  1. They “talk” about controlling the strike zone but everything is based on swinging. I think that’s the core problem. They focus more on swinging at good pitches than not swinging at bad ones. It hasn’t worked. The Orioles and others teach swing decisions. For instance, on a 2-0 count, if a hitter in the minors swings at an outside slider and hits a single, the Orioles would call that a negative swing decision. I’m not so sure the White Sox would. Way too results oriented.
  2. You could argue that the later draft has benefitted from the players who are being picked. Everyone else hates it though. Scouting departments are already working on next year's draft due to the calendar as you know. It's just not necessary to have this thing in July
  3. It’s totally true. When is the last time a local guy broke something on Sox (that isn’t doing this as a hobby as a blogger)? When they trade Lucas Giolito, it’ll be a national guy with the story because it’s basically how pro sports works.
  4. That’s fair. I have no confidence that the White Sox org will maximize Morales. He has chase issues and doesn’t control the strike zone. They won’t fix those issues.
  5. I have no evidence that Jerry will let them offer the QO to Giolito. He didn't for Rodon. I think they can find someone better than the 70th pick in the draft at the deadline for Giolito.
  6. There’s just zero reason to take a college corner. If Houck and Nimmala are off the board, I’d much rather go Jacob Gonzalez or Matt Shaw than one of the college corners. If you’re willing to take a corner, take Aidan Miller. This isn’t that hard. Here’s how I see it right now: the consensus top five will be gone. Let’s also say that Kyle Teel, Enrique Bradfield, Noble Meyer, Rhett Lowder and Chase Dollander are also off the board. That leaves one of these five players for the White Sox: Colin Houck, Arjun Nimmala, Jacob Gonzalez, Matt Shaw and Aidan Miller. One of them should be the pick.
  7. They wouldn't be the last seed. They'd be the #3 seed and hosting the #6 seed at Guaranteed Rate Field
  8. I don't believe that is relevant. The Braves are awesome. Variance is a thing though. Get in the playoffs and you can win the title. We can disagree. I don't really care. I'm not going to debate it though because neither of us are going to change our minds.
  9. I actually disagree with this. If you get in the playoffs, you can win the title. Any baseball team can go on a heater and win a title. Getting in is still the hard part.
  10. Abraham Nunez had two more hits in DSL today too. He’s good.
  11. I don’t think he gets past Arizona
  12. Per Dan Victor of White Sox Daily. We confirmed at FutureSox. Guessing a Tim Anderson IL stint is coming.
  13. Exactly. Mike Shirley loved Tyler Soderstrom. Would you rather have him or Garrett Crochet right now?
  14. I mocked him in my latest. Usually I’m opposed to prep catching but the bat will play in an outfield corner so it’s worth it in my opinion. I’d prefer Houck, Miller or Nimmala still. Could be a college bat though. Someone will fall to them.
  15. Probably a dead arm period. They need to get him stretched out as much as possible because he’ll be starting next year imo. I’d start with using him as an opener for Lynn’s starts
  16. Noah Schultz should be pitching. Jacob Burke, Brooks Baldwin and Jordan Sprinkle. Eric Adler and Yohemy Nolasco in bullpen
  17. MLB Draft coverage will take a big step back without Fegan. The beats don’t care about it and it’s a tough time on the calendar
  18. Disagree. Lucas Giolito will bring back something significant. Kelly, Graveman and Middleton could bring back a decent return too.
  19. I like the guys and strategy. Schultz was a super high upside guy in 1st. But they followed it up with a high upside, injured college starter in Pallette and then insulated with more high floor pitching like Cannon and Schweitzer. Eric Adler is electric out of bullpen and he’ll be in majors if he throws strikes. Guys like Jacob Burke, Shane Murphy are interesting on day three too. I like that they mostly played it straight and didn’t punt like 4-10.
