  1. If Jon Link turns out to be a decent bullpen arm, Mackowiak for him will look good.
  2. QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 05:17 PM) That's the complete opposite of what happened. Porcello was practically running away and Youk's momentum brought them both down. I agree, and none of Porcello's teammates got between them until it was too late. They just stood there and watched.
  3. Boston skipper just got ejected. Whos next?
  4. Porcello thrown out of the game with 15 pitches thrown. Now's the time for Boston to come back and beat these kittys.
  5. Youkilis threw his helmet at him. HAHA
  6. Porcello nailed Youkilis and he charged the mound and took him down. Classic.
  7. KW sounds like if this rotation works - the OF and the DH, it could continue on into next year.
  8. 5 Years - 58.7 million or w/ option 6 years 72.2 million.
  9. So who was scouting this guy? Is it possible another move is coming?
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) You're kidding, right...? No I am not. That is pretty accurate. On the first one i gave AJ 2 more earned runs accidentally, but the second one is right.
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 05:27 PM) You posted that twice. Actually the first one was without todays game, and the second one included todays game. Just updated it.
  12. CHICAGO -- A fifth starter won't be needed by the White Sox again until Aug. 18, at home against the Royals. But when that time comes around, don't look for D.J. Carrasco to move over from his valuable middle-relief role or rookie Carlos Torres to make his third start this season. Instead, the White Sox might go back to the future and turn to Freddy Garcia, although Ozzie Guillen certainly wasn't committing to anything during the manager's Sunday pregame chat with the media. "Freddy's on the way up, I'll be honest with you. I'm not going to hide anything from you guys," said Guillen of his close friend and basically family member, working his way back through Minor League starts. "He's throwing real well. "I'm not saying Freddy's going to be the next guy, he's not. But the way he's pitching right now, we like that. I think Freddy needs a couple more starts in the Minor Leagues still." Garcia, who turns 33 on Oct. 6, has made one start for Class A Kannapolis and two for Bristol's rookie team since re-joining the White Sox. The crafty right-hander has allowed two runs on nine hits and just one walk over 14 innings pitched combined, striking out 10. In his last start on Aug. 6, Garcia fanned five over a rehab assignment-high six innings, as he continued to build up arm strength. Guillen said everything is better across the board with Freddy, with his velocity topping out at 91 mph, but still is keeping the possibility of his return at a low-key level of enthusiasm. "As long as Freddy is healthy, Freddy can go out there and survive," Guillen said. "But I'm not very optimistic about it. I'm just saying Freddy got better." Discussions concerning Garcia have taken place between Guillen and pitching coach Don Cooper, but they haven't talked yet with general manager Ken Williams about the situation. Guillen also hasn't talked directly with his friend during this rehab assignment. "No. Every time I talk to Freddy, he wants to pitch here," said Guillen with a laugh. "He's feeling very good. One thing about Freddy, he's not going to lie to this organization. I don't think Freddy is going to lie to me or Coop, because he knows how much we appreciate him, how much we like him."
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) I would guess the odds are about 85/15 against offering Dotel arbitration, so we won't get any picks there. Contreras and Thome will definitely not be offered arbitration...and JD's situation is the biggest question mark for 2010. Figgins will undoubtedly be a Type A FA, correct? So that would mean two lost draft picks...depending on the team that signed him, other FA losses for the Angels (Vladdy, Abreu, etc.), the cost alone for the contract is a huge risk, then figuring in the loss of a couple of higher draft picks, it's just not worth it. If it was Chone Figgins at 26-27 years old and coming into the prime of his career (like Rios), you pull the trigger. In this case...no. Figgins is a borderline Type A as of August 1st. I think we will offer arbitration to Dotel, and if he accepts, we will trade him. Bullpen arms will be valuable in the offseason. 14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) Could someone please post Jose's splits when AJ and Castro are catching him? post #25
  15. This season: 8 Games with Castro: Contreras is 4-4, 53.2 IP, 41 Hits allowed, 17 earned runs allowed, 43 K, 15 walks, 2.88 ERA 9 Games with AJ: Contreras is 0-7, 43.2 IP, 56 Hits allowed, 38 earned runs allowed, 30 K, 24 walks, 7.91 ERA We should have Castro catch his next game and take it from there.
  16. 2.88 ERA with Castro in 8 games compared to 8.31 ERA with AJ in 8 games, Ozzie should look at these numbers and only allow Castro to catch Contreras.
  17. Castro should catch this guy every game for the rest of the year as far as Im concerned! Numbers like those make me angry.
  18. 8 Games with Castro: Contreras is 4-4, 53.2 IP, 41 Hits allowed, 17 earned runs allowed, 43 K, 15 walks, 2.88 ERA before todays game with AJ (8 Games) Contreras is 0-6, 39 IP, 50 Hits allowed, 36 earned runs allowed, 28 K, 22 walks, 8.31 ERA Clearly better with Castro.
  19. Contreras should only be pitching when Castro is catching. It seemed like the games Castro covered the plate, Jose pitched good.
  20. My opinion on this is, if we do get Rios, next year we will keep Thome and Dye and rotate them much like we will the rest of this year. Pods, Quentin, Rios, Dye, and Thome for 4 spots. I just have a feeling management will end up doing this option as a "just in case" Quentin gets hurt again. If we do make the playoffs and this is a recipe for success, I can see them repeating this again for another year.
