QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 17, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) I'm not saying it's ALL luck. I'm saying he gets lucky. I'm saying his record doesn't reflect how good his teams are. I remember those stretches early in his tenure when the defense and special teams would outscore the offense. That's not coaching, that's abnormal. Yes, I give him credit for bringing in a turnover/good defense mindset and for the defensive scheme that has clearly worked. But to me that's mostly negated by the bonehead time outs (yes, we can say that's more on Martz and the 12 year old looking qb coach, but after one game of that s*** i'd have everyone in my office getting the problem fixed, not letting it continue for 7-8 weeks into the f'n season), his refusal to make adjustments despite being outplayed (and outcoached) (who remembers that Sunday night game against the Giants last season when he refused to do ANYTHING different or at least tell Martz to try anything different. That is the s*** I cannot stand with him), the challenge issue as you mentioned, etc. I'm considering all of his work and still think he's just average. He's nowhere near "excellent" and to me not "good." Does anyone here truly believe that last year they had any business in the NFC championship game? Seriously. Were they that good? To me (and everyone I know who follows them) they were an average team that lucked into that game. I really don't understand how people can dispute that. People use that as a "oh! 2 NFC championship games, must be a great coach." People were screaming for him and Angelo to be fired after the 2009 season. All that s*** got forgotten real quick once he took an average team to the NFC championship game, which IMO, was a fluke. The Bears beat who they needed to beat to get to the NFC championship game, that ain't luck, if Cutler had a decent game and not gotten hurt, the Bears would've had a great shot at winning that game, we didn't get blown out if you recall. He's big mistake was not going with Hanie after Cutler got hurt. -

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 17, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) Rex Ryan Jim Harbaugh Mike Smith John Harbaugh I really don't know how these guys are so far ahead of Lovie Smith. They may be equal, but not better by a far margin. I think John Harbaugh and Mike Smith are way overrated. Rex Ryan and Mike Smith are overrated in my opinion. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 17, 2011 -> 12:43 PM) I rented it and it is absolutely fantastic and somehow a vast improvement over 11. That being said, it just made me angry to see NBA players and know an actual season wasn't coming. Cool, only bad is the cover of my game, I wanted the Jordan cover but either I wait a week more or get the Magic or Bird cover, I got the Magic Johnson one.

Just purchased NBA 2K12, what do you guys think about the game?

I like Lovie, he has faults like every NFL coach but he's been pretty successful so far. I think it's pretty lame to not give any credit whatsoever and call him lucky, let's be honest, he hasn't really had an offensive powerhouse in any of his teams, he's done alot with less. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 01:55 PM) I disagree with this. Flynn has come in a few times and has played quite well. They are certainly not the same without Rodgers (he is outstanding), but the rest of the weapons are still there. Part of the reasons for Rodgers success are certainly the incredible amount of weapons he has and Flynn would be able to take advantage of those (albeit not as skillfully) just as Rodgers does. I think even without Rodgers, they're still as good as any team I have seen in the NFL this year. They look unbeatable with Rodgers, with Flynn they can be beat, let's not underestimate just how good Rodgers is, he makes plays that not alot of QBs make. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 16, 2011 -> 08:56 AM) You know who is a fluke? The Packers. If you take away Rodgers, Mathews, and company, they would be so average. The Pack are just one Rodgers injury away from being average, their D gives up alot of pts and no way their back up QB comes in and does what Rodgers does...so let's give Rodgers a concussion in the next Bears/Packers game! -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 14, 2011 -> 05:43 PM) Now that would be funny. The owners don't NEED their franchises. They've made their money elsewhere. The players on the other hand...well...good luck with your day to day jobs. Pretty sure the marquee players can still earn a fat paycheck playing in leagues in Europe and other parts of the world, don't think you'll see D Rose applying for a job at Wal-Mart. -

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) Accurate, but also limited in range. Something that Lovie understands and uses Gould effectively within his range. By the time you're done, this team will have 20 HOF's and the '85 Bears will have nothing but scrubs, coached to greatness by the awesome power of Ditka. To even try to argue that the Lovie Smith teams are anywhere as deep talent wise as the Ditka teams is just...asinine. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 05:02 PM) Hey you're right, add another HOF candidate in Gould. One of the most accurate kickers of all time. I'm sure Lovie really coached him up to be the kicker he is today though right? I stopped reading after seeing Gould as possible HOF candidate. SMH -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 12:27 PM) Ditka took a crappy team and molded into one of the greatest teams ever (if not the best). He's always going to be loved for that, though I do think the praise is a bit much. He pretty much flamed out the last few years. Speaking of, the NFL Network's special on Ditka was great, if anyone hasn't seen it. Wow, just wow. Let's be honest, Ditka inherited one if not the best defenses ever, they won the SB because of that defense, Buddy Ryan deserved more credit. That 80's Bears team SHOULD have won more than just one SB, if we are gonna talk about luck, Ditka is it. Ditka had an all time great D, had Walter Payton and a stud O line and you only get one SB appearance? Fail. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) This Lovie "love" is freaking hilarious. The guy is incredibly average at best. His in-game decisions are right up there with Andy Reid. Remove Devin Hester and a top 5 defense for the majority of his tenure and this team misses the playoffs every freaking year. Lovie is the luckiest coach in the league, no one else is even close. Look at some of the impressive wins this year against Atl and now Det. Defensive TO's into points and special teams. Fluke, fluke, fluke. That's the story of the Bears' success during his tenure. That's true for the SB run (mostly fluke) and last years NFC Champ run (all fluke). Re: Luck. This is turning into the Bush v. Williams debate, where 6 months of talking about it has made Bush (Luck) into a 100% guarantee. How'd Bush's career turn out? I'm sure Luck will be a good NFL QB, potentially great as all signs point to him being ahead of the curve at his age. But this crap about trading away a Hall of Famer is hilarious. There's no other option for the Colts. You draft him and you keep him. PERIOD. You cannot take the chance of Luck being a bust (happened before) and Manning still having some years left. Take the best of both worlds - hall of fame qb for another 3-4 seasons with his replacement waiting in the wings. Two of the best QB's right now - Brady and Rogers - both said this was a huge part of why they're as good as they are right now. Lovie is one of the reasons Chicago has a solid D, our main problems have been on the offensive side of the ball...Lovie's defensive philosophy is a bend and don't break D, don't give up big plays and make the other team cough up the ball, turnovers aren't "luck" GMAFB, more like good teams create their own breaks. -

Right now Green Bay looks head and shoulders above everyone but their D has given up a lot of points, I would really love to see the Bears and Packers play right now that the Bears are gelling to see where we are at level wise. -

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 14, 2011 -> 11:43 PM) Guys, is Lovie Smith a very good coach? I'm afraid to believe he is, but I feel like he's converting me. He's waaaay better than Iron Mike yet Ditka is a legend in Chicago, Lovie needs a SB win to cement his place in Bears football lore. -

I watched the game on Fox Sports Mexico and one of the broadcasters took issue with the personal foul issued against Briggs, he said "what's Briggs suppossed to do there?Say to Johnson, hello Mr Calvin Johnson, I'm Lance Briggs, would you kindly permit me to wrap my arms around you and gently lay you on othe ground?Thank you."That's a BS call, it was a good clean hit and this is NFL football. That cracked me up...Briggs gets a PF and Fairley driving Cutler into the ground and Suh trying to rip Cutler's head off go unpenalized, not to mention Stafford's dirty play. f*** Detroit. -

If the Bears take care of business next week vs the Chargers, who would've predicted the Bears would be 7-3 after 10 games, even more impressive since the schedule wasn't soft by any means...the Bears are playing some good football right now, especially with the addition of Bennet and the O line stepping up and not sucking recently. -

Detroit is very aggressive rushing the QB, gotta call some screen passes.Good first half overall but a little bit of a letdown towards the end of the first half, Detroit plays really well in 2nd half of games, Bears gotta step it up and finish the game strong.
