  1. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) A big reason to move Quintana this offseason is because he's the 3rd best available SP right now (After Sale and Archer). Next off-season, he will have to compete with Arrieta, Darvish, possibly Cueto, Pineda, Tanaka, plus the available pitchers for trade. And then in 2018 obviously it's the biggest FA class in MLB history. This is true. They should get as much for Quintana as they are for Sale though and it's probably not going to happen. Deciding you need to trade someone with 4 years of control isn't a prudent way of doing business.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) This week people had several convincing points about Eaton - not only is a lot of his value from last year on defense tied up in his throwing (so there's a chance of a step back in that), but you also have an attitude worry with him potentially not being able to handle having several of his buddies traded. I think I was mostly in agreement with you, but I found those points very persuasive. Rightfully so. What would you need to move him though? I'd need an awful lot. I just don't see that price being met.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 03:35 PM) It's actually the ideal plan IMO I agree. They aren't going to get "value" for Quintana and Eaton because of the years of control. They could always trade those guys later or the trajectory to winning changes if some prospects perform and those guys are still around on the next winning Sox team. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they move Sale, D-Rob, Melky, and Frazier. They could move Gonzalez in season. Guys like Jennings and Jones will have value in season. This isn't a one off-season thing. They are just looking at players with cost control instead of 1-2 year fixes. It makes perfect sense.

  5. QUOTE (Tony @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 09:44 PM) Pence went to see Hamilton tonight..it didn't go great. https://twitter.com/dkipke12/status/799802254794571777 Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump 1h1 hour ago Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing. This should not happen! Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump 55m55 minutes ago The Theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 07:14 AM) Mike Pence is a real piece of s***. So good. Yeah he's the worst. I enjoy seeing him unhappy.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 01:24 AM) Just think. If we hadn't had Robin and we actually had a RELIABLE bullpen and a guy like Salvy Perez, we might not be mourning all but one year of the Robin era. Our bullpen has SUCKED. Now we think we need a total rebuild when we truly COULD contend if Jerry spent MEGA dollars on free agents this offseason. This team is like 15 wins out of first place. Where are those coming from? Their core is as good as the other teams' cores but the rest is s***. Rebuild time.
  8. Dayton Moore, Jed Hoyer here: How about Soler, Happ, Clifton, and Carson Sands for Danny Duffy and Wade Davis?
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 01:16 PM) Wade Davis is still the likeliest to go...but went through injury in second half. You've got Moustakas vs. Cuthbert at 3rd. Duffy has a lot of trade value as a one year rental coming off last season. Dyson is also probably going to end up superfluous. Cain, Escobar, Davis, Moustakas, and Hosmer all free agents at season's end
  10. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 12:33 PM) Martes will be at the top of your rotation with Carlos Rodon and Carson Fulmer in the near future. Colin Moran is your future 3B after you trade Todd Frazier. Moran hit 10 HRs and 69 RBIs last season at AAA from the left side of the plate, so he gives your lineup some much needed left handed power.. He has sure hands and is a good defender. You've lacked a good young 3B since Joe Crede left. Kyle Tucker gives you power in the outfield from the left side of the plate when he's ready in 2 years. To seal the deal I'll include Alex Bregman. His prospects status speaks for itself. Can I ask why the f*** you changed your stadium to Guaranteed Rate Field? As a fan here, not as Jed Hoyer, I'd take Bregman, Moran, Tucker, Martes, and Reed for Sale in a heartbeat.
  11. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 11:10 AM) Several players can move from Tampa. Let us know who you're interested in and we'll talk. - Matt Silverman Matt, Jed here. We have interest in Odorizzi and Archer. What do you think?
  12. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 10:52 AM) Sources: #Rangers close to signing free-agent RHP Andrew Cashner. https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/799655480188698624 Cashner gets a 1 year deal for $10 million.
  13. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 10:41 AM) Arrieta is in a Braves uniform, what a day! Anyone looking to sell offensive juggernauts should hit me up. I have a particularly interesting 16 year old prospect to discuss.. JC I'll take Huntington too. It shouldn't be a conflict. Cubs and Pirates.
  14. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 09:57 AM) How better to prove your point to Mike than by accepting Anderson and Newcomb for Arrieta and Underwood? JC Ian Anderson, Sean Newcomb, and Patrick Weigel. I'll give you Arrieta and Duane Underwood.
  15. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 09:39 AM) The Cubs are absolutely in win now mode Jed, why would you ship out one of your top starters for two players that are years away from cracking a major league roster??? That leaves you needing to replace two quality starting pitchers -Rizzo Mike, We won the World Series. We aren't giving Jake Arrieta a 7 year deal because of the contracts we are going to sign in the future. We have enough offense and I think we have the prospects to acquire another pitcher on the level of Arrieta with some of those pieces. And we just won the world series, and our fans will get over trading Jake Arrieta.
  16. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) As is the case with the Dodgers, Blue Jays should also have 3 picks in the first 35 or so (if Bautista and Encarnacion sign elsewhere and Jays don't surrender other picks). That could make them more likely to just pony up for Fowler. Give up their 1st rounder but they get 2 comp picks for their guys. Makes sense.
  17. I think Toronto absolutely has enough for Eaton. I'd require Vlad Guerrero Jr but I like Anthony Alford, Jon Harris, Angel Perdomo, and Rowdy Tellez. Getting a ML starter like Sanchez would be nice though.
  18. QUOTE (South Sider @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 09:34 AM) Hey Jed, I'm not sure if we match up well, but if you have any ideas regarding some of my players, I'm definitely interested in Arrieta and willing to listen. Thanks. -Dombrowski With a potential compensation pick involved, I'd start with needing Michael Kopech in return.
  19. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 09:32 AM) How would that make sense for the Braves John? Arrieta is a one year rental and you should be looking for assets under longer term control than one year with your rebuilding team -Rizzo I have a strong Braves offer for Arrieta. Any other takers? You get 1 year of one of the best starters in baseball and you also get a 1st round draft pick if he leave snext season.
  20. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 09:27 AM) Hi Jed, John Coppolella here. It's no secret that Arrieta only has one year of control left. Therefore, I'll give you Ian Anderson and Joey Wentz. Give me Anderson and Sean Newcomb.
  21. As Jed Hoyer: I'm looking for young cost-controlled starting pitching. I'm looking to trade Jake Arrieta. Make me some offers.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 18, 2016 -> 05:15 AM) Stewart was already fired. I can try Dayton Moore, but he's unlikely to be targeting any White Sox players...maybe Frazier for DH or Jones. I thought about taking Dayton Moore and selling. All those Boras clients with expiring deals. They need to figure out what to do with Hosmer, Moustakas, and Cain.
  23. Take all of this with a giant grain of salt: I have a buddy from Atlanta that is plugged in locally that I talk NFL Draft with. He's a Braves fan. He claims to have a friend that is a scout for Atlanta. He told me that Atlanta can't get Sale because they aren't willing to trade Maitan or Dansby. He said it's Quintana that they are going after. He mentioned Sean Newcomb, Travis Demeritte, and Mallex Smith. That's not enough for Q but like I said this is what he told me.
