But there is a lot of good HS arms and having $2.4M in additional slot and the #39 would allow us to be more aggressive in that area. A guy like Ryan Sloan probably becomes a much more realistic target with those extra dollars and that’s a super exciting addition at the cost of Kopech (but maybe I’m biased here).

Seems like the perfect time to trade for a draft pick since you now know who might be available when and for how much. And I get it’s a bad draft, but that doesn’t mean talent won’t be available at #39. That $2.4M in slot value the pick comes with would allow us to a lot of cool stuff with five picks we’d theoretically in the top 78. Obviously it all comes down to the cost, but an org top 5 prospect and the #39 pick (even a bad draft) seems like an absolutely incredible outcome in a Kopech trade.

This would have been an insane return for Kopech who are both controllable through 2025, have similar fastball velocities (although Kopech kills him in Stuff+), but Michael has a slightly better xERA.

They will eventually sign some guys for up to $100M each. Obviously anything beyond that is probably unlikely with Reinsdorf alive.

That’s a good question. To me, next year is going to be a massive transitional season with many of our better prospects getting their first real opportunity. It probably won’t be pretty overall but my guess is it will be better than the s%*# show that is the 2024 season. I think they spend some money, but the more impactful signings probably don’t happen until the following offseason.

I think they want a CF though and that ain’t Pham even if we’re playing him there.

I think the plan would be make him an opener for two months and then ramp him back up to a starter before the playoffs. Two NL GMs that Jim Bowden talked to who have interest in Crochet said as much. And I think that plan could potentially work, although it certainly comes with risk. That being said, there is no player available who could have a potentially bigger impact in October than Crochet. If you’re confident in what you have to make the playoffs, he’s the ultimate World Series swing for GMs with big balls.

Yes, I think it’s all but a certainty that a lot of these guys start reaching next year, many probably in May or June. But I could see Baldwin in the Opening Day mix and so will some of the other pitchers who will likely be called up after the deadline.

Sounds like his opinion more than something he’s actually heard. Not 100% going for it when you have a real chance doesn’t sound like Dombrowski to me.

Baltimore gets competitive balance picks which makes a world of a difference in “drafting studs later”.

He was awesome in 2021 as a reliever and the stuff is still there…need a couple of teams that think they can fix him and we can something interesting.
