Wait what? In this market? Plenty of dudes will be taking one year deals. Weren’t you just clamoring for Kluber? Paxton will be taking a one year deal. Richards could be an option.

Zero reason to add another starter to a multi year deal at this point if you have any hopes / plans of extending Lynn.

I think it depends on the amount of off-days, but realistically the #4 starter is probably getting two starts Max as you won’t need them in the Wild Card round and will likely skip them whenever possible.

It depends on his innings obviously. And I think Cease takes a major leap next year under Katz and cements himself in that #4 spot.

100% agree. And let’s be honest, Kopech will likely be in the bullpen as well if we make the playoffs next year. And maybe it won’t be 2021, but I still believe Burdi has the chance to become an elite reliever in time. His stuff is beyond phenomenal, just needs to learn how to harness it. But imagine this pen come October: 9th: Hendriks 8th: Bummer* 8th: Kopech 7th: Crochet* 7th: Heuer 6th: Marshall 6th: Fry* 6th: Foster Plus you’d also potentially have Lopez, Burdi, Johnson, Lambert, Cordero, & possibly even Stiever in the mix as well. That’s potentially a best-in-class bullpen you’re looking at there.

In 2022? And so we’re paying Brantley $12M+ to be a rotation / backup piece in LF & DH. Who is our RF in this scenario?

Because payroll is a constrained resource and Brantley can’t play RF.

Brantley is getting a multi-year contract at $12M+ per year. Schwarber will likely get 1/$7M or less.

I don’t think we sign Schwarber, but if we’re willing to push back Vaughn’s start date with us to 2022 (assuming everyone is both healthy & producing) I think he’d be highly interested in signing with us. And the cost would probably be like $7M on a one year deal.

When every pitcher abandons their curve when it’s their best secondary coming up through the minors, it’s pretty easy to blame on Cooper.

Hopefully the first order of business for Katz is letting every arm that abandoned their curveball under Cooper bring it back.
