  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 10:51 AM) This deal was pretty much what the Jays asked for minus Happ. Then they basically replaced Drabek with Knapp. Good deal for Cleveland. They got a lot out of Lee. I feel the exact opposite, Knapp may not be ready for a couple years, Carrasco and Donald are overrated, and Moreno may be decent. Seems like they kept their top prospects and made the smart trade for Lee and not for Halladay, who wouldve cost a ton. And they got Francisco as a throw in. Great trade for the Phils.
  2. MINNEAPOLIS - The White Sox signed second-round pick Trayce Thompson, an outfielder from Santa Margarita High School in Southern California. Several Southern California sources confirmed Thompson will receive a $625,000 bonus. Thompson was considered a tough sign before the draft because of his commitment to UCLA, but the Sox's scouts spent several hours with Thompson, his family and advisers. Thompson's father Mychal was the first pick in the 1978 NBA draft, and two older brothers play basketball at Pepperdine and Washington State. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....k-thompson.html
  3. Fields will be traded next, Kotsay will take his place as backup 1b
  4. This is just clearing another roster spot for after this year, kindof like the same thing we did when we traded broadway for castro.
  5. Numerous sources have confirmed that the Seattle Mariners are in intense discussions with the Tampa Bay Rays and the Cleveland Indians for a deal that would send Ray’s ace Scott Kazmir to Seattle. From the looks of things, Seattle would acquire Kazmir and short stop prospect Reid Brignac from the Rays. The Rays would then receive 2008 Cy Young award pitcher Cliff Lee from the Indians and Seattle would send Brandon Morrow and Jeff Clement to Cleveland to complete the trade. http://www.nextseasonsports.com/2009/07/ma...be-seattle.html News broke today about a rumored three team swap brewing between the Cleveland Indians, Tampa Bay Rays, and Seattle Mariners. The Mariners proceeded to get blasted 10-3, hardly a feat that leads to a blockbuster swap. Now 7.5 games out it appears the deal is on hold unless Seattle can at least improve in both the division and wild card races. With the Blue Jays coming up they will have to likely take three of their next four games to convince management to pull the trigger. Losing these last two were a huge blow no doubt, but they have a week to rebound, and it is not out the question that if they can take four of their next six games that it might push management towards "buying". The swap had the principle players M's P Brandon Morrow, and C Jeff Clement, among others going to the Indians, Cleveland ace Cliff Lee, among others heading to Tampa Bay, and the Mariners snagging Tampa Bay ace Scott Kazmir, and INF Reed Brignac. If the M's can gain some ground (making it comfortable to buy), and the Kazmir deal still has some smoldering coals about it, I say pull the trigger. Morrow has plain and simple been a disaster, Clement has not been a No. 3 pick, and whatever throw in they put forward will likely be nothing more then a AA player. Kazmir has been less then stellar this season with a 6.68 ERA, but so were David Aardsma, Russell Branyan, and Co. before they made Seattle a winning team amidst a clear Bavasi cleansing and rebuilding process. Adding Kazmir would give the M's a rotation of King Felix, Bedard, Washburn, Kazmir, and Ryan Rowland Smith/Jason Vargas while giving up two players who are not positively contributing towards much of anything for the team. Morrows ship has sunk and Clement has not made an impact at the MLB level yet. The swap would still leave them ammunition to pursue a much needed upgrade at SS. With Gold Glove 3B Adrian Beltre coming back in two weeks if the Mariners can add a SS and Kazmir they would be geared for a playoff push. If the M's should start winning before July 31st, you can bet more rumors like this are going to be popping up. Lets hope they can rally the troops before the deadline, this next week is their most crucial so far this season. http://www.seatownsports.net/2009/07/seatt...-talks-for.html Big trade. Seems if Kazmir comes back to form, everybody wins in this trade.
  6. Nix is great with the glove, maybe can't hit for a high average, but does show plate discipline. Josh Fields may have a better bat, but defensively is a liability. But Josh does backup PK and that will be his role for now, unless GB or PK get hurt, or if he gets traded. I would like to keep both on this team for now because they both are good in the roles Ozzie has put them in.
  7. Cliff Lee would be a great pickup if we could flip Dotel for prospects that the Indians want, and then replace Dotel with Sherrill.
  8. That is gonna be a mean 1-2 punch in St. Louis. Will be interesting to see who the fourth team in the playoffs will be in the NL. Cardinals, Dodgers, and Phillies seem like locks to me.
  9. Seems to me Oakland got a better return for Holliday than what they gave up in the offseason.
  10. QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) Who do you all see as his main competition? Hernandez? Greinke? Halladay? Maybe Jered Weaver? Add Josh Beckett and CC Sabathia to that list and that is the competition this year.
  11. And the Twins lose in the 10th. Great day for the White Sox today!
  12. Joe Nathan just blew a 5-3 lead in the 9th. The hit that tied the game was actually pretty funny, the ball was coming and the infielder was gonna make the play on it, but the ball hit the base and bounced funny and the Angels tie the game. Extra innings up in Anaheim. Go Angels!
  13. Yea I agree, Andrew Lambo is a stud and we would probably have to give up alot, another player I can see the Sox having interest in is Javy Guerra. He's got a pretty good arm. I'm not sure what else we would be looking for at the AA affiliate for the Dodgers. But Lambo would be sweet!
  14. Another great thing about today is no bullpen was used so we should be fresh for tomorrow and the rest of the weekend with the Tigers. One more quick note: How big of a pickup was Castro? He seems to have brought the good Jose Contreras back and today being the catcher for Buehrle. Maybe the best unnoticed pickup of the whole year.
  15. John Lannon would be a perfect fit for our Sox.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 10:37 PM) Chris Young as 4th outfielder? I don't even know if I'm kidding. Chris Young was one of the nicer guys that I have met. Unfortunately, he is just not performing and getting overpaid. I think at this point, Wise is a better option. I think I would like to trade for Doug Davis. He's not too bad, but he's a flyball pitcher and I'm just not sure how he would do at the Cell.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 10:27 PM) Could this city handle the Cuban Connection? That would be a heck of a sigh to see. Maybe the plan is to collect the Cubans and go hard after Aroldis Chapman in the offseason? Im just dreaming now.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 09:59 PM) According to tomorrow's Tribune, the Diamondbacks had scouts at our game today. The clubs obviously know a lot about each other. Not sure who KW would be interested in on Arizona (Haren's going nowhere). You guys think they were there to scout Torres? Qualls is probably who KW is interested in. Maybe Doug Davis or Chad Tracy? Max Scherzer would be nice but pricey. Justin Upton? I think I should keep dreaming on that one.
  19. Manny hit his first pinch hit home run which happened to also be a grand slam on the first pitch off none other than Nick Masset. LOL
  20. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 10:49 AM) theres a halladay thread in trade winds, i dont think another one is necessary..? Sorry, I wasnt sure what the espn insider said, but I understood it as we got denied in our bid. So I thought that deserved its own thread and we could move on from here.
  21. Its on the front page. Anyone have any info? http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...soxnt22.article
