QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 08:25 PM) Heat on the verge of their 16th loss. Thunder at 15, Bulls at 14. Don't forget the Spurs, they are at 15 losses as well... If the Bulls beat Miami tomorrow night, they very well could at the very least almost wrap up the 1 seed in the East. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 10, 2012 -> 05:26 PM) At least Rush at times has a basis for his opinions and has somewhat of an educational background (though not much). Ozzie is like a homeless man rambling at times. Nah, Rush is an idiot. I know what Ozzie said wasn't the smartest thing to say in Miami, but if he likes Castro or Chavez or the tele tubbies, it's his right to like anyone or anything. Besides, isn't Fidel dead already? Much to do about nothing, IMO.

Why can't these young athletes enjoy life a little before settling down? Rose gf is a future multi millionaire cougar. -
QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Apr 9, 2012 -> 08:43 PM) Ozzie is a big mouth and an idiot for not thinking about the possible repercussions of his statement in Miami, but....deep breath...I agree with what he said and think the reactions are pretty over the top. Yes, Castro has been an oppressive dictator for some time but we helped set the tone for him to come to power. A LOT of the anti-Castro vitriol out of Miami is spewed by bitter dissidents who were robbing Cuba blind for years with the help of an equally oppressive thief of a dictator, Fulgencio Bautista. The Cuban lobby act out of Miami is beyond old. Many of these same folks calling for Guillen's head are the same ones who wanted Elian Gonzalez to remain separated from his father. They were also instrumental in helping Jeb steal the 2000 election for Dubyah. In some ways they are no more in favor of a free democratic society than Castro. They spent 60 years trying to assassinate Castro and strengthened his anti-American resolve in the process. He dodged every bullet along the way and continued to thumb his nose at us across 90 short miles of water. I do not agree with Castro's politics or human rights record, but Ozzie is not out of line to say that his survival in such adversity is worthy of some level of respect. With all of that said, I still wonder how the hell Ozzie could say anything positive about Castro while working for a major Miami sports franchise. Just plain dumb! Great post. Bautista was just as bad as Castro on human rights violations, only difference is that he was "our friend".

Who should Romney choose as VP candidate?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 6, 2012 -> 11:45 AM) Rubio is scary, as a DEM, for the future. He'll be hard to stop, if he survives the vetting process, and he will easily turn the 25/75 disadvantage to 75/25 the other way around in terms of driving the Hispanic vote. As far as debaters in my lifetime, that I've seen personally: 1) Mario Cuomo 2) Bill Clinton 3) Jesse Jackson 4) Barack Obama Picking Santorum is insane. Hilary Clinton has the same exact demographic in terms of her appeal, and his presence on the ticket will scare almost every woman in America out to vote. Obama's ego is too big, and so is Biden's, but the perfect countermove to that would be placing Hilary on the ticket as VP. Not really, he might peal away a few but most latinos are Democrats because they are blue collar folks and see the GOP as hostile to minorities. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 05:07 PM) According to Alpha and Genius this is about race. So it stands to reason that they are upset because a white person was attacked and the black person was not arrested. How can we live in a society when criminals like Martin are allowed to roam free? Thankfully we have heroic citizens like Zimmerman who saved society from criminal acts of Martin. The real question is, why is Martin not being charged posthumously, should he not stand trial for his crimes?! What has America come to, when a black teenager can walk through a gated community unarmed and not be arrested? I definitely can see that the Sanford police have gone out of there way not to charge Martin with a crime. Im thinking of doing a million white man march. Were all the white men can get together and protest this outrage. WHO'S COMING WITH ME! I'm with you, but I'm Hispanic so I'll organize the Million Hispanic Man March, we stand alongside our white brothers against scary black youths in hoodies armed with Skittles...the horror!! If we can't shoot suspicious black youths without fear of any reprecussions, that's not the America I want to live in. Somehow in all this crazy racial crap, a young teenage boy was killed by some overzealous weirdo, forget race for a moment, the kid was unarmed, bothering no one and ended dead. I don't care what race he or the shooter was, that was a wrongful death anyway you cut it, that simple.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 12:15 PM) imagine the jury that is on that trial. NBC news would plaster their names and addresses on every news cast, suggesting that possibly a "bounty" should be placed on their heads if they do not convict. Bill O'Rielly working at NBC? I did not know that.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 2, 2012 -> 07:51 AM) Bulls are up 10 games on the Pacers, so barring an epic collapse they're guaranteed a top 4 seed. Sit Rose until he's absolutely 100%. There's nothing to be gained from him coming back and getting re-injured before the playoffs or in the first or second round of the playoffs. The Bulls are up 2 games on the Heat in the loss column with a little over a dozen games left, if the Bulls/Heat split their H2H games, I think a Rose less Bulls hang on for the top seed in the EC. Looking at the Thunder's schedule, they have more road games than home games remaining so the Bulls still have an excellent shot at the top seed overall, even without DR. -

I would rather Rose comes back 100% healthy, the Bulls know how to play with him or without him, Rip needs to come back slowly and get a groove with his team mates. You guys might think I'm nuts but I think the Bulls can play with OKC sans Rose. -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 03:41 PM) Now it's a far-reaching conspiracy on the part of the police, EMT's, witnesses, etc. I don't know about a cop cover up but it's looking like Zimmerman wasn't being totally truthful about what happened that night.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 10:11 AM) I seriously wouldn't blame you. On second thought, I'll stay outta their way

Am I the only one who thinks it's lame to be suspicious of young black males because they have a hoodie on? If that's the case, I'm going to be suspicious of middle aged white guys in track suits who look Italian...

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 04:53 PM) Let's keep in mind that almost nobody alive today has done that, certainly not anyone in our generation. We don't get free run to say or do whatever we want to the British because they ruled us over two centuries ago. Bad analogy, the British never repressed and held Americans as slaves because of their race. Are we going to pretend minorities aren't being attacked anymore? Hate crimes still exsist today, obviously not to the degree as back in the day but the statistics don't lie, a black kid caught with drugs serves a longer jail time than a white kid. The police still go around intimidating minorities, it happens, you think every minority that distrusts the police are criminals? I've never been arrested in my life and I'm wary of them, I don't hate them, there are good cops but there are also redneck racists cops that get heavy handed with minorities. Dave Chapelle and Chris Rock are guys who don't come off as thugs yet they talk about how they get scared when a cop pulls them over and how their white friends have totally different reaction.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 10:36 AM) Good points, and I hope so as well. I just get tired of the double standards for racism in this country. About a week ago, a guy I know on Facebook mentioned a story about Rihanna posting a racist picture on her Twitter account. It was mocking Chris Brown's new girlfriend, who is Filipino or something, using rice cakes. There was almost no backlash. He said that if someone like Taylor Swift had done something similar, she'd be forced to make a public apology, dropped from her label, etc. And I couldn't help but agree. While I agree with this post, we have to keep in mind the history of racism in America, and it has been mostly done by whites against minorities, particularly blacks. Of course there has been racist crimes by minorities against white people but the great majority of lynchings, beatings, assualts and intimidation were white against minorities, that's why it strikes a nerve every time it looks like a hate crime was comitted by a whites vs minority. On a personal note, I have never suffered a physical attack because of my race but I have been verbally abused by whites (been called wetback, beaner, taco bell, Speedy Gonzalez etc). Even got harrassed by the police, living in the LA area, I once decided to shave my head because of the heat and I was being pulled over for no reason other than my appearance, even the cops asked to see my gang tats, never mind I've never had any (never been in a gang, shocking to some white folks) and I certainly didn't dress like a homie (actually I used to dress more like a metal fan). The mistrust of the police in minority areas is real and for good reason. I know a lot of white people like to complain about reverse racism but let's keep in mind minorities never instituted Jim Crow laws, didn't go around burning churches and didn't surpress white's civil liberties. One last thing, does anyone here remember the bruhaha Mexican televsion created a couple of years ago during the South African WC? Some idiot comedians during Televisa's soccer coverage would come out in black face complete with a spear and bone through the nostrils costume, it was really dumb of them and US blogs were crying racism and even though it was bad, Mexico has never had a history of persecuting black people for the sole reason that they are black (there are black Mexicans, particularly in the Vera Cruz area). It is different when a country like Mexico does it as opposed to the USA, it's still not right but it isn't the same. Back to the thread topic

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 06:45 AM) There is a reason why leaving some level of situation to trained responders is the right thing to do in most circumstances though Tex, and it's well illustrated here. A properly trained responder is vastly more prepared to go into a situation, evaluate the situation, and be able to respond without making things worse. In a disturbingly large number of situations, an untrained person going into a situation with no equipment and no backup is very likely to make the situation worse. In this case, for example, we have a guy who didn't have any options other than lethal force if things turned bad. Wasn't in the physical shape to overpower a 17 year old, wasn't carrying anything that could be used non-lethally (baton or taser), had no communication to know if help was available, had no training for how to diffuse that situation, and had no ability to compel the kid to respond to instructions. He made the situation vastly worse for everyone by entering in to it, and once he entered in to it, unless the kid submitted completely, the only plausible endgame was deadly force.
