  1. Arrieta is like 99 Pedro right now. Just a machine. He was supposed to be really good though, guys. Nobody thought this good but definitely a #1 starter. He was a high draft pick. Baltimore tried to change him and f***ed him up. He went to the Cubs and they told him to just pitch how he wants to pitch and here we are. I think it'll be curious to see what happens over next couple years. He's a free agent after 2017, will be 31 years old and in line for a 7-8 year deal. Not sure if the Cubs it at that point. Someone will though.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 22, 2016 -> 08:01 AM) Rollins can still hit LHP I believe he had a 115 wRC vs LHP last season. He had 11 of his 13 homers vs RHP though.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 07:15 PM) Kiper and McShay are doing a live mock right now: Goff Wentz Tunsil Bosa Jack Ramsey Conklin Buckner Stanley Elliott Bears: Floyd I'm not a fan of Floyd. He's small, gets blocked often, isn't explosive, and will be a 24 year old rookie. Hard pass.
  4. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 22, 2016 -> 07:11 AM) Without going outside the organization, here is my humble assessment and suggestion: Jackson has been squaring up a lot of pitches, and hitting into very bad luck. He looks like he could still be the career .270 hitter, with a respectable OBP, whom the Sox acquired. He is young enough, with a long enough track record to garner some confidence in his ability to perform. We can't minimize the fact that he anchors the outfield defense. I'd bat him either in the 2 hole, or 9TH. Versus RHP, Melky needs to bat between Abreu and Frazier, both because he is the only viable run producing left handed bat, and because he seems to hit better in the middle of the lineup. I like him at DH much better than LF, where although he has made the plays, every ball hit to him seems like an "adventure". Saladino is a much better defensive shortstop than Rollins, who has clearly lost a step. He should get at least half of the playing time. Tyler could hit against all LH starters and get a few starts vs. right handed starters. I love his baseball acumen, and wonder if he might be a decent number two hitter. He can bunt, but I don't know about his ability to hit to right, on hit and run plays. Avi should be sent to AAA, and get a chance to play the outfield and hit every day. Maybe he needs more reps, as Robin suggested, with his new approach, until it becomes completely natural and comfortable and until he gains more confidence in it. Coats seems like the logical choice. He would make that outfield defense really solid, with him in left, Jackson in center and Eaton in right. Although he isn't left handed, he hits RHP at least as well as he hits lefties, and is currently hitting .415 vs. RHP in his 41 at bats. Lineup Vs. RHP: CF Eaton SS Saladino 1B Abreu DH Melky 3B Frazier 2B Lawrie C Avila LF Coats CF Jackson If Saladino doesn't fill the 2 hole, he could be switched with Jackson, in the order. There isn't anything especially dramatic, or creative in these suggestions, but it would shake things up a bit, and suggest to everyone that the organization demands some accountability, and is not apathetic about a complete failure of the offense to produce. There is also the intangible benefit of rewarding a guy like Coats, who has apparently worked very hard, and is showing some marked improvement. I'd probably go vs LHP 1. Eaton RF 2. Abreu 1B 3. Cabrera DH 4. Frazier 3B 5. Lawrie 2B 6. Jackson CF 7. Navarro C 8. Coats LF 9. Saladino SS vs RHP 1. Eaton RF 2. Abreu 1B 3. Cabrera DH 4. Frazier 3B 5. Lawrie 2B 6. Jackson CF 7. Coats LF 8. Avila C 9. Rollins SS They really need a LH run producer fort the middle of that lineup.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 11:24 AM) I agree he doesn't fit the regular "fit", but I think Hargreaves plays so physical and is so talented, that they look past it. I disagree. They have these thresholds for a reason. If it's a CB, I think it'll be William Jackson.
  6. QUOTE (SoxSteve @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) Again forget about WAR. Austin Jackson has a better WAR than Fowler but who do you want on your team? A guy who gets on base at a 370 clip or a guy who can't get on base. We need a 2 hole hitter not a number 9 hitter. Sure Jackson is a better fielder but thats why we have defensive replacements. We need a 2 hole hitter that won't cost us our minor leagues. He fits the bill perfectly no matter what his WAR says. And flowers was a great pitch framer, lol. Meaningless I don't think Steve likes stats.
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 10:50 AM) Jack is one of the top 8 players on the board. I take him if he's available. Looking more like Elliot might not get there and I really still think if Lynch is there, he might very well be our pick (unless one of the top dlineman or Elliot fall to us). If it isn't any of those guys, I think we go Hargraves or Leonard. Leonard Floyd and A"Shawn Robinson are the 2 guys I really don't want. I don't think Hargreaves is an option at all. Doesn't fit Fangio mold. I can't see them spending a 1st on a 5'10 CB.
  8. QUOTE (scs787 @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 10:25 AM) I've read the Chargers worked Jack out in Safety drills. If he did somehow drop, what are your thoughts on playing him there? If Trev or Freeman get hurt you can move him down and not skip a beat. If Myles Jack is on the board, the Bears should take him. I highly doubt he will be though. Fangio is so multiple on defense that you'd just find a spot and plug him in.
  9. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 10:02 AM) Assuming Bosa, Ramsey and Brouner aren't there, what's the consensus on Jack's health? The talent might be too good to pass up at 11, but the red flags are pretty red for a team a couple years (best case) from contending. Hargraves falling to 11 is the most reasonable scenario that would fit a major need. If Lynch is still there, might be able to get somebody to trade up. Maybe somebody who is already a contender would trade up to get Jack if he's still on the board? Myles Jack goes 5 to Jacksonville in my opinion. His knee is fine.
  10. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 08:05 AM) I think the fine, suspension and sensitivity training are all fair and just punishments. Shaw acted like an idiot and lost his composure. To me, what he said is really bad if it was directed at someone who is gay or is thought to be gay. I suspect, though, that it's his ignorant way of emasculating someone. Also bad, but different. Growing up, f** was something kids called each other as a put down. Same as retard. It's not acceptable now, nor should it be. I hope Shaw understands that the player or ref he was yelling at probably doesn't care about what he was yelling (assuming he is not gay). But, a kid at home watching who is gay might be hugely impacted by what he or she was seeing. Back to hockey, I hope the rest of the Hawks can raise their level of effort to that which Shaw brings every time he's on the ice. He never seems to take a shift off. Great post.
  11. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 09:02 AM) Is some team really going to pay Josh Norman 16 million a year? I think the Panthers were smart to let him go. I'm not sure any CB is worth 16 million a year. Especially not one who had one good year. Sounds like Tampa Bay or San Francisco might. He's awesome. He's 28 though. Panthers were smart. They obviously reached out to clubs and could only get late round picks in return. By doing this, they'll receive a 3rd round comp pick in 2017 when he signs elsewhere.
  12. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 08:41 AM) Kids in school and in April where advance sales are historically low. It's a Chicago team in 1st place. There should be a bigger crowd than that. Rodon was pitching, it was a nice night, and the Sox are in 1st place.
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 08:18 PM) Please no. Stanley, Rankins or Reed. Rankins isn't a fit in the Bears defense. Reed is a good player. Probably a reach at #11 though. Ronnie Stanley would be a great pick though. If you made me guess, I bet they take Shaq Lawson.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 08:38 AM) Hes not gonna make it that far. Dallas would be crazy to take Elliott over Bosa or Ramsey. I can't see the Jags, Ravens, Niners, or Bucs taking him. If the Browns and Giants go elsewhere, he'll be on the board for the Bears and I think they'd take him if he is.
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 07:37 AM) Bears looking at Brian Hoyer, maybe? According to LaCanfora. He tweeted that if Hoyer doesn't sign in Denver, he expects him to be a Bear by the end of the week.
  16. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 01:02 PM) This helps the Bears, especially if Cleveland takes Lynch at #8. Goff Wentz Tunsil Elliott Ramsey Bosa Stanley Lynch Hargreaves Treadwell If you sub Bosa for Buckner, the Bears are in prime position to land Buckner or Bosa. Hell, maybe they even then trade back to 15 and pick up another 3rd and 6th and still perhaps get WJ3, Decker, Lawson, Dodd, etc. I'll say: 1. Rams-Goff 2. Eagles-Wentz 3. Chargers-Tunsil 4. Cowboys-Ramsey 5. Jags-Jack 6. Ravens-Bosa 7. Titans (trade back into top 10)- Stanley 8. Browns-Buckner 9. Bucs-Hargreaves 10. Giants-Conklin 11. Bears-Elliott
  17. QUOTE (Scoots @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 11:12 AM) Nice that Avi isn't in the lineup. Think Ventura is sitting him for not hitting or is he just giving him rest? He's sitting him because he's bad. Ventura said today that it's about production at this point with Garcia. No more time for development or something along those lines. They basically replaced Garcia this offseason by turning him into a DH that would only play vs LHP. They know he's bad. Won't be much longer.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) I just don't understand this. It's the primary to decide who will be the party's nominee for the actual election. If this is an issue, shouldn't it also be a problem that you can only choose one ballot? Why shouldn't anyone voting for primary be allowed to vote for the democrat and republican candidate? The primary's, aside from creating candidates for the GE, are choosing someone to essentially lead that party. I get not making it hard for people to vote, but I don't get the idea that someone who has said they are specifically not a democrat or republican deserves the right to be a part of that process. I'm not interested in voting for anyone on either side this year but it doesn't mean that I wouldn't be in the future.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 12:38 PM) it will be really interesting to see how he responds to full control. He has the type of personality that is cumbersome, so it will be interesting to see what happens if things go south I'm sure he has a GM/Personnel guy picked out to come on board.
  20. The Celtics are 2 losses away from giving up Jae Crowder and multiple picks for Jimmy Butler.
  21. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 12:28 PM) Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojVerticalNBA 6m6 minutes ago Tom Thibodeau is finalizing a five-year deal to become president and coach of the Timberwolves, league sources tell @TheVertical. That's a great move for Thibs.
  22. It's funny that Harriet Tubman who was born a slave is now on the $20 instead of Andrew Jackson who was a slave owner. I've already seen criticism on twitter because Tubman wasn't a president. I've gone 30 years of my life not realizing that Ben Franklin and Alexander Hamilton were once presidents. Crazy.
  23. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 12:10 PM) The sox can't pull a braves like rebuild. The fan base would reject the team possibly more than it did after the white flag and the kids can play era. Is it any wonder why they haven't pulled the trigger on a rebuild or dumpster fire at the deadline or offseason save for July 2013? If the sox went to a $50 million or so payroll full of retreads and kids, the cheap Jew comments about Jerry would blow up boards and social media even greater than they are today. And Jerry is f***ing hated on social media these last few years. The Cubs got the free pass because they are media darlings and theo sold a line of bulls*** about doing things the "right way". And they could financially survive because they have a season ticket waiting list full of brokers and hopeful idiots. Same goes for the actual season ticket holders. Sox had 15k in the house Monday Night for a 1st place team. I'm pretty sure the rebuild crowds would be similar.
  24. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) Jackson, Latos, Rollins, Danks, Navarro, Avila are a lot of people to have on 1 yr deals. Think about how much all that contributes on a daily basis. Next year b/c we have little farm talent, we have to do it all over again. Find multiyear star and/or fix the rest with short term deals. It is a process that will make you wish you had a farm. That is the larger point. Ideally, Fulmer, May, and Anderson take 3 of those spots though.
  25. QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 06:22 AM) The Democrats are picking a candidate. Their group is selecting a candidate. There are mechanisms in place for people who do not wish to join the Dem organization to select and run for president. Why should people who are not Democrats have any say in which candidate that group nominates? "I'm not a Democrat but dammit I want a voice in who they nominate!" Does that even sound right? Because having to link yourself to one side is f***ing lunacy. I am a fiscal conservative and social liberal. I'm voting for Gary Johnson but why shouldn't someone be able to vote for whoever they want in a primary? It doesn't make any sense.
