Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 11:15 AM) Wow, people overvalue prospects. I don't like that that article doesn't take into account a very important economic concept while using the surplus value concept. This guy puts ZERO discount for risk on the Astros prospects. There should be a significant discount for risk on any prospect, at least 30%. To be fair, KATOH does take risk into account. But even then, I feel like it's somewhat optimistic. The hit rate on prospects isn't that high. Surplus value should also be looked at differently when your team is trying to compete the next two seasons and the guy you're trading for fills a huge hole on the team.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) That article assumes that each of Musgrove/Martes and Tucker will be mlb contributors to a certain degree. Three 2 WAR players do not equal the value of one 6 WAR player, as 6 WAR players are vastly harder to find. That package really underwhelms me compared to the Sale and Eaton returns. If we don't get superior value we should hold out for better I hate using surplus value to evaluate prospects and just assuming they turn out to be competent. Especially when you are trading for an established player like Quintana who is more likely than not to give you 15+ WAR over the next 4 seasons. The reason why teams have given up multiple blue chip prospects for players like Quintana before is because prospects are a gamble. Maybe 1 in 3 good prospects turns into a good player. Add in the fact that the Astros' window is the next 2 years and Quintana's surplus value is exponentially higher than Tucker + Martes.

President-Elect Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) Greg, They didnt "hack our election". What they did was hack personal email accounts and then released certain emails to the public. So the real blame is on every American who didnt listen, who chose to care more about "lock her up" than the future of our country. The Russian's did what they had to do to try and beat the US. It was our job as American's to make sure that they didnt succeed. Its quite possible that the Russian's hacked Republican's, maybe even Trump. My guess is that if they have this information, they are going to use it for blackmail purposes. Perhaps as a way to get the US to agree to allow Russia to keep Crimea. Who knows, but you should be concerned. You opened the gates so that the barbarians could get in the castle, but its still not to late. All you have to do is make sure that congress investigates this with the same vigor as things like "Monica Lewinsky" and "deleted emails." You have to hope that there will be some Republican's who actually care about the people who served this country and died in service of the United States. Because anything less is a disgrace to them. They may as well have just sat home if you were going to let a foreign entity run this country. I made a plea months ago not to let this happen, I specifically addressed you. But in the end, you made a personal choice. So it wasnt China, it wasnt Russia, it was people like you. Sorry to be harsh, but sometimes people need a wake up call. The effects of Russian propaganda on Republicans

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) Former USC quarterbacks look serviceable for periods of time, but are never the permanent answer. Carson Palmer?

Fangraphs not optimistic on Anderson's bat
Advanced metrics guys will never like players like Anderson who can't walk. The fact his plate discipline hasn't really developed at all does not help.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) LOL @ the guys on MLBN saying that this means guys like Frazier, Robertson and Avisail will be sold off Will someone please take Avisail from us?

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) My sentiments exactly. Sale trade was a 7/10 to me, this is a 10/10. With how much Kopech's stock has risen in just the past few months, I think the Sale trade's probably a 8/10. Had we gotten Devers instead of Basabe, I'd rate it a easy 9.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:38 PM) I can see the Astros and Rox being in play for Quintana or a mega Quintana and Abreu package both have the farms and needs. Would love Rodgers from the Rockies. But I think the ultimate prize is Bregman. I wonder if Abreu and Quintana could get that done. I honestly don't know if the Astros can get Quintana if they don't give up Bregman. Tucker and Martes are good prospects, but with what we just got for Eaton, that seems like a lowball offer. I think the compromise is that we package Frazier/Abreu in there to sweeten the pot. They need a bat at a corner position. I would love to see us get Bregman + Tucker as the main pieces in a Quintana + Abreu/Frazier trade.

Frazier Trade Discussion
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:25 PM) Twins message board guy who is apparently well-respected and has a source says Dozier for De Leon/Bellinger is close Dozier for two top 50 prospects is pretty insane considering how bad he was just a year ago.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:25 PM) Bob Nightengale@BNightengale 5:25 PM Several scouts and executives say they actually thought the #WhiteSox did better in the Adam Eaton trade than the Chris Sale trade. The potential surplus we got out of Eaton is probably just as high.
-
Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
We got Quintana for free and Eaton for Hector Santiago. And they're probably going to net us 5 top 50 prospects. That's insane...

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:06 PM) Just to be a party pooper(not really) but the media is of course going to love this deal for the Sox. Eaton just isn't a big name and since he doesn't put up huge offensive numbers there are going to be a ton of people that don't love the deal, especially when a guy like Giolito who has been a big name prospect on is on the move for the Nats. I'm sure that's why lots of Nats fans are pissed. They don't think all-star when the name Adam Eaton pops up.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:27 PM) Top Ten farm system. Almost has to be. I don't think many systems can boast about having the best pitching and position player prospects in baseball. Just based off that alone, we're top 10, if not top 5. We lack depth in position player prospects, but I think Q can help with that.
-
Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:15 PM) Sox are doing well. The system just moved into the top 10, let's see if we can move it into the top 3 with a Q trade. 1. Moncada 65 2. Giolito 65 3. Kopech 55/60 4. Lopez 55 5. Fulmer 50 6. Collins 50 7. Adams 50 8. Burdi 50 9. Dunning 50 10. Basabe 50 We got 10 50 grade+ prospects now. We should have around 15 when this is all said and done. We're gonna have the best system in the game.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) Pitching is the most volatile and in-demand need in the game, whether starters or relievers. Andcwe have the minor league development staff along with Cooper that theoretically excel in that area. One only needs to go back through 1998-2001 BA prospect lists to see how many busted from our #1 system in baseball. Once Sale was gone, it was natural for Eaton to go, and we already knew their system intimately. We can turn Eaton (who was Santiago...a low low draft pick) and a waiver claim in Q into one of the Top 3-5 farm systems in baseball. Logical enough. Just need to hit on at least 60% of the Top Ten names. It's crazy how much value we got back from Hector Santiago.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) Q is the only one of any value. That's it. Robertson, Jones, and Frazier can bring something back too. Not anything top 50, but something.
-
Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:09 PM) It doesn't help solve the problem we have now, at all. Our position players have been awful. As of now, we have set ourselves up to have the exact same problem we have now, but only if all goes right. If it doesn't, we won't have offensive or pitching. We have plenty of trade chips left to get position players.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:08 PM) The Nationals fans hated trading Lopez. Like alot. Glad we got him. I would have been OK with just Giolito honestly, but getting him is putting this deal over the top. Eaton is a 4 win player, but we sold him like he was at least a 5 win player. You take that any day.
-
Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
How are you guys disappointed that we got the #4 and #38 prospects for Adam Eaton? We sold about as high as possible on him.
-
Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
Giolito, Rodon, Fulmer, Kopech... HOLY s***
-
Soler to KC for Wade Davis
I wonder if Wade Davis is even healthy. His peripherals looked good after he came back off the DL, but he got hit relatively hard.
-
Sox/Rockies talking Abreu or Frazier
I think we should hold off on trading Abreu. He ended last season hot, maybe he can up his stock with a nice first half in 2017.

Sox see Moncada as 2b
Moncada has too much speed and athleticism to play third IMO.
