  1. Agree. I think Mac Horvath would theoretically make more sense for both sides given 3B seems to be pretty accounted for you guys. And he’s a guy who could transition to the OF if given the time in our system.
  2. I would find it very shocking for a team to proactively tell a prospect that they won’t be traded. If this dude is making that claim, then I’d say his credibility is highly in question.
  3. For the record, this signing has no material impact on anything and any whining is more so due to a questionable move potentially signaling a front office with a possibly questionable vision of what a winning White Sox club might look like. I hope this is all a big nothing, but given Getz is a massive wild card and wasn’t vetted against other candidates, so every little move is going to be looked at under a microscope in hopes of understanding his greater plan.
  4. Lol…what part of my comments are disingenuous? The part where I called out your analysis for pretending Covid never happened or the part where I pointed out that there is a concept called the time value of money?
  5. And I totally get the DeJong signing. Need a cheap placeholder at SS so you don’t feel rushed into promoting Montgomery before he is ready. And for $1M over the rookie minimum, I think having a veteran is worth it. Meanwhile, this Hill dude is best case scenario pitching like 50 total innings and offers zero upside whatsoever. Paying $1.8M for him vs. any scrap heap waiver wire add or AAAA free agent with some stuff but no control makes no sense to me. But at least he will help make Grifol’s job easier by not having to be a leader.
  6. Any random waiver wire pickup would have more upside than this. But I’m sure this dude flashes some leather and is great in the clubhouse.
  7. I’m starting to worry that Harold…I mean Getz is in a bit over his head on this roster building thing. Like WTF does this move accomplish? I didn’t think I could be disappointed with this signing after predicting Amir Garrett but alas he we are with one most puzzling moves in my history as a White Sox fan.
  8. Thank god Getz went outside the organization and hired Gene Watson or else we would have never thought of signing the Dallas Keuchel of relievers.
  9. To be fair, the deal that James highlighted was a Hahn ask that involved no pitching. Hopefully Getz is bluffing on being tied to SP, but right now a Cowser + Ortiz led package goes the general rumors.
  10. The reality is at some point the Cease sweepstakes will turn into a blind bidding process and you will the lose this theoretical leverage to “pay the least amount possible” since you won’t know how much that will be. Oftentimes, it becomes a game of chicken and in this particular case it will come down to who is willing to bet the most on Cease being closer to his 2022 form. As for receiving 3 or 4 pieces, I’m not sure that matters all that much outside of the optics. For Getz, he probably will want a third piece at minimum to help diversify some of the risk and have a better chance of at least hitting on one guy, but at the end of the day it’s all about total value of the package. But for the most part, I don’t think Elias will have a problem throwing in some lottery tickets outside of your top 30 to get a deal done.
  11. To be fair, it look old man Angelos having a stroke and his trust fund kid to come in and hire a modern leader. Unfortunately for us, Jerry’s trust fund kid would stick with Getz and simply buy the analytics staff second monitors.
  12. I think theoretically this is simply about getting some of the young pitchers ready for 2025 & beyond. Have the vesting details been shared yet?
  13. Ok, so it sounds like Kjerstad, Ortiz, & Povich should be an easy “yes” for you guys given the endless amount of talent you now have. Also, don’t forget about the three first round picks you get in next year’s draft ?
  14. Sorry if my response came off aggressive, but that analysis is very manipulative between the Covid reduced payroll in 2020 and the massive difference in the time value of money between now and the early 2000’s.
  15. As much as it pains me to say it, it makes sense though. Without being able to actually tank, trading for low level minor leaguers is counterproductive to an extent. They need to time an influx of prospects along with multiple free agent signings to turn this around quickly and that seems to be their plan starting as soon as next off-season. This year is unfortunately about letting the KW / Hahn rot gradually work its way out of the organization.
  16. For your second question, I’d say that take a payroll figure from the early 2000’s and basically double it.
  17. Sure, if you ignore it was a partial season and players were only paid a prorated salary (~37% for most players).
  18. What post are you referring to?
  19. What it sounds like to me based on the various leaks, Hahn asked for a Holliday led package until it was too late and may have pivoted to the proposal that you highlighted. Not sure if that jives with what you have heard, but Orioles fans seem to be under a similar impression.
  20. What kind of return did Giolito bring?
  21. I believe Balta is some sort of rock scientist, so not sure he’s been in a results based working environment when results have gone soft. Regardless of the profession, it’s incredibly common for people to lose motivation / focus when it does happen.
  22. It’s wild that a board of Orioles fan can understand how pitching last season in a s%*# environment could impact Dylan’s result whereas as a Sox fan who should have witnessed this s%*#-show firsthand finds it incomprehensible.
