I'll start this by saying that I trust the opinion of many people on this board who know far more about prospects success/fail than I do. Below is a twitter exchange with Kane County Cougars PBP guy and 670 the score update guy Wayne Randazzo about Courtney Hawkins. Wayne Randazzo ‏@WayneRandazzo 5h That's a tremendous amount but it doesn't really matter at that level. RT @SoxNerd: Courtney Hawkins 108 K in 214 AB for #WhiteSox HighA aff I jumped into that conversation with this: James Fox ‏@JamesFox917 5h @WayneRandazzo Hawkins has been really bad Wayne. Should Sox have sent him back to Kanny or just repeat W-S next year? Does have 15 homers Wayne Randazzo ‏@WayneRandazzo 5h @JamesFox917 He should repeat W-S to start next year. Still so early in his development. James Fox ‏@JamesFox917 5h @WayneRandazzo Hope so. Just doesnt seem like hes adjusting. Was great at Bristol, Kanny, and WS in short stints last season though. Wayne Randazzo ‏@WayneRandazzo @JamesFox917 He's only 19. Some people need time. It's not a big deal. If he struggles next year, start to worry. Even then, just a little. These thoughts are more positive than many on this board. I usually trust Wayne's opinion on things because he's spent some time working in the minor leagues. I still worry though. I still think Hawkins has the highest ceiling out of any prospect in the system but it obviously doesn't mean he will ever reach that ceiling.
  2. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 04:18 PM) Detroit swapped theirs with Miami as part of a bigger deal. The Pirates gave up their pick for Gaby Sanchez who the Marlins were planning on non-tendering. So that still doesn't make them seem to be too entirely valuable in a deal. More or less a throw in. The Rockies have the 1st Competitive Balance pick. Would anyone be willing to trade Crain for that pick or something and that pick? Would Colorado even do that?
  3. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 03:36 PM) I would take whatever we can get, though it is really hard to place a value on a pick when they have never really been dealt before. Detroit and Pittsburgh both traded theirs last season.
  4. This article is a Cubs article from bleacher nation. Today at 3pm central time is the Competitive Balance Lottery. Obviously, the White Sox will not be receiving a competitive balance pick. What does everybody think about the Sox potentially trading for Competitive Balance Picks? There may be a few contenders that receive picks. I am always all for having extra draft picks. What does everyone else think? http://www.bleachernation.com/2013/07/17/t...-can-be-traded/
  5. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 01:54 PM) Another thing to keep in mind with Dunn is that hitters with his power no longer grow on trees. That power will be more valuable going forward. He's still an instant impact game changer. Lets not forget he also led the league in walks last year. Stop yourself. Him leading the league in walks doesn't fit the narrative.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 12:45 PM) Because you are also getting 300K's, a .200ish average, and probably long stretches of horribleness where Dunn won't help you at all. Can we stop quoting the average? Please? Go dit drives me crazy on this board. Now, his .obp isn't great either but we need to reference the .obp with Dunn. The batting average is irrelevant.
  7. This information about Rios was in Jim Bowden's article today.... The Chicago White Sox have been shopping almost all of their players, but so far they have been extremely disappointed in the offers they've fielded for right fielder Alex Rios. However, with very few bats available they should still do fine, as teams always get a bit more desperate right before the deadline.
  8. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 10:30 PM) I'm working on it. I've got a few names, none of which suprised me. Despite what you've heard, they want 1) High-ceiling low level or 2) Impact, close to league ready Guys I know they've asked for: Pit - Hanson, Polanco Tex - Sardinas, Font Az - Eaton, Holmberg, Owings I love that they are asking for shortstops back in deals. Very intriguing. Thanks bucket.
  9. David Kaplan tweeted that he interviewed Bob Nightengale for SportsTalkChi Live today and Nightengale said that Profar is in play in the Garza talks. Hang on....wait for it...HAHAHAHAHA....I love this time of year.
  10. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 02:46 PM) I don't think Olt is a good fit there -- they've got Baez and Bryant as long-term 3B guys, and Rizzo locked up at first. Can't have too much depth, sure, but I'd think they would prefer a different type of guy. I don't think Bryant is playing 3B in the majors. He's an OF in my opinion. I am also seeing rumors of the Cubs holding out for Feliz in the Garza talks though. So who knows. I would be okay with Olt as a piece of the Rios trade if it means Texas is paying Rios next year.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 02:37 PM) The White Sox farm system didn't get any worse when Dunn was brought in - the White Sox signed him. Subjective rankings of farm systems throughout the majors doesn't do a whole lot either. "Mr. Baseball Expert thinks the White Sox are 28th, which means it's bad!" except that he may have a bias against the system or may not have a good scout or may have seen players on a bad day or what have you. It's not a great system, but there's some high ceiling talent in the system, they have a decent amount of pitching, and they are starting to spend in Latin America. All of this is irrelevant to the main point, but it's there. Regardless, 5 of the 6 primary starters the Sox have used this year have been minor league acquisitions somehow, someway. Anyways, I'd try to acquire a few talented outfielders plus a 3B at the deadline. Then sign a few free agents. Bring in a new 1B, with the top name on my personal list being Kedrys Morales. If they're willing to spend a lot, perhaps Shin-Soo Choo for the outfield; if not, Beltran and Granderson's names have been bounced around here quite a bit too. Michael Morse and Jason Kubel are possibilities too. If they get lucky with Choo (I believe Boras is his agent, so this almost certainly won't happen, but for hypothetical purposes), sign Morales, sign Beltran, and bring in a young 3B prospect (we'll just leave this as Gillaspie in the lineup below)in a trade while Peavy, Rios, and De Aza are dealt away, you can run out a lineup of... Choo - CF Beckham - 2B Beltran - RF Dunn - DH/1B Morales - 1B/DH Phegley - C Gillaspie - 3B Viciedo - LF Ramirez - SS It's not a great lineup, but it's improved from last year while likely adding only one long-term deal in Choo and I would say $35 million in payroll (figure $18 Choo, $10 Beltran, $7 Morales, but it may be up to $40 or, if you work the contract out right, could be as little as $30 this year). There are spots that can be upgraded if the time comes and if it fails, there are still pieces you can deal. On top, you've improved the depth of the minor league system and your rotation of Sale-Quintana-Santiago-Danks-Johnson really isn't that bad either. This would actually work too because if they are bad they could flip Beltran and Morales.
  12. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 02:25 PM) Hitting wise, none of their prospects interest me except Dahl. And I doubt they trade him.for Crain I like Trevor Story an awful lot. Don't think he can be had for Crain though.
  13. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) I agree. But then I think if Peavy could get 2 good starts in. Raises his price for the DBacks as he's the best pitcher available after Garza I was wondering about this. If Boston, Texas, and Arizona are all interested Garza one of them may want Peavy as well. Peavy is lined up to start 3 times before the trade deadline.

Ray Donovan has already been renewed for Season 2 by Showtime.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 02:15 PM) Great post. That's all I want. Fans to blame Robin some. I like Robin. I have no problem with him continuing as manager. But his staff has failed miserably this season. That's OK. I don't want him to be fired. I'm just laughing because if the former manager had orchestrated this first half ... wow, he'd be run out of town. This team looks like it is managed by Andy the Clown, God rest Andy's soul. I think blaming this season on the coaching staff is really lazy. You could bring any coaching staff in this season and the Sox are still one of the 5 worst teams in baseball. The one thing Robin does that drives me nuts is he gives away too many outs. I don't think his staff has failed miserably though.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 01:56 PM) Son of former-Sox Chris? Yes I do believe so. Was 17th overall pick in 2011 draft. Has Plus-Plus raw power. 1B prospect. Just played in the Futures Game and is one of Angels best prospects in a system that is worse than the Sox system.
  17. Rockies are said to be interested in Jesse Crain. http://www.denverpost.com/rockies/ci_23666...white-sox-could
  18. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 01:16 PM) If Wise is activated it would have to be Tekotte right? The two of the them on the bench together makes no sense. Wise isn't exactly setting the world on fire in his rehab stint. Wise is going back on the DL at Charlotte with a hamstring injury. Tekotte is younger and should be on the team instead of Wise anyway. Axelrod will go to the bullpen and Peavy will be with the team on Friday to start Saturday. They aren't down a guy. They could have waited until after Friday's game to activate Peavy but it's not like they need 8 relievers for Friday night right? They probably just want Castro back at Charlotte for Friday nights game.
  19. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 01:05 PM) .890 OPS in AAA after getting the eye surgery. 28 HR, 82 RBI, .288 BA, .398 OBP, .977 OPS over 95 games in AA last year. He's far from a washout or valueless player. He'd be our number 1 prospect, easily, and could be playing in the MLB as soon as this year on our team. I think Olt ends up going to the Cubs as part of the package for Garza.
  20. Wrong Los Angeles team but is there anyway the Sox can acquire CJ Cron from the Angels? He is going to be blocked for quite some time. They will need pitching. Just a thought.
  21. Not sure where this goes. Hector Santiago will be signing autographs at Dean's Dugout Baseball Card shop in Naperville. Thursday July 18 6:30-8 PM. Store is at 87th and Washington in Naperville. I think it's $20 for an autographed photo.
  22. Here's one story on Rios to the Yankees. I found nothing solid though. http://sporrty.com/2013/07/15/yankees-rumo...os-to-new-york/
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 06:16 PM) I don't know about "deadly." You could look at it another way and say he'll ruin that lineup if he gets in one of his patented strikeout funks. Their professional hitters are probably not used to seeing such ineptitude on a fairly frequent basis. It's going to be great to rebuild and not have Dunn around anymore. As opposed to the rest of the team's strikeout, groundout, and flyout funks. Man you love to hammer a guy that's going to have 500 major league homers.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 07:21 PM) Still, if you have the 13th pick in the draft, it shouldn't be somebody who is terrible in A-ball. If Hawkins doesn't become an everyday White Sox player, it's not good for Kenny, Buddy, Laumann. That's on them too. It was the right pick at the time. If the Sox would have taken Michael Wacha at the time, many would have been upset. He was looked at the typical safe college starter that the Sox used to take. Everyone wanted the high impact HS bat including myself. Then he fell to us. It was the right pick at the time.
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 07:00 PM) Can't be walking the leadoff hitter Matt. (Chris Young of all people) Sucks for him, but never upset to see Boston lose. Side note from that game: Turns out the Cubs did have their 3B of the future in their system the whole time. Too bad they traded him to Oakland, Donaldson is killing it this season. Not really. Donaldson is going to be 28 years old. He sucked for 2 years in the minors. Was a throw-in in the Rich Harden deal.
