I understand some of those fans, not that I want them to spend huge on him but when your team hasn’t landed a big time free agent pitcher in the past and your gm says you are gonna be in the market for 2 pitchers with wheeler, odorizzi and Hamels off the board and the realistic chance of landing a cole or strasburg is a pipe dream. I think some people just want them to get somebody worth a damn

No one said anything about jumping off the ledge, the grandal signing came out of left field. If they miss on wheeler I will see what they do but won’t put much hope into it based on past success rates

Absolutely zero chance they would have let Abreu walk not when that’s a signal it’s time to contend. Jimenez they would have tried extending just because that’s the whitesox way and what they have him being paid will be bargain dumpster shopping here in a season or so. I’m not going to give this front office the benefit of the doubt you have to do more than extending Abreu and signing grandal to say the money was spent, because imo the moment you spend 250 mil you are going to spend more to make the team a contender. 250 mil and so far the only thing that has come back in new money is the 74 mil to Grandal. There is much more to be spent in my opinion

And last offseason had they signed Machado do you really think they would have just let Abreu walk? Highly unlikely

If you are factoring the Abreu or even Jimenez contract into the equation you are messing with the numbers just to say they got to 250. It’s deceiving on the fact they were under club control and if you had landed Machado you certainly would spend more money to keep Abreu around. So in my eyes that 50 million or whatever you want to classify it as does not count.

Meh, he seems like another random dude....we will see... if we land both before the winter meetings life is good for RH and crew to focus on the final remaining pieces. Idk, last offseason was never ending so to have a potential of grandal and wheeler signed before then would be a huge win for the Sox
