  1. Anyone have a link to the full $$$ details of the trade? We split the rest of his salary for this year, and the Reds pay the buyout correct?
  2. i say we sign bonds too, what the hell. As it stands now, our lineup will have 1800+ career Homeruns.....that has to be an mlb record. thome-526 griff- 608 bonds- 762 dye- 288 crede- 125 ocab - 103 swish - 95 2507 career homeruns for the lineup.
  3. you upgrade 1B and possibly downgrade CF Griff is slower than me, but I imagine he can judge a ball better than Swisher Sweet. Can't be any worse than macoviack
  4. i don't know if anyone's mentioned it....but the combined career HR totals for this lineup has to be the highest in MLB history, no?
  5. QUOTE (scotty22hotty @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:34 AM) Why rebuild the team now???? We're in 1st place... a 47 year old Ken Griffey is not rebuilding, trading all your stars for a couple dozen prospects is rebuilding.
  6. QUOTE (JFields27 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:30 AM) and SS Is green the sarcasm font? He played 1B for 1 game in '05. Couldn't be any worse than PK and I'd rather see Griff in RF than CF edit- ah, touche. He did play SS, but 1B is a hell of alot easier.
  7. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:27 AM) JD has not played first base in his life, why should we expect him to move there? Why would he want to learn a new position in a pennant race? With Griffey in CF, Swish at 1b and Dye at RF we are much better defensively than with Dye at 1st, Swish in CF and Griffey in RF? With Dye at first, you have two guys at positions they would be bad at instead of only one with leaving Dye at RF. Dye has played 1B
  8. so with Masset gone, does this mean KW is confident he will land Street? Thatd be a pretty bad ass day for the sox
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 01:02 AM) I would trade OC for Street and Crosby. I know the A's have little use for OC but Beane values 2 draft picks more than any other GM in baseball. Crosby hasn't lived up to his MVP hype of a few years ago and has had a hell of a time staying healthy. Still he has nice ability. Again i shall state..... The sox are not offering OC to the A's nor are the A's interested. Bolney saide "The Sox and A's are talking about Street.......and the Sox are offering OC out there, blah blah, the Dogers may be interested" THE A's DO NOT WANT OCAB
  10. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:45 PM) Why in the universe would Oakland want two months of Cabrera, while giving up their 24 year old closer, when they have absolutely zero chance at the playoffs this year? They wouldn't. Less than a non-story. read 2 posts above yours
  11. QUOTE (JFields27 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) Buster Olney just said the Sox offered Orlando Cabrera to the A's for Street. I dont know who else has posted that but interesting. For the Manny trade, the Pirates got raped, unless that prospect they got from the Red Sox is SS Jed Lowrie, and I dont know who they would get from the Marlins. No, he said "the A's and Sox are talking about Street.......and the Sox have offered OC out there blah blah Dogers interested"
  12. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 12:55 AM) Couldn't have anything to do with the pitching. nope, nothing. The pitching has been superb all season.
  13. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 08:54 PM) Steroids didn't exist in baseball in the 1970's and 1980's? Well, I'd like you to prove that one. guys didn't hit 72 homers and win more cy youngs as they got older.
  14. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 06:30 PM) Well, Mark McGwire was a stud before juicing. So, I don't see your point that he was great before, and could not have done steroids because of that. And I've heard plenty of stories of people doing steroids in high school with their parents' knowledge. Again, that means nothing to me. Were their parents lives dedicated to baseball in an era before steroids?
  15. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) I'm not sure when he would've started juicing, even though high school isn't nearly out of the question. I'm just saying it seems like he's off of something since he's been on the White Sox. Coming to a hitter's paradise, from a pitcher's park where he put up great power numbers, and now seemingly having very little power is strange. Also, considering Oakland has had a lot of ties to steroids, and the White Sox have had somewhat of the opposite reputation, and he definitely looks like an ex-juicer to me. As it's already been said in this thread, the only hard hits he seems to have are his homers. The guy seems to have lost some power somewhere along the road from the coast to the Midwest. There have been several stat comparisons that show his "line drive" or whatever % is a career high. Meaning he is hitting it hard...right at people. And for him to be juicing, he would have had to in HS since he's been a stud since then. Also (outside of Bonds) do you think his All-Star dad would have let it get by him that he was juicing?
  16. He is streaky, and I will gladly take him "streaking" in August/September when they hopefully move him to a more comfortable 1st base. Yes he is the "funny" guy, which gets him love. But he is also: young, cheap, and signed for a few years with a decent upside/ceiling.
  17. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 11:05 AM) The only problem with the slurping is the fact that we havent seen the results. When Ozzie was hired, Kenny talked about emulating the twins baseball. And for me, that meant more about our minor league preparation. The ability to instruct our kids from Rookie ball up to play the game the right way. Hard nosed, run fast, hit to all fields, play good defense. The Twins and the As have been pretty good at teaching their kids the single message. Our minor leagues for years hasn't had a single mission. Hopefully Buddy Bell imparts that on our organization. I don't want to see kids called up, who dont know how to bunt. Can't field, don't know how to run the bases, or look lost on where to throw a ball when a play happens. This is all instruction that should of happened a while ago. If we took the time to instruct our kids like the twins do, we wouldnt hear crap about our system. The talent is there, I think however something is missing from the instruction standpoint. As I have seen comments on this board about how hard it is to change a player, but oddly the Twins year after year plug in the same type of kids and they hit the ground running. And I don't think they have the most talented minors. They just instruct well. And we should learn from that. But every year getting beat the same way, and then slurping it without any adjustments is tiring. Learn from your mistakes, and get better. I would love to see some of our hitters become tough outs tonight, concentrate on the play, run hard and get a win. Thats how you win in Minny. They also dump their stars every couple years and stockpile Carlos Gomezes.
  18. QUOTE (FranktheTank35 @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 08:25 PM) Good job Josh. Showing why we made you 'untouchable'.... Paulie needs to be benched. Period. No more chances. uhhhh, is josh the umps name? Cause he was out about 3 times before he hit the bag
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 11:57 AM) Man I don't get it. If the Sox moved Paulie and didn't have Thome this would be my #1 target. The guy is an absolute offensive STUD. Moved paulie? To who? This will never, ever ever ever ever happen. Thome is not going to play 1st, PK ain't going anywhere, Manny is a tool and would be Albert Belle ver 2.0.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 07:10 PM) If the AL keeps trading stars to the NL like CC and Manny, won't the NL eventually get good again? not if they don't have a DH and the stars just sign back with AL teams
  21. Anyone know the status on Carlos "Sox Killer" Gomez? I never want to win due to injury, but I'll take him being out for 15 days.
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 01:23 PM) el dookie? Blasphemy. Get rid of that sig. What kind of fan are you? have you not been here for a few months or something?
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 01:19 PM) No way. You know how blindly loyal Ozzie sometimes is to his vets. No way in hell he'd leave Javy out of the playoff rotation. kinda like how el dookie was in the playoff rotation
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2008 -> 12:54 PM) When your main offensive weapon is a walk and you have 6 career SB, its really not so impressive. except that when your team gets 50% of its runs through the HR, you kinda want people on base.
  25. from friends who are watching the game?
