Offseason Targets
You think Nick Madrigal is not a good defender based off what exactly?

Tony La Russa named Manager
Who you got in mind?

This is definitely a SoxTalk member

Ray, I really enjoy your contributions to the board, but you have no idea if Hahn is on board with a TLR hire. And based on what he said at his end of season press conference, he would not be on board with this hire.

Would Hinch cost more than La Russa? And is the coward thing him being afraid to hire a guy who cheated?

Sox leaks have been pretty bad the last couple years. The only person I truly trust is Jimmy and he heard Hinch was Hahn’s guy. Obviously he could have been overruled by Reinsdorf, but Jerry has never forced a manager on his front office and I can’t see any reason Hahn would want TLR after he described what he was looking for at the end of season press conference. I’m sure I’ll look like an idiot tomorrow, but I still think the Sox are pushing this narrative to either gain leverage in their negotiations with Hinch or to mask their interest in Hinch from other clubs.

Call me crazy, but I still think it will be Hinch.

God help us all.

You’re telling me casual Bears fan wouldn’t be overly excited about a Ditka reunion? Chicago loves their “legends” for better or worse.

Oh I bet Hahn does and hopefully he’s reading this thread right now & realizing how fucked he is if Reinsdorf forces TLR on him.

I doubt Jerry Reinsdorf is reading message boards

And yet my 70 year old father was all excited about the notion...I guess we’re in a draw ?♂️

No way

Sure, more coverage = more fan engagement = more money in a normal environment.

I mean, a sizable portion of our fanbase would love to see Guillen back despite quiting on the team and generally being a selfish asshole near the end. Not sure why a causal fan would hate us bringing in a Hall of Fame manger with past ties to the organization. I think some of you are giving casual Sox fans too much credit here.

Casual Sox fan? Who would they prefer? I’m sure they would prefer La Russa over Hinch.
-
Tony La Russa named Manager
While I’d prefer we go in a different direction, the causal Sox fan would love a La Russa hiring and it would be make us the focus of a ton of media coverage over the next 12 months.

He had never pitched above High A when we acquired him. His value has probably slipped some over the past year, but he still has proven himself against upper minor competition and he showed his plus stuff was back when he was in spring training this year. His value is definitely higher now then it was back then IMO.

That would make a ton more sense.

Think about what we got in return for Sale in comparison. Yes, Moncada was a far better prospect than Vaughn, but Kopech’s value has skyrocketed since then so while this deGrom package would be light it’s not that far off. However, the difference in surplus value given Sale’s contract is astronomical. It would be a terrible trade for us IMO, especially in this economic environment.

Have you seen the Diamondbacks’ track record under TLR?

Only makes sense if they see Jirschele as the long term and plan to give him two years as the bench coach before being handed the reigns.

So Harold is basically implying Reinsdorf & KW want La Russa and don’t give a fuck what Hahn thinks. I truly believe Harold has access to inside info, but I call bullshit on all of this. If they were going to force La Russa on Hahn it would already be done by now...they wouldn’t make Hahn go through a charade of an interview process.

Offseason Targets
Ok, but that’s not what I’m arguing. And calling a GM a “middle manager” is pretty ridiculous.

Worked in management? What in the world are you talking about? A GM that is being forced to hire the owner’s long-time buddy to manage his team clearly doesn’t have the proper influence or decision making authority to be successful and would likely quit. I don’t care what badass job you think you had that makes you feel otherwise, but you are wrong here. A manager who doesn’t get to hire their direct reports is only a manager in title. It’s really that simple. And when has Jerry ever forced a manager on one of his GMs? The only thing even remotely close was the Guillen situation and he ultimately sided with KW. For fuck’s sake, he let Hawk fire La Russa years ago and supported Krause at the expense of Jackson. I’m sure Jerry is involved in the decision-making process, but he’s not going to force his front office to hire certain people.
