How about: •The Diamondbacks may non-tender Conor Jackson. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/08/perr...-penny-dye.html Trade Linebrink for Conor Jackson.
-
I don't think the Dodgers will offer him arbitration. He would just accept it and force the Dodgers to find a trade partner, or have 10+million sitting on the bench. Jim is a class act and I dont really think they will play these games with him.

Looking at the schedule, it wouldnt surprise me if we end up going at best 9-20 the rest of the way. Maybe we can sneak into the 6th pick. Im not being negative or anything, but this team is just depressing this year. Half the team looks like they cant wait to get their vacation.

Former ODU star pitcher, visiting Harbor Park, gets call to majors after helping beat Tides Daniel Hudson is taken from the game in the third inning and is told he's being promoted from Charlotte to Chicago. NORFOLK - Daniel Hudson, who grew up watching ballgames at Harbor Park, experienced a dream homecoming there on Tuesday night. The 22-year-old pitcher, who starred at Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach and at Old Dominion University, came back as a member of the Charlotte Knights and pitched three shutout innings against the Norfolk Tides. After the third inning, pitching coach Richard Dotson pulled Hudson out of the game and told him he was being called up to the majors by the Chicago White Sox. "It couldn't have happened in a better place," Hudson said between games of a doubleheader. "To get the news here, at this park with all of my friends and family here, it's crazy to think about." Hudson said the news caught him by surprise, since he was not among several Charlotte players promoted the day before as major-league rosters expand for September. "I guess they wanted me to work a few more innings tonight," he said. "When they told me, I did a double-take. They had to tell me twice before I believed them." Hudson led Princess Anne to the state Group AAA title in 2005 and then pitched three years for ODU before the White Sox drafted him in the fifth round in 2008. This summer he made quick work of Chicago's farm system, putting up a 14-5 record for four teams before getting called up to Chicago on Tuesday. "It's an awesome feeling," Hudson said. "Just an amazing feeliing." http://www.dailypress.com/sports/dp-now-hu...,0,424466.story

Still can't confirm the Dan Hudson promotion but it seems increasingly likely that it is true. http://twitter.com/FutureSox

Watching the Dodgers postgame show, Ned Colleti is speaking and he said he cannot name who the Dodgers traded in both trades, so Fuller is probably not the return. -

Williams didn't accompany the Sox to Minneapolis. Special assistant Bill Scherrer is here, as is a Detroit scout. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....up-for-now.html I wonder what Detroit would want from us. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) Insane. What a f***ing great deal. I'm stoked as a secondary Angel fan. 8-7 with a 5.92 era over this year is nothing to really to get excited over. The Rays are getting the better end of this deal by saving money over the next 2 years. Kazmir is having just a little bit better season than Contreras. But Kazmir is 4-1 in his last 6. Im not sure what to make of him.

Sorry if I posted this somewhere it shouldnt be, but I think this guy could be the best option, wouldnt have to rush Hudson up, and Peavy could buy more time.

Penny granted release, making room for Wagner Veteran right-hander Brad Penny requested and received his release tonight in a move that clears a roster spot for reliever Billy Wagner and gives Penny time to join a new team before postseason rosters are set. “I asked for my release and I got it,” Penny said. Speaking after last night’s 3-2 victory over the White Sox, Penny thanked the Red Sox for taking a chance on him. “I enjoyed playing with all of the guys,” he said. “I played for a great manager on a great team. I had a great time. I enjoyed it. I wish things had worked out better, but that happens.” Penny will be placed on release waivers tomorrow and clear them on Monday. He can talk to other teams while on waivers, but he can’t formally enter into a contract until he clears. He would like the opportunity to start, which probably wasn’t going to happen in Boston. The former All-Star was removed from the rotation after winning just once in his final 11 starts. He was ready to pitch in relief of Tim Wakefield tonight, but Wakefield didn’t need it and after the game Penny huddled with manager Terry Francona and general manager Theo Epstein. Penny’s goal is to hook on with someone else by the end of August, which would make him postseason-eligible. Even with his numbers not where he wanted them, he was still throwing 97 mph in his final start. Coming off a serious arm injury, Penny was one of the team’s low-cost flyers this offseason. He signed a one-year, $5 million contract with another $3 million in potential incentives, though he fell short of all of them. After a slow start, he pitched well. He went 4-3 with a 3.68 ERA in 12 starts between May 3 and July 4, but then everything fell apart. He has won just once since June 18 and was removed from the rotation after allowing eight runs in four innings of Friday’s 20-11 loss to the Yankees. He finished his Red Sox career 7-8 with a 5.61 ERA. “I had some bad breaks and made some bad pitches,” he said. “But I’m healthy, and that’s what I’m happy about. This isn’t last year, when I was hurt. If that had been the case, I’d be upset. “All in all I had a great time here. My shoulder is healthy and I’m glad I came here. It was a blessing.” Penny’s departure creates an opening for Wagner, the left-handed reliever who was acquired from the Mets on Tuesday and is expected in uniform tomorrow night. http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/r...oom-for-wagner/ Wouldnt have to rush Peavy if we signed this guy.

I would love to see Hudson pitch and get his feet wet for next year. Might as well see what he brings to the table. Anyways, side thought- if we put Linebrink on waivers, would anyone claim him? -
More news on Harrison, who celebrates his birthday today: Titans won't be calling (back) Harrison Posted by Mike Florio on August 25, 2009 2:55 PM ET An old-fashioned pissing match broke out last week regarding the question of whether the Titans had contacted receiver Marvin Harrison. ESPN's Adam Schefter, on his first day on the job in Bristol, reported that they did. Coach Jeff Fisher claimed that they didn't. We later learned that Schefter was right. (And some of you continue to think we're full of something other than chocolate. As long as you type in the correct URL, we're fine with that.) Regardless of whether a call previously was made (and we think it was), the Titans won't be calling Harrison now, even after cutting receiver Chris Davis and losing receiver Nate Washington, possibly beyond Week One of the regular season. Per Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, the Titans aren't interested in Harrison. And Wyatt's reasoning -- grounded in preserving the ego and power of the mustachioed coach -- makes perfect sense. "Fisher has been adamant about his non-interest in Harrison," Wyatt writes. "If the team made a run at him now, it would make Fisher look both powerless and clueless." Our guess is that an inquiry was made regarding Harrison's potential interest in joining the Titans, and that once Tennessee heard the asking price, they opted instead to pretend the call was never made. Though we've yet to learn the precise amount of the offer the Colts extended in an effort to persuade Harrison to stick around at a salary lower than the $9 million he was due to earn, we have a feeling that Indy's best offer as of late February greatly exceeds the one-year veteran minimum ballpark in which teams currently interested in Harrison might be residing. And so the last thing the Titans need is pressure from the media and the fans to spend some of the money that wasn't devoted to keeping defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth in Nashville on a big-name wideout whose best days have faded into the rear view mirror at about the same rate of speed that Haynesworth drives his car. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/...-back-harrison/

Starvin' Marvin: If Harrison's Hungry To Get Back Out There, Chicago May Help Nearly two weeks ago, when appearing on the "Waddle & Silvy Show" (an ESPN Radio program in Chicago), former Colts Head Coach, Tony Dungy stated, "I think he definitely can play, and I would encourage [bears Head Coach] Lovie [smith] to sign him if they had an opening." According to an undisclosed source of mine, that encouragement from Tony Dungy may have worked on Coach Lovie Smith as the Bears have offered Marvin a contract to play for the Bears in 2009. Smith, however, has not publicly commented on whether or not the Bears would be interested in signing the eight-time Pro Bowler. Tony Dungy coached Harrison during his seven-year tenure with the Indianapolis Colts, during that time the Colts appeared in several AFC Championship games, and won Super Bowl XLI. Dungy retired as head coach of the Colts on January 12, 2009, Harrison elected free agency just a few weeks afterwards. Harrison, who has racked up 128 touchdown catches and 14,580 yards receiving yards throughout his career, has also reportedly visited several other clubs including the Tennessee Titans, but none of them have offered Harrison a contract. If in fact Harrison joins Chicago, his arrival should make the Bears' offense the best in the NFC North. His ability to stretch the field will allow for quarterback Jay Cutler to throw deep passes to him, as well as freeing up the middle for short throws to tight end Greg Olsen and dump-off passes to running back Matt Forte. It is likely that Harrison would want to join a team that best fits his style of play, and gives him a chance to win another Super Bowl. In that case, Chicago could be the best place for Marvin Harrison to end his already astounding career. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/242506-...home-in-chicago The NFC North keeps getting more interesting.
