  1. Anyone know if Ronny Cedeno cleared waivers? He'd be a nice upgrade over Olmedo...
  2. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 03:22 PM) The Royals have designated Yuniesky Betancourt for assignment, according to Bob Dutton of The Kansas City Star (via Twitter) any interest?? I would drop Olmedo and pick up Betancourt. Seems like a marginal upgrade, but an upgrade nonetheless. Would not claim him tho. Let him clear waivers then sign him.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 04:02 AM) I have my doubts regarding the reporting of Fontenot being a guy you hear about with regards to him being claimed or making it through waivers. Fontenot was released today according to the MLB transaction website.
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 03:01 PM) I like Wise but what is wrong with Danks? He can sure go get the ball Wise is insurance for Danks or De Aza.. Good smart pick up...
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) 2009 .228 /.337 /.284/.621 2010 .238 /.313/.302/.615 2011 .278 /.388/.421/.809 2012 .210/.315/.286/ .600 When you replace crap with crap, you still have crap I was looking at it defensively, Punto can play shortstop and 3b better than Hudson can. Then replace Olmedo with Fontenot and the bench is better.
  6. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 03:36 PM) This would be for offense mainly. Pinch hitting. Abreu is a better hitter than Wise. And Kenny has always wanted Abreu. KW always gets his guy....5 years later. Robin rarely has anyone pinch hit. It's hard to carry an extra outfielder who's duty is to pinch hit while going with a 6 man rotation. There's just no room..
  7. The Red Sox placed Nick Punto on waivers today. He would be a better option than Hudson at this point...
  8. I think I would rather pick up Dewayne Wise instead. Plays better D, can play all over the outfield, left bat, and can steal a base.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 03:29 PM) Has a pitcher ever been waived or sent to AAA in the same year (Humber, possibly)? Humber has no options left, can't send him down.
  10. A deal with the Padres wouldn't surprise me. KW + Josh Byrnes have made a few deals together. Javy Vazquez for Chris Young, Tony Pena for Brandon Allen, Quentin for Chris Carter. I can see this happening...
  11. My guess is it's Stewart and Ozzie Martinez... Doesn't seem like they have room on the 40 man roster and we just took Martinez off ours..
  12. If the Red Sox are in panic mode, how about a deal like this: White Sox send Rios, Floyd, and Escobar White Sox get Matsuzaka, Jenks, and 3-4 lower level prospects Why for the Red Sox - Floyd is an immediate upgrade to everything they have, Escobar can fill in at SS, and Rios can play RF for them, doesnt look like they have much at that position for now. Dice-K and Jenks both are injury prone and probably won't contribute this season anyways - 16 million dollars on nothing right there. Why for the White Sox - Get rid of Rios and his contract. Jenks and Dice-K both expire after this season - 2 bums that can't stay healthy is a price I would pay to get rid of Rios. Get more prospects. So who says no?
  13. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Oct 29, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) The Sox did not trade with St. Louis. You are correct. This was 2 separate deals. First trade was between us and the Blue Jays. Second trade was between the Blue Jays and Cardinals. For our trade: Edwin Jackson (Type B FA) vs. Jason Frasor (Type B FA or 2012 club option) = Both can be offered arbitration for a similar draft pick, but KW can exercise the club option for Frasor and either keep him for another year, when he will probably be a Type B FA again, or deal him for immediate help. His club option at 3.75M will/should be easier to deal to a team instead of that team offering multi-year contracts to a free agent reliever. Sure, Frasor didn't perform as well as he should have in Chicago, but his history in the AL East speaks for itself and thus his salary is a bargain. Advantage: White Sox Mark Teahen (5.5M 2012 guaranteed contract) vs. Zach Stewart (cost controlled pitcher) = Easy call here. Getting rid of the 5.5M and getting a pitcher who may or may not pan out is easily in our favor. Clear winner: White Sox The White Sox also managed to save a few million, possibly 6 or 7, during the 2011 season. So after breaking down this deal, we are clearly winners, unless Teahen magically turns into Albert Pujols, which is unlikely to occur. Then after KW made this deal, the Blue Jays made a deal with the Cardinals, which we were not a part of. The deal broke down as Rasmus to Toronto for pitching (Jackson, Dotel, Scrabble) and Corey Patterson. The Cardinals excelled with all these players, while Rasmus is still searching for his breakout 2010 season, which may or may not have been a fluke. The Cardinals won the World Series with the help of these players in this deal. So after looking this over, I come to the conclusion that the White Sox won their deal clearly and the Cardinals won their deal clearly. Rasmus may become something special, but no way St Louis win the World Series without this trade, where winning the World Series is the ultimate goal.
  14. Joel Zumaya.. News: Zumaya (elbow) played catch at about 90 feet earlier this week, the Tigers' official site reports. (Sun Sep 11) Spin: Zumaya has been sidelined all season after undergoing exploratory surgery on his right elbow during spring training. Instead of focusing on this year, look for Zumaya to concentrate his efforts on returning to full strength for next season. The 26-year-old reliever will be a free agent this offseason. http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/6392/joel-zumaya
  15. I thought Omar was very valuable to this club. The way I seen it, while he spent time with our ballclub, I have seen a huge improvement in the infield play of both Alexei and Beckham. He was an anti-Ozzie in a way. He was probably a leader and set a great example for our kids in the infield. They probably looked up to him and asked him questions about defensive play. While Ozzie and Kenny had their rift going on, I bet none of the young kids wanted to talk to Ozzie. I wouldnt want to take advice from someone constantly bickering with management. Hell, I bet Morel even learned a thing or 2 from him. All this knowledge, for 3.125 million spread over 2 years. If we have room on our roster, I would sign him for one more year, but would understand if he wanted to go to a club that can win it all or spend his last year in Cleveland. Class act imo. edit: more: I think Omar was more Kenny's idea than Ozzie's. He brought another leader into the clubhouse for our kids to look out for and seek help.
  16. Looks like pick #13 again for the white sox in the next draft...
  17. Q is 0/11 vs Masterson, Teahen is .286 in 14 AB's. just saying...
  18. Looks like Brandon Allen is as good as gone in Arizona. Branyan signing seems like yet another indication the Dbacks don't see Brandon Allen as a fit anymore. http://twitter.com/nickpiecoro/status/38015940180312064

  20. there seems to be interest in a rafael soriano/@OzzieGuillen pairing. but word thus far is, #chisox have little if any $ left #chisox pen not bad w/ sale, thornton, santos, crain, pena. but soriano would be fine jenks replacement -- if they find $ http://twitter.com/#!/SI_JonHeyman interesting...
  21. I could live with Teahen being the dh when he gets back, this team needs an arm in the bullpen.
  22. Rios, Konerko, Danks, or Thornton.. In that order.
  23. QUOTE (striker @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 01:20 PM) x2? I want to know the answer to ur question too. I need a link as well.
