  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 08:44 PM) Mr. Madison, what you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul. A simple WRONG would've been just fine......
  2. Where is Marty34 in this thread now? Certain people didn't understand why the Sox took a Jacob May in round 3. If you have to, just pretend that Anderson, Mitchell, Danish, and Michalczewski were the Sox first 4 picks. This is why you have to look at the entire draft before commenting. White Sox have done a nice job of adding through the draft the last 2 years. I hope it continues. Now hopefully their efforts in Latin America and overseas can start making a positive dent as well.
  3. Sale will be the White Sox lone representative.
  4. I went to the game at Kane County today. Almora didn't do much but Pierce Johnson threw 7 scoreless ip. Looks like a solid #3 starter in the big leagues.
  5. If you could guarantee Carlos Rodon I'd be willing to be the worst team in baseball this year. Unfortunately, I think Miami has that locked up.
  6. QUOTE (staxx @ Jun 15, 2013 -> 04:21 PM) Is there ANY possibility we can get both Engel and Rodriguez? I would imagine that Engel will sign. Octavio Rodriguez probably goes to school. He could be a 1st rounder in 3 years.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 03:29 PM) https://twitter.com/CST_soxvan/status/34563...9523584/photo/1 Beckham leading off I have seen people complaining about Beckham in the leadoff spot. Who cares? They are facing a LHP. I'd actually rather have Gordon there instead of De Aza.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) Does any team have enough cap space that they could make a legit run at both? Balta, I think Atlanta could do it. I think the Clippers could dump some pieces and pull it off as well though. Dallas has enough room for 1 player.
  9. Tyler Danish ⚾ ‏@danish_Tyler7 40m IT'S OFFICIAL THE CONTRACT IS SIGN IM NOW APART OF THE CHICAGO WHITE SOX ORGANIZATION ⚾ Tyler Danish will most likely start his career at Bristol. @TradeDeadliner: Source: #WhiteSox sign second round pick Tyler Danish (55th overall). He got slot value ($1,001,800). @jimcallisBA
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 10:58 AM) He said almost right away he was headed to Chicago this weekend to sign, and he already is tweeting about his assignment (which he said is the "A ball" team). If he means Kanny, that is a tough first assignment for a high schooler. Anyway, he's not a tough sign, I think he'll be easy. And I am still not sure what JVS meant by "in the fold", I asked him for clarification, didn't hear back. I don't think it means they have all signed yet, just that they are all either signed, agreed to terms, or about to. The tweet that I saw from him said he was coming to Chicago to sign and then would be off to Bristol, Tennessee to start his career.
  11. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 09:44 PM) I know he's young, but that's an awfully big ask to have him go from 'below average pitch recognition' with a 'wild swing' to being a productive Major Leaguer. Obviously he's talented in some areas, but I'm surprised people are still optimistic about Hawkins. Let's write off a 19 year old 1st round pick at High A that did not play much baseball as a high schooler. Sounds like a great idea.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 09:52 AM) The Sox currently have the 6th best ERA in the league and the 4th best starters ERA in the league with what is still a very young pitching staff. A full blown rebuild is absolutely irrational and brash. You make small moves - Crain and Thornton are unlikely to be brought back, so they can be dealt, and if a good package for Peavy or De Aza/Rios, you can make that as well - but tearing this thing apart would be about the worst possible thing this franchise could do right now. It would be worse than giving out a $100 million contract to a player right now, and they wouldn't do that either. They need to determine their two biggest holes offensively going into next season and address those in the offseason. If you can fix three of them, all the better. At the very minimum, the Sox will have a new 1B next year, and they could very well add 3-4 more new pieces on top of that too and it wouldn't hurt. This is absolutely correct. I think Crain and Thornton definitely get traded. I would not be surprised if Alexei was traded either. You can't trade guys just to trade them. Always ask yourself "Does this trade get you closer to the eventual goal of winning a world series"? Lindstrom and DeAza could go as well but would not bring much in return. I have speculated about the Pirates as a team that may be interested in Ramirez. The pitching is too good to have a full scale rebuild just to have one. I would trade Rios or Peavy if there were a maximum return but there probably will not be. I would not just trade Rios and Peavy to do it though. This organization needs to start making good trades and maximizing their return

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 09:14 AM) No, he's sucked this year and he's part of the reason they've been this bad. He looks really old this year. There are a lot of reasons. PK is one of them. Viciedo, Flowers, Ramirez, Keppinger, and yes Dunn. At least Dunn is going to hit 40 homers. It just does not fit when you have black holes in most other spots as well.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 08:38 AM) There's also the whole longevity thing and respecting guys who have done a lot for the franchise. Paulie gets off lightly because he's been with the organization like 15 years now, has put up a few MVP caliber seasons, and helped the Sox win a World Series. I understand all that. It doesn't mean when he is finished with baseball (like he has been for almost a year now) that it's just accepted as fine though. If PK does not hit for power they might as well start selling off parts because they can't win without him.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 08:36 AM) I think it is crazy to come in at the absolute peak of one guys season, and then compare him to another who is at his absolute valley. Where was this post a week ago when Dunn was o for 20 something? Fair point. People seem to be getting awful defensive though when the team captain gets brought up.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) In my opinion, an Adam Dunn type player needs to have an OPS close to .900. If they do that, I really don't care what the batting average is. Will Dunn ever do that again? Who knows. At this point I would just be happy to see him back around the .800 mark he was at last year. I am waiting to see a Paul Konerko thread.....No?.....Anybody? Let's all just rail on Dunn some more. Now, while I recognize that the Dunn signing has been a disappointment and he is not living up to expectations, he is not even the biggest problem on this team. That would be Paul Konerko. While Dunn is hitting .181 on the season, he is still having a better year than PK. Dunn has 17 homers. Leads the team in walks. Finally got his .ops into the .700s (Which is definitely not good enough). The dichotomy that is these two players is fascinating to me. Konerko would never get booed( nor should he because booing is dumb) but Dunn gets lambasted all the time. I would much rather take Dunn's .181 average and 17 jacks than PK's .236 average with no power. Konerko is the biggest problem on this team right now. Followed by Dunn. If your #4 and #5 hitters don't hit, you are pretty much screwed. I just think it's crazy that people still hammer Dunn because "oh my god I hate seeing strikeouts" and I never hear anything about Konerko dragging his ass around because "it's Paulie and his number will be retired some day". Anyone have thoughts on this?
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 02:15 PM) I agree -- the system needs big bats, even if they are of the lumbering variety. The Konerko era is ending, and Dunn will be out the door as well. I wonder if the Cubs would be interested in any of the White Sox pitching in return for Dan Vogelbach. Vogelbach can really rake. He is at Low A out at Kane County. I have seen him a few times this year and will again on Sunday. He is definitely a DH though.
  18. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 09:58 AM) What is your agenda here? Look at his splits against RHP and get back to me. I don't think the majority of people fell in love with Conor Gillaspie. He should play 3B vs RHP like I have stated (And you have ignored) and never play vs LHP. The platoon combo of Keppinger/Gillaspie should get you an .ops of over .800. Seems like you just want to come in here and criticize people. Get a f***ing hobby man. It's a .742 ops vs RHP by the way. Not great but a better player than you are spouting off about.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 11:29 AM) Jesus, that didn't take long. He's hitting .253 with a .687 OPS and falling. Congratulations, Soxtalkdom, you fell in love with 2013 Danny Richar. What is your agenda here? Look at his splits against RHP and get back to me. I don't think the majority of people fell in love with Conor Gillaspie. 20. Not sure if this is the thread for this but it sounds like Danish may be signing on Friday Tyler Danish ⚾ ‏@danish_Tyler7 48m Well flying out to Chicago on Friday ✈
  21. I think the Pittsburgh Pirates could be a potential match for Alexei Ramirez if they decide to trade him. I don't know think the Sox could snag of the Buccos top 4 prospects. Pittsburgh has frontline starting pitching prospects: Jameson Taillon, Gerrit Cole, and even Luis Heredia. Don't think you can get any of those guys. Also, their #4 prospect is OF Gregory Polanco. I don't really think that they could land him either. OF's Josh Bell and Barrett Barnes may be possible though. SS Alen Hanson is another top prospect for them. He may project to 2B. Not sure what the White Sox could conceivably get back but the Pirates need a SS and their system is deep enough to make a deal like that to make the playoffs while still keeping their long term future intact. I would target Alen Hanson, Josh Bell, and one of their minor league pitchers on the 2nd/3rd tear. Pitt could even throw in Jordy Mercer who could start at SS for the Sox for the time being.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 11:49 AM) Is the consensus that Mitchell will be a power reliever? In all, I'm content with the draft so far. Many people think that he is a power reliever. I had heard that he will get every opportunity to start. Keith Law is actually one of the guys that thinks he can stick as a starter. Law had Mitchell ranked as his #35 overall prospect. He had Tim Anderson at #37 overall.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2013 -> 02:08 PM) Ethier and Viciedo would make a great platoon This is actually true. I want no part of Ethier. He is a platoon player. He should not ever face a LHP. Just keep Dunn and let his contract expire next year. Why take on Ethier?
  24. QUOTE (staxx @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 05:39 PM) Seems like we're saving money to sign our two question marks Who are the two question marks? Michalczewski and whom? The TCU RH?
  25. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 05:15 PM) Michalczewski Did I get it right without looking? How do you say it though?
