True. I’d rather take Dillon Head underslot at 15 than pay slot for Bradfield
-
Maybe 40 power and he doesn’t hit the ball hard. I’d hate that pick. He’s not useless but they should have better options

For those who haven’t listened: Ben Badler of Baseball America joined us this week. He discussed the recent signing class in here. https://soxmachine.com/2023/05/futuresox-podcast-ft-ben-badler-of-baseball-america-reviewing-the-2023-chicago-white-sox-international-class/

I really hope they don’t do prep pitching in round 1
-
Yeah it was pretty interesting from today.
-
They rarely go under in the early rounds. You can’t really take one of the best players and go underslot though. They don’t go over in round 1 either though.
-
They rarely go underslot in round one and I’ve liked all three of Mike Shirley’s first rounders for the most part. He loves upside.
-
Lopez is a free agent after the season
-
That goes by bonus amount and not how good the players are but I understand the frustration. The Sox strategy is stupid They have like around $1.5 million still, yes
-
I just don’t like players who don’t impact the baseball. I don’t trust the White Sox to pull out more than like 40 power and he just doesn’t hit the ball hard enough consistently.

Jim Callis has a new mock draft. I would hate this pick for the White Sox: https://www.mlb.com/news/first-mlb-mock-draft-2023

This is at Lockport High School
-
Maybe if he stays in Kanny forever
-
I don’t think it’s a mandate. There’s definitely not a preference to pay $7 million for a prep guy with “more advanced” college players available There are clearly no mandates right now. When the slot value is $7 million plus though, the owner definitely prefers college guys
-
Hostetler drafted a bunch of big leaguers. Shirley has been much different so far in style but the owner wanted college players in the top 10. It always comes back to Jerry
-
Nope. I’m not sure he’s done anything to prove that he knows what he’s doing though. I’ve bemoaned the lack of prep players in those drafts for years. Overslotting college players in round 2 is dumb. Hostetler drafted quite a few big leaguers but very few stars. Jerry didn’t want to spend $6-$7 million on prep players at the top either. I heard that. Not sure when it is and some beat writers have told me they don’t believe it to be soon He didn’t draft Carson Fulmer. That was Doug Laumann’s parting gift. But yeah. Not great It’s a two way street. They draft poorly and don’t develop enough players consistently. He’s not an outsider at all. He’s worked for the White Sox for like 20 years. I have confidence in Mike Shirley. They need to completely clean house but Jerry is a coward and won’t do it. I just assume Getz will be the GM so Kenny Williams Jr can take over as farm director.
-
He’s earned it for overseeing the 28th ranked farm system in baseball! This org is such a joke. Nothing changes until Jerry sells or dies unfortunately. I disagree. Ken Williams isn’t going anywhere. If he’s employed at the top, you aren’t getting any good candidates regardless.
-
Was this reported somewhere?
-
I don’t think the big league deal part is true. My guess is a minors deal with a $2 million bonus.
-
I’m expecting him to finish there Yeah it’s just too hard to do unless you draft all high schoolers basically. DSL guys aren’t ready for Kannapolis
-
I just don’t see Pittsburgh taking Crews. Boras will want slot value at 1
-
I wrote a feature on Jacob Burke if anyone is interested: https://soxmachine.com/2023/04/white-sox-jacob-burke-is-out-to-prove-he-will-become-a-major-league-centerfielder/
-
I also think a next wave could be options for 2024 like Cristian Mena, Burke, Jonathan Cannon and Thompson
-
I’ll say: 1. TA 2. Robert CF 3. Jimenez DH 4. Vaughn 1B 5. Grandal C 6. Moncada 3B 7. Benintendi LF 8. Andrus 2B 9. Gonzalez I bet Colas sits tomorrow and Benintendi should be down in the order

It really was a nice, informative article. Schultz is fine but he’s basically starting in extended spring training.
