  1. The White Sox eat John Danks' contract and trade for Astros OF Preston Tucker
  2. Ryan Baker ‏@RyanBakerMedia 1m1 minute ago Chicago, IL Some credible sources are telling me Lovie Smith will be the next #Illini head football coach. @cbschicago Ryan Baker is usually solid.
  3. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 5, 2016 -> 02:13 PM) I'm not really sure about that hire, he doesn't have a wow factor for me. Probably won't get a wow factor at Illinois in March.
  4. QUOTE (gatnom @ Mar 5, 2016 -> 01:05 PM) It makes me laugh every time somebody tries to defend a move the Illinois administration makes. Has any program ever willingly fired and hired a new coach in March? It's truly amazing all of the crazy things that this program has done in the last year or so. Beckman being fired a week before the season, Thomas being fired a few weeks before the end of the football season, Cubit being inexplicably retained for another interim year, and Cubit being inexplicably fired in March. I guess we'll see how it all plays out. I agree with the premise but Whitman was just hired. Him deciding to move on is fine. It sounds like he has a coach ready to take over. Rumors point to Leslie Frazier at this point.
  5. I was at the Glazier Football Clinic in Oakbrook last night because I'm a HS coach. Cubit had a presentation last night. Probably completely blindsided. Good for Josh Whitman though. Cubit wasn't his guy and there's no reason to pretend like he was and waste another season.
  6. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Mar 5, 2016 -> 12:34 PM) Saw a tweet that Nightengale was on ESPN 1000 and thinks the Sox "have another move up their sleeve" in regards to the OF, but doubts it will be CarGo or Bruce. Yes that was my tweet. Nightengale was on and pretty confident that they'll be adding an OF. Said he thinks they have "another move up their sleeve". The hosts asked about CarGo and Bruce. Bob said Baltimore is the only team he's heard interested in Bruce. He also doesn't think it'll be Cargo to Sox either.
  7. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 04:24 PM) Levine is just a mouthpiece, period. I can't remember the last time he wrote about a rumor that actually came to fruition. I've noticed that when Levine writes about something, it's usually after another writer has written about it already. Levine broke the Melky signing but I'm pretty sure KW gave him the story. I believe he broke Fowler as well.
  8. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 12:34 PM) I am sure this has been brought up multiple times but with Anderson going down for LAD, doesn't that make a Danks for Ethier swap even make more sense? No. They have a ton of pitchers, some of which are better than Danks. They have: Kershaw, Kazmir, Maeda, Ryu, Wood, McCarthy, Beachy, Bolsinger, and Yaisel Sierra.
  9. QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 12:14 PM) I think they said specifically that they are not going to acquire "big money" FA's. I think they are looking to get some of these bigger name guys at a moderate cost. They aren't going to be big spenders when it comes to making huge splashes on individual players. At least going by what Pace says. Bennett on a 1 year deal would be a nightmare. They want to move on. They'll either move him for a late pick or cut him.
  10. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 12:09 PM) If you feel you are a few years away, why target big money free agents? Something isn't jiving here. They don't feel that way. That's the owner buying time. They will be very active. They want to sign 25-26 year old free agents though. It makes sense because they have drafted so poorly that they don't have a bunch of their own players to re-sign in coming years. They should compete for a playoff spot next year with another solid draft and a good offseason. Fox and Pace haven't been talking like guys expecting for some long rebuild.
  11. White Sox are still searching for LH power according to Levine. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/03/04/lev...t-handed-power/
  12. Hahn is lying. They have $$. They offered Dexter Fowler $20 million + but Latos and Rollins were a stretch? It's nonsense.
  13. QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 4, 2016 -> 09:10 AM) Is it possible that they get something like a 3rd rounder in return? I wouldnt be surprised that a 4th is the best but would be ecstatic if the Bears can get a high 3rd or better for Marty. It really is unfortunate. Such a good tight end that does so much well and busts his ass out there in every game no matter how bad the team was. No chance. I like a 5th is the best they'll do with a 6th most likely.
  14. QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 05:25 PM) So you are on the Wentz train now too huh? He really seems like the perfect profile of a guy being created into this power house though the draft process but not in reality. He has the measurables but I always am skeptical when someone rises this fast out of nowhere. But hell I am totally in agreement of the Bears taking a QB anywhere in this draft that they like. He didn't really rise out of nowhere. I mentioned Wentz as a 1st rounder on twitter last season. Just took the media awhile to come around. If he were at Bama he'd be a household name.
  15. QUOTE (soxfan18 @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 11:44 AM) I don't get your point. Buying direct is a bit cheaper. A UD corner pair for the opener comes out to $72.40 after fees. On Stubhub, the cheapest pair is $79.56, and it's 10 rows worse. Oh yeah for the opener WhiteSox.com is cheaper. It's not for any other tickets though. My OF seats for Game 2 were $23 per ticket.
  16. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 11:34 AM) Not sure the establishment could geat more pathetic if they tried. Nevermind, they totally will. They should though shouldn't they? He can't win the general. Isn't that the whole point?
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 11:31 AM) He is 100% right on pretty much every count. This is the ultimate con job. He's absolutely right. Oliver torched him in the same fashion on Sunday. His supporters don't care though.
  18. People do know that there are already tickets on stubhub, right?
  19. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 11:13 AM) Right, well until they retire, they're getting paid insane money to win cups, not play international matches that don't matter and risk injury. There's a reason the NHL wants pro players out of the Olympics and this is no different. Every year is critical in this Stanley Cup window. The last thing the Blackhawks need is a star player breaking a collarbone or worse. This I completely agree with. I don't care one bit about international competition.
  20. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 10:46 AM) Mitt is delivering a pretty hypocritical speech about Trump right now. https://www.yahoo.com/politics/mitt-romney-...-162616616.html
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 09:49 AM) Very interesting lineup. Didn't think Lawrie could possibly bat 2nd. The way the team is currently constructed, I'd prefer Lawrie hit 2nd vs LHP with his lifetime 128wRC+ vs lefties.
  22. Apparently, the Celtics tried to get Jimmy Butler at the deadline. Offered multiple picks (including Nets unprotected) and a young player apparently. I think I would have at least thought about it. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/celtics...ifference_maker
  23. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 08:25 AM) I don't understand the reasoning why people want Sanchez to be in AAA again. In my opinion, he's already proved himself there and putting him back there again does him no good. To me, he should either be in the big leagues or be traded. There isn't a spot for him in the majors though. Saladino is an ideal utility guy because he can play anywhere on the infield. I don't think Sanchez can play SS but they have been giving him reps at 3B.
  24. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) ref Q, i am with those that are saying that he will need to produce wins to show his value. other than that, he will never get his just recognition. now, if he doesn't, will that mean, that we, the fans of everything about the white sox maybe are being to bias??? Nah. Advanced metrics have pretty much made him a top 15-20 pitcher in baseball. His numbers are pretty identical to Lester and most would consider him an ace.
  25. QUOTE (daggins @ Mar 2, 2016 -> 12:56 PM) Even a bright guy like Keri is severely underrating Quintana. Mass perception is a strange thing. Yeah I'm not sure that Tijuan Walker has more trade value than Q.
