  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 28, 2013 -> 08:35 AM) Is he planning on cutting Adam Dunn? I know that this quote is supposed to be funny but it's off base. Dunn striking out a zillion times is part of what the White Sox paid for. It's the other guys. Even Viciedo hits HR's to balance out the K's. Beckham and Ramirez are the two worst culprits and they are adding Flowers to the mix. Beckham and Alexei don't offer enough power to strikeout as much as they do. It's not even the strikeouts as much as the outs. The White Sox have way too many outs in their lineup. Beckham, Viciedo, and Ramirez are just out way too often. It is impossible to have 3 sub .300 obp guys. While the strikeouts are tough to watch, I care much more about the outs committed in general. The majority of the board hates Adam Dunn but the reality is that he committed like the 3rd fewest outs on the team last year.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 21, 2013 -> 08:22 AM) He was looking for a 5 year 18 million deal with Borass as his agent. Plus he would require the loss of a 1st round draft pick. SS, you nailed it. The draft pick rules are really affecting Lohse and Bourn. Bourn would've gotten the $$ I think if it weren't for having to give up that draft pick. It's just not worth it. Many teams would be fine with either giving up the pick or paying the large $$. Not both though. And sign me up for Kelly Johnson and Kottaras.
  3. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jan 12, 2013 -> 12:06 PM) There is really no answer for that, is there? This is a mystery. Maybe Wrigley Field is more popular than baseball in Chicago. Maybe Hahn thinks silence is a good thing. Maybe contract talks are too open with the "we can only keep player X if fans show up". I would say the talks among fans about losing players outweighs how long they keep a player. That's the Bill Wirtz model. Doom and gloom. It's not the whole reason but i think part of it is the structure of the team. They don't have very much homegrown young, exciting talent. Now to get those things, teams generally go through growing pains in the process. For the White Sox, this would mean 10,000 fans per night during this process. This is a crazy thought and has close to a 0% chance of happening ,but if 3 years from now the Sox OF of Thompson, Walker, and Hawkins is one of the better ones in baseball, and Viciedo is a solid 30 HR per year guy, the Sox could easily draw 30,000 fans per night. I know there is a very slim chance that any of this happens but young, impact stars would make a huge difference.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 12:10 PM) When the White Sox have a 1st baseman in his late 30's, any time he struggles, it's a sign he's getting old and doesn't even belong in the upper half of the order. When the Tigers sign an OF in his late 30's, he's going to dominate. Are you accusing me of feeling this way? My point was that I wouldn't want Hunter. $13 million per? No Thank You.
  5. On twitter last night, Jim Callis said that while the White Sox have improved their talent level greatly, they are still ranked #29 for BA.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 10:20 AM) Torii Hunter's better than Tank and Omar Infante plays 2B for the Tigers now. Would you rather have Torii Hunter on the White Sox at this stage than Viciedo though? I think Viciedo's numbers at the end of the year will be better than Hunter's numbers. Tank should hit close to 30 HR's this year.
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 06:17 PM) Apparently Matt Spiegal said on the SCORE today that he was told AJ was telling anyone who would listen last year that he didn't respect Ventura. Well Matt Spiegel was not on the SCORE today so nice try. Lovie Smith got fired today if you haven't heard and that is what was talked about. If you look back in the thread a few days this topic is talked about. Spiegel did say this about AJ among other things. Look at the thread from last week.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 10:54 AM) Personally, the "As soon as it's official and AJ is gone, so we will start bashing him and telling some supposed stories out of school" routine, doesn't work for me. AJ was so hated and no one could play for him, that he signed 3 or 4 White Sox contracts. Rozner, who I really like, and Speigel, should be embarrassed they spent their show with this crap. Now, if they want to have someone actually speak on the record, that could be different. Spiegel did say on the show that he was just given this information this week otherwise he would have brought it up long ago. Spiegel doesn't typically beat on a guy after he leaves. Rozner OTOH has always said these things about Pierzynski. These comments are nothing new. It surprises me that anyone who doesn't live under a rock would be surprised by these comments. They both did note all of the good things that AJ brought. Nobody was "bashing" Pierzynski. Especially not when all of it is true.
  9. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 10:20 AM) Just got an email from a pal who listened. His synopsis: Last season Robin allowed girlfriends to fly on the charter jet on road trip. Apparently wives were only allowed with Ozzie. All season long, AJ openly complained about this, sometimes in front of said gf's. This pissed a lot of the single Sox off big time. Spiegel did mention this. Also said that AJ often clashed with Ventura because he did not respect him. Rozner mentioned that Cooper, Parent and the rest of the staff did not get along particularly well with AJ either. I don't know why people are surprised by this. Pierzynski is a child. Anyone who cares about which other people are on the team charter has some issues. He is a guy that needs to find something to be annoyed by. I appreciate AJ for all of the good things that he did and for being the guy that called guys out for things. He is an asshole though. Always has been. We heard less about it here because AJ was allowed to play as much as he wanted. Rozner and Spiegs mentioned how many players grew tired of AJ and that they referred to him as "Satan" in the clubhouse. Bottom line: Pierzynski will not replicate similar production on offense next year, pitchers do not like throwing to him, he is horrible defensively, and it's time to see what the Sox have with Tyler Flowers.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 04:53 PM) I think that shows you how bad the market is for him. The White Sox must have really not wanted him back. I thought they would do a 1 year deal. Must be for like $8-$10 million.
  11. I saw that I missed a lot in this thread while I was watching football all day. Then I read through and realized that I haven't missed anything.

  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 05:10 PM) Can I be the first to say ASINAA Anibal Sanchez Is Not An Ace. Which is fine because he's not getting ACE money.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 04:56 PM) Cubs have some pretty good pitching now, but that deal makes no sense. Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale The #Cubs are still finalizing the details, but Sanchez has agreed to the five-year deal that will be announced after physical Word is that it is a 5 year $75 million deal. Heyman and Rosenthal both say that it is not yet completed however. Deal gives the Cubs a rotation of Garza, Sanchez, Feldman, Baker, Samardzija, and Wood. Not too bad actually.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 09:28 AM) Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisBA Yes. Though Addison Reed made it last time, too. @jamesfox917: #WhiteSox finally have a top 100 prospect with Courtney Hawkins? Haha I sent this tweet to Callis. jamesfox917 is my twitter handle. Funny, I have never seen this post until now.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 07:04 AM) If the Yankees don't take him, i don't know where else he's got a starting job. With the offers drying up, maybe the Sox do work something out with him on the cheap? If that's the case, I still would like to see T-Flo get more starts than last year. I have seen Texas mentioned over the last few days as well but your point is a good one. I kind of figured he would not have as great of a market as was once thought. AJ has gotten whatever he wants here for a long time. He gets to play pretty much whenever he wants. We don't hear about many clubhouse problems but many of his teammates can't stand him. I just think that and the fact that he is bad defensively and 36 years old is what is making teams reluctant to sign him.
  17. I could have gone either way because I have family on both sides that are Cubs and White Sox fans. When I was a kid, I went to way more Sox games than Cubs games and well like many have said, The White Sox had Frank Thomas. I am 27 years old so those teams headlined by Frank and Robin were what I remember from my youth. I met Frank at a book signing last year and told him the same thing. I always liked the black and white colors too.
  18. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 10:49 AM) First off, everyone knew the Ozzie connection was going to make Freddy much simpler to extend. And yes we were all upset about losing Olivo and Reed but neither were in the same ballpark as what the Rays got. Olivo never put up huge numbers and while Jeremy was lighting the minors on fire he was still being compared to Mark Kotsay. And your line if thinking is just ridiculous, so as long as the Royals prove that they're trying to win this is a good deal despite the fact they're not going to be a playoff contender? That's just absurd. Wasn't Freddy acquired during the 2003 season before Ozzie was even the manager? Ozzie's first year Freddy was already in the rotation and they traded Loaiza for Contreras. So when Freddy was traded for, they had no idea that the Ozzie factor would make him sign because he was not here yet.
  19. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 7, 2012 -> 07:29 PM) Sox are targeting a much bigger impact bat right now. Do you have the name or is it just a big bat in general? Obviously I don't expect you to share the name but you know what I mean.
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 7, 2012 -> 06:16 PM) Hopefully he decides to not come to Chicago. If it's really cheap it's fine. If he was coming here to start I would absolutely hate it. It sounds like it would just be as a bench guy or fill in at 3rd.
  21. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 7, 2012 -> 04:19 PM) Sounds like BMac to DBacks Yeah sounds like $15.5 million over 2 years. The Diamondbacks have tons of pitching depth now.
  22. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 12:37 PM) FWIW Youk has a 1 year $12M dollar offer on the table, from NYY. I think he ultimately turns that down to play in front of a packed house in Cleveland.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 12:55 PM) They should probably throw in Nolasco to make it fair. I wonder if the Sox could get Morrison for a package based around Morel?
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 10:54 AM) I think you have a package figured out although not sure Granderson is the target. If he was I would say there would be an OF getting dealt as well. Jesus. Rock with all these hints. I appreciate the info that you always give but now I will be checking all 30 team's rosters for players.
  25. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 10:51 AM) is Granderson actually considered at all available? Yeah I think the Yankees would do it. They are trying to free up money for the first time in ever. He's a Free Agent next year and they will have to outbid the Dodgers for Cano. I think NY would want young cost controlled for Granderson though. They would do it to dump money, not to add Thornton and Floyd.
