 03:21 PM) It's not all that simple. The democrats candidate ran on Trump being a racist. so when something racist happened, the media made it a big story. So the lowest common denominator would be representative of half the country according to simpletons. I have yet to see CNN report on the group black kids beating up a middle aged white man because he voted for Trump Trump did that to himself when he said Mexicans were rapists and criminals when he first decided to run for the Republican nomination. The Clinton camp didn't make him say that. He painted himself as a racist and the Democrats used that to attack him, which honestly, is just politics.

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 11:20 AM) Every Democrat needs to stop with the "easy" stuff. I will always believe part of the reason Trump did so well is because he was the "underdog" which gave this false illusion that he somehow is fighting for the little guy. Right now the best thing any liberal can do, is wait and see. A big part of the reason this country cant do s*** anymore is because everyone prejudges. Obama is the worst Ill never agree with anything he does. Trump is the worst. Bush is the worst. Clinton is the worst. Hillary sure as hell wasn't going to get re-elected in 4 years against any half-way decent opponent. That's what I meant by easy. The silver lining for Democrats in all of this is that they get to run a real candidate in 4 years. Not just someone who thought it was their turn.
