Baltimore and Atlanta scouting the ChiSox last night?
prochisox replied to prochisox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 05:49 PM) Jim Fregosi, a special assistant to the Braves GM, is at the game tonight. What would we be wanting from the Braves? Is Yunel Escobar a realistic target? Tommy Hanson? probably not. Jordan Schafer? Jason Heyward? The real question would be what would the Braves want from us? Did Clayton's performance help us in any way for a trade? -
Baltimore and Atlanta scouting the ChiSox last night?

I figure that Baltimore and Atlanta wanted to see Josh Fields, thats why he was starting last night. -
White Sox don't appear to be in trade mode With Carlos Quentin back, Bartolo Colon and Freddy Garcia on the way, team may be set July 21, 2009 The White Sox likened the return of Carlos Quentin on Monday to acquiring a top slugger. But with pitcher Bartolo Colon tentatively scheduled to return Friday and Freddy Garcia returning possibly by mid-August, there is some sense that the Sox might have enough reinforcements not to make a deal before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. "Players, when it comes to those [trade] rumors and all that kind of stuff, it affects us the least out of everybody," Paul Konerko said. "You deal with who you have at that time and you know if you sit there and you start worrying about ... if we get this guy ... you're going to personally drop the ball yourself that night. It's kind of off limits to players." Representatives from Baltimore and Atlanta attended the Sox's game Monday night against Tampa Bay. Meanwhile, Clayton Richard's start Tuesday night could dictate the shape of the Sox's pitching staff, as could fellow left-hander Aaron Poreda's control issues as a reliever. After the Tampa Bay series, the Sox won't rely on their left-handers this weekend at Detroit as much as next week at Minnesota. But left-handed reliever Matt Thornton is on call because his wife, Emily, is expecting the couple's first child on July 31. But from a long-term view, pitching coach Don Cooper believes Garcia, a 2005 World Series hero, might need only four starts in the minors before returning to the majors. Garcia will throw another bullpen session Thursday after impressing manager Ozzie Guillen and Cooper during a 45-pitch session Monday. "The words that he used -- 'I haven't felt this good, I have no pain' -- that's music to my ears," Cooper said. The demotion of outfielder Brian Anderson to Triple-A Charlotte apparently means the Sox are set in the field, with Dewayne Wise serving as the backup outfielder and Jayson Nix and Josh Fields as reserve infielders. It also means the Sox feel secure with Quentin despite his feeling occasional soreness in his left foot after completing a rehab assignment at Charlotte. "This is the big leagues," Quentin said. "An inch here is pretty big and [could] cost a game, so I needed to make sure I could perform up to standards that would allow any circumstances like that to not come into play." Rest before Sox: Garcia admitted his first choice was to go home and rest his shoulder after the Mets released him following only two minor-league starts. "I needed that for my shoulder to relax and recover," Garcia said after his bullpen session. "I wasn't ready to go play because my shoulder bothered me, so it was better to relax." Garcia said he didn't hear from teams for more than a month before his agent spoke with the Sox about signing a minor-league contract that gave him more time to strengthen his shoulder. Extra innings: The Tigers' preliminary rotation is set up so that the Sox will face Justin Verlander in one of the games Friday, followed by Edwin Jackson on Saturday and Rick Porcello on Sunday night. ... First baseman Brandon Allen, whom the Sox dealt to the Diamondbacks organization for reliever Tony Pena, was batting .385 with four home runs and nine RBIs in eight games for Triple-A Reno.

There is speculation the White Sox could pursue Roy Halladay, but only if the Sox clear some payroll by trading one of the pitchers in their vaunted bullpen. The two most likely candidates would be Octavio Dotel and Scott Linebrink, two relievers the Indians have had interest in in the past. http://www.news-herald.com/articles/2009/0...s/nh1193100.txt Slow day, but still White Sox news.

here's more good news: NEW YORK -- Detroit Tigers reliever Joel Zumaya is going on the 15-day disabled list, this time because of a sore right shoulder. Zumaya Ryan Perry was recalled Saturday from Triple-A Toledo to replace the oft-injured Zumaya in the bullpen. The 24-year-old right-hander traveled to Detroit to be examined by a doctor. Zumaya is 3-3 with a 4.94 ERA and one save in 29 games. He said he felt a little pop in his pitching shoulder during Friday night's 5-3 loss to the New York Yankees, not long after giving up a three-run homer to Mark Teixeira in the seventh inning. Perry, a first-round draft pick in 2008, was 0-1 with a 4.28 ERA in 26 appearances for the Tigers earlier this season. The right-hander was expected to arrive in time for Saturday's game. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4338349 That bullpen is starting to look a little thin.

OK guys Detroit lost, 2-1, we have a chance to get to 1.5 back. Lets hope Wise doesnt screw it all up today.

Both are not good options IMO.

Rosenthal says we could be interested in Rios.
prochisox replied to Jimmywins1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Maybe a package of Rios and Halladay and not give up good prospects while taking on Rios big contract would work. -
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 08:05 PM) i think a deal of Richard, Poreda, Fields, and another prospect would get Halladay. That's 3 young guys who are already at MLB level and an upcoming propsect. That's rumored to be more than what they are looking for. I can see that deal getting done if they force us to take Vernon Wells and that hideous contract along with Halladay. It would be interesting if some kind of deal like that could happen because we could solve our CF this way. But money would be the issue.

Dye and Konerko going back-to-back to both hit their 300th home run should be #1. That will probably never happen again in the history of baseball. I was ticked off last night during the pregame of the Derby when they showed highlights for the first half of the season, espn had absolutely no mention of this but mentioned Giambi's 400 HR and Dunn's 300 HR. Beckham's first hit on June 9th is high on my list because that is my birthday. The Low moment of the season has to be that 19-1 beatdown the day Jake Peavy rejected the trade to come here. What a terrible day.

In 2008 you were drafted with fellow college teammate Dexter Carter. How have the two of you adjusted to from the jump of college to rookie ball? Has the familiarity of being drafted with a college teammate helped with your progress?

BOSTON | The only certainty for Mark Teahen is that change is coming. What change and how much change are the great unknowns. Teahen realizes his days of steady duty at third base are numbered with Alex Gordon poised to return from the disabled list. The increasing drumbeat of trade rumors could even spell an end to his time with the Royals. He tries hard to take it all in stride. “Do I wonder what happens?” Teahen repeated. “Not really. I think it’s inevitable that I’ll go back to bouncing around. Where I’ll get the most time, I don’t know. “Obviously, I’ve enjoyed playing third and playing there every day, but it’s no mystery as to who is viewed as the future here at third base. I’ve just got to continue to do my job wherever I am, and let them figure out where that is going to be.” That figures to be a little third when Gordon needs a break, a lot of time as a corner outfielder and maybe even a bit of first and second. Unless he gets traded. Several teams are tracking Teahen as the July 31 nonwaiver trading deadline approaches. The Red Sox took a hard look this weekend in their search for alternatives in case Mike Lowell continues to struggle with his injured hip. The Giants, White Sox, Cubs and Mets have also shown interest. Teahen’s versatility is complemented this season by a .294 average and .350 on-base percentage. Finances also play a part. Teahen is making $3.575 million with one more year of arbitration eligibility before qualifying for free-agency. That’s pricey for a player without a regular position for any team but especially the Royals. “I understand,” Teahen said, “that being in Kansas City, which is a small market, that as guys start to make more money, they get talked about more in trades. That’s just the way it is. “Until I have a set role — and maybe my set role is to bounce around — I can see how I’m in the mix of names that get thrown around.” http://www.kansascity.com/baseball/story/1320039.html Any thought? I wouldnt mind trading for him, he has been a thorn in our side for some time.

At the end of August/beginning of September, theres a rough road trip that I am terrified of. 4 in Boston, 3 in NY, 3 in Minnesota. I have a feeling that road trip will make or break us.

Who should be the 5th starter after the ASB?
prochisox replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would give Colon one last shot and have him on a short leash, after that, if he fails, the Poreda show begins. -
Ozzie thinks he was at the Michael Jackson funeral. "I worry about Colon because Colon was a big-time Michael Jackson fan. ... He might see the TV and cry all day long. He may be is in LA at his funeral, because I can’t find him. When he gets to Charlotte, Oney [Guillen] will call me to say he’s there. “Nobody knows how big of a Michael Jackson fan Colon was. I’m serious. He might be depressed a little bit." http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....-charlotte.html
