Kopech called up
Literally the day I change my tune on this and believe Hahn is thinking big picture, they forgoe a season of control for a handful of starts in a meaningless season. I’m super excited to see Kopech up with the big league team, but boy does this decision feel bittersweet.

When will the White Sox be good?
Exactly. I have no doubt in my mind that if Moncada, Giolito, & Lopez all looked like sure-fire studs halfway through the season that Eloy & Kopech would have been up sometime in July. But that hasn’t happened, so it makes sense to slow things down and snag that extra year of team control for our two most important prospects. At the end of the day, the goal is sustainable success, not to simply be competitive by 2020. I get Hahn has a spotty track record at best, but we should all want Rick to remain patient and do this rebuild the right way even if that means the timeline gets extended by a year.

When will the White Sox be good?
There is absolutely zero reason for Hahn to publically announce a timeline other than to appease bitter fans who want to hold him accountable. The reality is the timeline is fluid and will change as guys develop and/or bust. We’re still way too early into the process to know with any level of certainty when the window will officially open. I’m sure they’re hoping internally for 2020 to be the first year of serious contention, but as has been mentioned in this thread multiple times, the first wave has developed slower than expected and that creates more uncertainty. And that uncertain is a big reason why it appears they won’t be calling up Jiménez & Kopech this year, which I applaud Rick for. No need to rush this rebuild in a half-ass attempt to hit some imaginary deadline.

Who says no? Carlos Rodon & Kevan Smith for AJ Puk, Sean Murphy, & Lazaro Armenteros.

We’ve had 10 picks in the first three rounds of the last three drafts and seven of them have been position players. Almost all our big LatAm signings have been positional players. If it weren’t for the Eaton trade, this false notion that our rebuild has been pitching based wouldn’t exist.

When will the White Sox be good?
Depends on how the first wave of guys are doing. Right now we have no idea what we have in Moncada, Lopez, & Giolito. If those guys take massive leaps next year and Jiménez, Kopech, Burdi, & Hamilton are as good as expected, we should easily be competitive by 2020. If not, we’re waiting on the next wave of guys to arrive and go through their growing pains.

Moncada was wearing glasses yesterday but I haven’t found anything online to suggest whether it was related to a temporary eye issue or just general poor eyesight. I do know he considered wearing glasses full time earlier this year but decided not to after a recommendation by Tim. Also, agree 100% with the rest of your post. I can’t even imagine trying to hit Major League stuff without 20/20 vision.

Please be wearing glasses again Yoan. I really want to believe eyesight has been an issue.

Filth
And I’m going to keep saying it, but Fangraphs NOT ranking Ian Hamilton as a 40 grade prospect is an absolutely joke.

I think it’s a bit unfair to call Johnson “polished” relative to Burdi given the huge difference in competition they’ve each faced. Burdi was given an incredibly aggressive assignment out of the gate, while Johnson has been handled with kids gloves. And I say this as a HUGE Tyler Johnson fan. I just think Tyler would be walking as many batters as Burdi if facing AAA hitters right now.

40 Man Roster Issues
The Sox aren’t keeping four catchers on the 40 man roster IMO. Smith will most likely be traded. I fully expect one of Tilson, Engel, & Cordell to be moved, with Tilson the most likely candidate. I also expect one of of the Davidson, Palka, & Delmonico trio to be moved.

You need to STFU & think before saying shit that isn’t true. Implying the Sox’s rebuild has been pitching focused or we lack high-end positional talent is quite frankly a bold faced lie. Moncada (BA #2 - 2016) Anderson (BA #45 - 2015) Jimenez (BA #3 / MP #3 / FG #3) Robert (BA #46 / MP #25 / FG #20) Madrigal (BA #30 / MP #32 / FG #23) Collins (FG #67) Rutherford (MP #88) Adolfo (FG #88 / KL top 50 HM) Basabe (FG #84) That’s nine guys who placed on a top 100 list. That doesn’t include our top three picks from the 2017 draft or our 2nd round pick from this year’s draft. All four of those guys have a chance to make one those lists in the future, with Gonzalez being a real possibility this offseason. There is a ton of positional talent in the organization and it’s an essential part of the rebuild no matter how you try to spin things.

Race for the worst 2018 record (Top 5 pick) again
Great post. No reason to root for losses at this point when the possible range of outcomes is 3rd to 5th pick. Might as well cheer for wins and see where things stand near the end of the season. That’s when I’ll start rooting for losses if it makes a difference in draft position.
