QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 02:15 PM) Great post. That's all I want. Fans to blame Robin some. I like Robin. I have no problem with him continuing as manager. But his staff has failed miserably this season. That's OK. I don't want him to be fired. I'm just laughing because if the former manager had orchestrated this first half ... wow, he'd be run out of town. This team looks like it is managed by Andy the Clown, God rest Andy's soul. I think blaming this season on the coaching staff is really lazy. You could bring any coaching staff in this season and the Sox are still one of the 5 worst teams in baseball. The one thing Robin does that drives me nuts is he gives away too many outs. I don't think his staff has failed miserably though.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 01:56 PM) Son of former-Sox Chris? Yes I do believe so. Was 17th overall pick in 2011 draft. Has Plus-Plus raw power. 1B prospect. Just played in the Futures Game and is one of Angels best prospects in a system that is worse than the Sox system.

Rockies are said to be interested in Jesse Crain. http://www.denverpost.com/rockies/ci_23666...white-sox-could

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 01:16 PM) If Wise is activated it would have to be Tekotte right? The two of the them on the bench together makes no sense. Wise isn't exactly setting the world on fire in his rehab stint. Wise is going back on the DL at Charlotte with a hamstring injury. Tekotte is younger and should be on the team instead of Wise anyway. Axelrod will go to the bullpen and Peavy will be with the team on Friday to start Saturday. They aren't down a guy. They could have waited until after Friday's game to activate Peavy but it's not like they need 8 relievers for Friday night right? They probably just want Castro back at Charlotte for Friday nights game.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 01:05 PM) .890 OPS in AAA after getting the eye surgery. 28 HR, 82 RBI, .288 BA, .398 OBP, .977 OPS over 95 games in AA last year. He's far from a washout or valueless player. He'd be our number 1 prospect, easily, and could be playing in the MLB as soon as this year on our team. I think Olt ends up going to the Cubs as part of the package for Garza.

Wrong Los Angeles team but is there anyway the Sox can acquire CJ Cron from the Angels? He is going to be blocked for quite some time. They will need pitching. Just a thought.

Not sure where this goes. Hector Santiago will be signing autographs at Dean's Dugout Baseball Card shop in Naperville. Thursday July 18 6:30-8 PM. Store is at 87th and Washington in Naperville. I think it's $20 for an autographed photo.

Here's one story on Rios to the Yankees. I found nothing solid though. http://sporrty.com/2013/07/15/yankees-rumo...os-to-new-york/

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 06:16 PM) I don't know about "deadly." You could look at it another way and say he'll ruin that lineup if he gets in one of his patented strikeout funks. Their professional hitters are probably not used to seeing such ineptitude on a fairly frequent basis. It's going to be great to rebuild and not have Dunn around anymore. As opposed to the rest of the team's strikeout, groundout, and flyout funks. Man you love to hammer a guy that's going to have 500 major league homers.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 07:21 PM) Still, if you have the 13th pick in the draft, it shouldn't be somebody who is terrible in A-ball. If Hawkins doesn't become an everyday White Sox player, it's not good for Kenny, Buddy, Laumann. That's on them too. It was the right pick at the time. If the Sox would have taken Michael Wacha at the time, many would have been upset. He was looked at the typical safe college starter that the Sox used to take. Everyone wanted the high impact HS bat including myself. Then he fell to us. It was the right pick at the time.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 07:00 PM) Can't be walking the leadoff hitter Matt. (Chris Young of all people) Sucks for him, but never upset to see Boston lose. Side note from that game: Turns out the Cubs did have their 3B of the future in their system the whole time. Too bad they traded him to Oakland, Donaldson is killing it this season. Not really. Donaldson is going to be 28 years old. He sucked for 2 years in the minors. Was a throw-in in the Rich Harden deal.

There's a lot of chatter about Morales and Schierholtz for Pittsburgh. That might be a better scenario for Pirates. They could get Kendrys Morales to play 1B and Schierholtz to platoon with Tabata in RF and it's still cheaper than Rios.

Rowdy Tellez signed with Toronto. He is a guy that I really liked. Blue Jays gave him $850k as a 30th rounder.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 09:56 AM) What would be better, making a package offer of two or more of our veterans OR making separate deals with different teams for individual players? Would we have a better chance of obtaining top 20 prospects by combining vets? It depends. I wouldn't trade Rios and Ramirez for example. That would be quite a haul and most teams would be unwilling to give up for both. Same goes for Peavy. Sox might be able to extend the value of a deal by adding Lindstrom or De Aza in a deal with one of the position players. Crain is another guy. With Crain's injury, it is possible he'd be packaged. If Pittsburgh wanted Rios, they may like Crain as well giving them the best bullpen in NL and upping the ante as far as prospects the White Sox could receive.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 01:31 PM) If the Cardinals are looking at Alexei, and get him, and the Pirates miss out on him, and they do another late season fade, I think Pitt fans will go crazy. Not only can they improve their team, but they can potentially keep the Cards from improving. The Pirates would seemingly give the sox the biggest return for Alexei. Mercer also has been playing 2b, which has been another weak spot for Pitt. as well. They can keep him-even though he's had like 1 XBH the last month. I disagree. I just spent a week in Pittsburgh. Most of their fans don't want to trade anything of value to get anyone. Not even Kingham, Josh Bell, or Hanson.

Brandon Jacobs will be heading to Birmingham according Buddy Bell on WhiteSox Weekly. Said Mitchell, Trayce, and Walker will remain there as well. Mentioned that someone will have to DH every day.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 12:57 PM) I think if we packaged Alexei and Thorton to the Cardinals for Kolten Wong and Martinez or Wacha, or along the lines, people would be ecstatic. I am don't have a problem with the value of the return, I just don't think it's the right type of player. I don't think that package brings you back one of those pitchers though.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 11:06 AM) I expected Thornton to get traded but I think we could have gotten more. MLB Network guys said the same thing. Boston has a lot of young OF talent in the minors. Plus WE gave Boston money when everyone says we are maxed out I would imagine that $750,000 is going towards the buyout. This was a fine return for Thornton. Hahn said that this was the best piece that was offered. Not surprising given the fact that Thornton is a 37 year old LHP with declining stuff. I am not sure what people expected.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 10:53 AM) Is Rios/Ramirez really that much of an upgrade over Tabata/Mercer right now? Absolutely. Rios is a huge upgrade. He adds another bat to the middle of that lineup and he is a much better OF than Tabata. Ramirez is a lot better defensively than Mercer and is a much better offensive player than Barmes. I think they would be betting on Ramirez to hit like he did in prior years. I would think that Pittsburgh would be much more interested in Rios than Ramirez though. They don't need Ramirez for the next 3 seasons. They do have Alen Hanson in the minor leagues and Mercer is fine for now. Rios would be a big upgrade though. I would like to see Tabata as part of the package coming back to the Sox.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 10:17 AM) It looks like they've been platooning Garrett Jones and Gaby Sanchez at 1b. Sanchez had a good start to the season but his numbers now look pretty rotten. That does look like the position where they could use a bat. Pittsburgh uses a combination of Garrett Jones, Travis Snider, Jose Tabata, and Gaby Sanchez for 1B/RF. They use Mercer/Barmes at SS. Those are the spots to upgrade. They could find a 1B or RF. Rios is a perfect fit for them because it allows them to just play Sanchez/Jones at 1B. Obviously they'd never take on this much money but if they had Dunn at 1B and Rios is RF they'd be the favorites in the national league. McCutchen and Marte are very exciting players. However, Alvarez is the only consistent power threat on their team.

QUOTE (mike65 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 08:41 AM) Cardinal fan, again. Buster Olney tweeted yesterday that the Cardinals and Indians were again discussing Asdrubal Cabrera. While I am sure that such discussions have taken place, I think the results will be like last winter. The Indians still want one of the Cardinal good young pitchers - Wacha, Miller, Rosenthal, or Martinez - and I am pretty sure the Cardinals will not do that. All roads lead back to the White Sox, IMO. The question is what Hahn would want in return? I have tried to play GM with my neighbor who is a lifelong White Sox fan. Nothing that I have suggested pleases him so I feel for Mozeliak - Hahn. I did think that the White Sox would have gotten slightly more for Thornton so now I am really confused. I have thought that Wong + one (lower level) should do it but no according to my neighbor. What say all of you? Mike here is what I will say. Taveras or all of the high level young pitching is an unrealistic return for Alexei. However, If I were Rick Hahn I would be asking for Matt Adams. I would probably take a deal built around Wong and another mid level prospect or 2 but that deal would take until the deadline. Adams is the type of guy that White Sox need to acquire in these deals. That may be too steep for St. Louis but that's what I'd ask for.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 11:35 PM) Yes, scary. But you must admit Thornton wasn't exactly effective and he was only going to get worse. Great post, Harry. How can you say we got good value? This guy we got is a total longshot. Granted, I'd rather acquire a hitter than a pitcher, but Jacobs is not exactly a prime prospect. Greg this is a good trade. Not sure what you wanted here. I think you threw out the blanket statement a week ago that they'd get a couple of 10 rounders for Crain. Jacobs was a 10th round pick. Not relevant at all. Just thought I'd mention it.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 11:44 PM) Is there anything such as a low ceiling high floor guy? If so, let's target that guy. Why would you want that? Are you aspiring to be Jerry Angelo? That's what he always said. Targeting low ceiling high floor guys doesn't win you the World Series. This trade was good. Matt Thornton is done. Thornton should have been traded 2 years imo.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 05:17 PM) http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/boston-...deadline-071213 I bet Thornton and Lindstrom both go quickly after the break. I asked Pete Abraham on twitter what he thought about a potential Matt Thornton trade return. He mentioned LHP Drake Britton and 3B Michael Almanzar. That level of prospect. Britton is rated as the 12th best prospect in the system according to BA.
