If basketball and football were never invented, and soccer was the US most popular sport, they'd be the most powerful team in the world. Imagine athletes like Jesse Owens, Jim Brown, Walter Payton and Derrick Rose playing soccer since they were kids and with the US putting their enormous resources to develope them like they do in basketball and football, the world would have no chance, I honestly believe this. I've also heard this view being expressed in Mexico among the most respected soccer analysts, they really think highly of the US soccer program and they say the US are not that much off from being legit contenders, not favorites but serious contenders. If I had to guess, I'd say the US will win one before Mexico, especially if they get to host one before. The US has the athletes, they just need to get technically better. Mexico has the advantage in skill (right now), but they don't have the pure athletes the US has. Just my two cents worth.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 06:32 PM) Lose LeBron and Bosh. Add Booz and Deng. Damn that'd be funny, though I'd hate to dislike Deng. If they lose both Bron and Bosh, I don't see how we'd have to dislike Deng, it's not like the Heat would be a serious title contender.

QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 01:14 PM) LOL. Now report saying, Rose didn't help recruit Anthony. WHY WHY WHY. Who cares, he was never coming to Chicago anyways. Let him end his career without even sniffing a title, he got dat money doe.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 09:16 PM) iTribSports @ChiTribSports 1m Report: LeBron's agent, Cavs owner meet http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/break...story?track=rss … If Dan Gilbert didn't act like a vindictive ex-girlfriend, this would be much more believable. Nobody would hate LeBron for going back, I mean it's Cleveland after all, and unlike Miami, they have some nice young talent. Added bonus would be fulfilling his promise of bringing them a title. A win/win situation but Gilbert said some really nasty stuff about Bron

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 06:02 PM) Duh. I'm just saying. I never believed Melo was all about winning that he'd leave money on the table for possible championship(s). Not blaming him at all, BTW. I hope I'm wrong but it's the Bulls we're talking about. Big time FAs never come here.

There's gonna be alot of disappointed fans here when Melo announces he's staying in NY.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 09:28 AM) Who is the ring chaser? Is that some genius dig at Lebron? I'm very confused. Welcome to the internets...

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 02:56 PM) How old are you? Jesus Christ. Yep, he mad...

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 05:10 PM) Yeah right, it just took you that long to get your dial up working. That actually made me laugh

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 01:58 PM) Oh, DAT logic. "Yeah, well others are worse so why bring up ours!" The US and Mexico are arch rivals in soccer. The Mexicans have a pretty fierce rivalry with Costa Rica as well, but this is Red Sox/ Yankees, Cubs/ Sox, Duke/UNC etc of soccer for the US. How could there not be anti-opposition sentiment? I doubt Joe Mexican living in roots for the US. I bet more often than not he actively roots against them too. Pretty much no. They do love Zusi though, if that counts for anything, lol
-
And that only happens in Azteca and nowhere else? You've never heard of violence in other soccer nations? Is this real life? Does the word 'hooligan' mean something to you? I guess it's cool if some Scottish thugs beat an Irish bloke's skull in because, well, he wasn't an American fan of USMNT... My point is, there are worse fanbases around the world but I never hear you guys b**** about them. Dat hypocrisy. I'm not trying to be a dick, it's just a pet peeve of mine and a reason I don't like discussing soccer year round in this thread. Too much of an anti-Mexican vibe here TBH. Anyways, both our teams are out, let's enjoy the rest of the WC.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 11:15 AM) Listen, nobody cares go away. You mad, bro?

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) Wow, 5 places? Amazing. I swear to God PLEASE let Houston's pitch be convincing Melo it's a real city. PLEASE GOD. Now you're just trying to be a dick. Not shoveling snow > shoveling snow

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 10:36 AM) It's a day later, still really bummed. I know it must sting but you guys had no business winning that match, being brutally honest. I was actually shocked how badly Team USA played, Howard literally saved the game from it being a blowout.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 09:42 AM) I hate the way the Mexico team plays and the way their fans treat opposing teams. Complete and utter lack of class and that is why I will always root massively against them. Watching the Belgium game, they played with total class. I tip my cap to them and the best team won and I have zero problem if the Belgians win the whole cup. I'm not excusing the way some fans of El Tri act but you make it sound like they kidnap or physically abuse the opposing team's players or fans. Fans in South Ameica and Europe have been known to kill and physically attack each other, that very rarely happens in Mexico compared to other futbol crazed countries. Mexican fans are hardly the worst. I can tell you by experience. My wife is from Argentina, I've gotten together with her family, her brothers and uncles and their friends. Now those folks are rowdy, and they yell all kinds of obscenties to the opposing teams and nations. Let me tell you, if you guys had to play Argentina as many times as you play Mexico, you'd hate their guts too. Mexican fans ain't got nothing on those guys.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 02:46 PM) His first year with the team, no. But then they made an exception. Chicago Bulls coach Scott Skiles, who would not allow center Ben Wallace to wear his trademark headband last season, said Monday that the team has decided to make an exception to its team rule and let Wallace wear the sweat-stopping accessory during games. The return of the headband was endorsed by Wallace's teammates, Skiles said. "We still have a no-headband rule," Skiles told reporters. "I just left it up to the guys who have been here if they wanted to make an exception for Ben. I was fine with it. They were fine with it." I had no idea the Bulls had a no headband rule, why is that?

I was gonna talk smack to the posters here who were whooping it up after Mexico got eliminated but decided to take the high road. Decided it was enough just knowing you guys got thoroughly outclassed.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 02:10 PM) Belgium scares me more than Argentina Not me, they don't have Messi. Hell, Di Maria and Higuain are better than anyone in Belgium, IMO.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 02:10 PM) Belgium scares me more than Argentina Dude, I would've LOVED Mexico playing Belgium instead of the Netherlands. You guys are overrating Belgium a bit here.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 02:07 PM) Obviously we have to get by Belgium first but if we do we can absolutely beat Argentina. We certainly wouldn't be the favorite, nor should we be but they've been vulnerable every game they've played. This knockout round has shown us that yeah, it's possible that any team can beat any team but the soccer powers eventually win out. I would be shocked if any team that's never won a WC before (obvious exception being Holland), is in the Final Four. Brasil vs Colombia, gotta go with the home team, Brasil, that's one Final Four finalist. Germany vs France, they've both won WCs before, I like France. Netherlands vs Costa Rica, CR is a nice story but their journey ends there. Give me Holland. The winner between Belgium and the US will lose to Argentina which sets up a Netherlands vs Argentina to get the last of the Final Four. Like I said, the soccer powers eventually impose their quality on the rest of the field.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 01:37 PM) I really want to f***in win today. We can beat Argentina. Lol

Great, my wife can breathe again.

All these games in the knockout round have been nail biters, great WC so far.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2014 -> 12:28 PM) If that were the case, he never had a need to become a free agent. I had read that Phil Jackson wasn't going to offer him the max, so this is just a way to leverage NY into paying him the max. According to that article, Dolan has no problem offering Melo the max but PJax does.
-
I know alot of you guys are hopeful about Melo joining the Bulls, I'm not. IMO, Melo cares more about money than titles. He isn't going anywhere and he'll get the max in NY. I'm not hating on him, I just don't believe he'll leave money on the table for a shot at a championship.
