  1. somebody posted on mlbtr that they were watching the blue jays vs orioles game and claims they said they heard the white sox claimed him.
  2. not sure how reliable but: Alex Rios on his way out of TO? 5 teams have made waiver claims for Rios giving the Jays a perfect chance to get 65million off the books http://twitter.com/GlennSchiiler
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) Why would they? Porcello's turned it around these past few starts and they have Washburn now. Galarraga's probably better than Smoltz at this point. Drafted by the Tigers, from the Michigan area. He would be a fit for the bullpen, not as a starter. They really have no bullpen up in Detroit. Long awaited homecoming if you ask me.
  4. So when will we find out who made the claim? I would actually be pretty excited if we claimed him.
  5. Wouldnt be surprised if the Tigers picked him up.
  6. If the Blue Jays are gonna give him away, the White Sox should trade for him for this playoff run and trade him in the offseason, to the Giants maybe, for a better package then what we would give up for him in the first place.
  7. A waiver claim has been placed on Toronto Blue Jays right fielder Alex Rios, according to MLB sources. At a time when most teams have very little financial flexibility, it could be within the realm of possibility that the Blue Jays will consider a trade of Rios, who still has six years remaining on a seven-year, $69.35 million contract he agreed to in April of 2008, or simply waive him to the team that claimed him. Alex Rios #15 RF Toronto Blue Jays 2009 STATS GM 105 HR 12 RBI 58 R 50 OBP .315 AVG .261 It is not yet known which team has been awarded the claim on Rios, but it may well be that Rios is on his way out of Toronto, one way or the other, because the Blue Jays may embrace the opportunity to shed his contract -- much in the same way that the Blue Jays unexpectedly allowed the San Diego Padres to take reliever Randy Myers in a waiver claim more than a decade ago. The Blue Jays, it appears, have three options, and must make a decision by next Tuesday, because the waiver period will roll through the weekend: • They could work out a trade with the team that claimed Rios. • They could pull him back from waivers, and keep him for themselves the rest of this season. • They could simply allow the team that claimed him to take him, at no cost. Undoubtedly, the decision to place a waiver claim on Rios will stun rival executives, at a time when the prices on free agent outfielders has plummeted. The most lucrative deals for corner outfielders in the most recent offseason -- other than Manny Ramirez -- were for Raul Ibanez, for three years and $31.5 million, and Milton Bradley, for three years and $30 million. "That's an incredible opportunity for the Blue Jays to get out from underneath that contract," said one team official. Part of the reason why the Blue Jays had considered trading Roy Halladay is the lack of payroll flexibility into the future, created in part by their obligation to Rios. Rios, 28, is batting .261 with 12 homers and 58 RBI this season. He has never had an OPS higher than .865, and currently has an OPS of .728. Rios is making $5.9 million this season, and he is set to earn salaries of $9.7 million in 2010, $12 million in 2011, $12 million in 2012, $12.5 million in 2013, and $12.5 million in 2014. The Jays hold a club option on Rios of $13.5 million for 2015, with a $1 million buyout. The San Francisco Giants have been looking for outfield help all season, and just 20 months ago, they mulled a possible swap of Tim Lincecum for Rios. The New York Mets also have been looking for help that won't cost them significant prospects, but leading up to the trade deadline, they hadn't expressed much willingness to take on a major salary. Rios's contract would cost any team that acquired him about $2 million for the rest of this year. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4384253 Wonder who it could be?
  8. If Wagner is healthy, and if the Mets would pay his whole salary + buyout next year, I would give them Carlos Torres and/or Wes Whisler. They need pitching and can have these guys for a healthy Wagner.
  9. The Nationals added players to their Triple A Syracuse roster on Thursday, acquiring first baseman Daryle Ward and outfielder Norris Hopper from Triple A Charlotte, a White Sox affiliate. This is Ward's second stint in the Nationals organization. He played for the Major League club in 2006, hitting .308 with six home runs and 19 RBIs before being traded to the Braves on Aug. 31 of that year. Ward was hitting .255 with eight home runs and 36 RBIs for Charlotte. In stints with Triple A Louisville and Charlotte, Hopper was hitting a combined .293 with 25 RBIs. http://therocket.mlblogs.com/archives/2009...ard_hopper.html Clearing space for the Cubans I hope?
  10. QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 06:44 PM) what about Rich Harden? Some team will give Harden a multi year deal. My preference would be to sign someone to a 1 year deal, and I doubt teams will be offering multi year deals to Sheets or Duchscherer. I would offer a multi year deal only to Erik Bedard, if the price was right. John Lackey will be too pricey.
  11. I'd rather sign Ben Sheets or Justin Duchscherer to a 1 year deal. They will both be out to prove themselves next year and both would not be a bad #5 at all.
  12. Anybody know where I can find a live feed for todays game, i get the dodgers/braves game today, not interested in this one.
  13. Im hoping Jhonny Nunez ends up helping us in the future, because Betemit sucked and Marquez doesnt look too hot either.
  14. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:27 PM) Wouldn't that be the second year in a row with a sub-par team that no trades were made? It seems we made all of our moves b4 the deadline - Kotsay, Castro, Pena. Maybe we can pull something off in the final minutes. Last year we got Griffey. I liked the move at the time and still do.
  15. QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) bring back Garland, but only if a deal for Halladay is too costly Trade with the same team, but for Doug Davis instead.
  16. I actually like this deal for the Mariners, I feel like Washburn will come back down to earth, and the Tigers really dont have much pitching left in their minor leagues. Luke French looked decent but Robles looks pretty good so far. Now the question will be if the Tigers offer Washburn arbitration and if he accepts? It will be close to 1 year 10 million. It will be interesting to see. I figure he could get a better deal somewhere else though.
  17. I really like this trade for Oakland. O-Cab cannot be offered arbitration after this year so the Twins will get no pick from him after the year ends. Ladendorf was a second round pick last year so he must have potential.
  18. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 07:41 PM) Plus, Detroit just DFA'd Josh Anderson, so if all else fails, you could get him and maybe a low level pitcher for Fields. Josh Anderson went to the Royals.
  19. ChiSox interested in Orioles' Sherrill — 7:38 p.m. George Sherrill: '09 stats George Sherrill Baltimore Orioles Relief pitcher -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- G W-L S ERA K BB 42 0-1 20 2.40 39 13 The White Sox have some degree of interest in Orioles lefty George Sherrill, major league sources indicated Wednesday, but it's unclear if the sides have had any serious talks. Baltimore prefers to get a third baseman in return for Sherrill, and Chicago may have enough infield depth that general manager Kenny Williams could include Josh Fields in the deal. Fields, once a highly-regarded prospect, came up through the minors as a third baseman but was replaced there by Gordon Beckham last month. Fields, batting .220, has since become a part-time player. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9866498...day%27s-edition
  20. What if the Phillies saved those other prospects and use those to trade for Halladay now? They still have enough to make the trade IMO.
  21. This guy actually had a real good spring training from what I can remember. I hope he can help us out and eat some innings.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:06 AM) haha, I love these types of analysis. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) Agreed, everyone is a so called "expert". That is the fun of propsects, they are pretty much hit or miss. For every Scott Ruffcorn, there is a Clayton Richard. Haha Carrasco just reminds me alot of Gio - lot of so called talent but will end up being a bust. Donald - I just dont think he will be a starter in this league. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) Its one thing to trade for a Happ, who has proven he can pitch in the majors, or even Drabek, who is at AAA and so close. Knapp is 18 years old, and I dont care how highly touted he is, he is still a LONG way from the majors, and a lot of weird stuff can happen, like injuries, or it can just turn out he was overrated the whole time. Said perfectly on Knapp. Happ or Drabek wouldve been a much better return. This just doesnt scare me at all for the future of the Indians.
