  1. QUOTE (jhonnydanks @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:41 AM) Not from a power standpoint FRINGE POWER! Keith Law thinks it was possible he could hit "15 plus homers" playing at the Cell. But I guess I should of stopped after "Keith Law thinks."
  2. Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin now Eaton: "It would be great if I could hang my hat around .300, 100 runs scored and an OBP around .400. I think it’s definitely doable." Ugh, now he's throwing out projections. Kid, just go play
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:25 AM) What about the player actually comparing himself to those players? I believe Hahn or a beat writer mentioned the Dykstra comp first. I could be wrong
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:19 AM) If he is a Lofton/Dykstra mix, it's an unreal trade. I would rather he not reach base getting hit. Players comparisons are so unfair, especially in baseball. It's such a mental game, the only person he should be competing with is himself.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:05 AM) Chicago White Sox ‏@whitesox 54m Robin Ventura will join Harold & Matt on @MLBNetwork this morning around 10:15 CT. It's usually so awkward to hear managers react to rumors and player trades.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 10:06 AM) KW was pretty giddy about the return for Nick Swisher and Javy Vazquez. I think the Sox wouldn't make trades that weren't strickly salary dumps unless he was giddy about them. After I heard him rave about Jeff Marquez's sinkerball I was done putting any value into how he evaluates prospects.
  7. Of the three teams involved, the White Sox's end of this trade probably carries the least risk, unless Eaton turns out to be a kamikaze who runs into a never-ending string of injuries. "I like what the White Sox did in this deal," said one scout. "My biggest questions are: Will Skaggs be the pitcher -- or close -- Jerry thinks he will be, and will Trumbo produce the way Kevin thinks he will? Those are the two big questions. I really don't have a lot of questions about what the White Sox got. I think Eaton will be exactly what they expect him to be." In case you missed it, nice quotes from Jayson Stark's article wrapping up the deal.
  8. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 06:55 PM) Another trade on the way? LOL. Not an insider.
  9. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 06:53 PM) I know it's early, but has there been a Hahn trade in which it looks like we clearly won? Trades should be judged years down the road, not immediately after. I'm not concerned with "winning" trades, I just want a good ball club.
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 06:18 PM) Somehow people have totally begun to stop appreciating Johnson's ceiling. He could be what we normally call a number 2 starter. +1. Johnson>Santiago
  11. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 05:52 PM) He does not like Garcia at all keithlaw ‏@keithlaw 1h .@maedwilson I don't believe Avi Garcia is ready/best off starting in majors
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:59 PM) While also having to build his stamina during the year because of the dumb decision by the Sox heading into the season? Santiago has a pretty high ceiling, IMO. A much higher ceiling than the likes of Rienzo. But I do agree that he has a higher ceiling than Reinzo! But Reinzo's ceiling is a 5th starter.
  13. Had the same basic numbers while just starting in the minors. High hits, walks, and homers per innings pitched. He does well with runners on base though, not sure if thats sustainable.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:54 PM) Seems premature to say that, as he could easily classify as a #2 if he makes the same leap Quintana did. Quintana went from a minor league free agent to a #3, thats an insane leap. Santiago averages 12.2 baserunners per 9 IP and is flyball prone pitching at the cell.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:46 PM) So either the Sox are trading a potential #2 starter for a 4th outfielder or the Sox gave up a #4/#5 starter for a starting CF with some pop Guess we just have to trust Hahn that option B comes to fruition. Santiago could never be a #2. I am sorry, he's a great competitor on the mound and does well for his tools but he's not a frontline starter. He's a solid rotation member who will eat innings. I think Paulino, if healthy, can duplicate what Santiago could do. We got tremendous value for Santiago if Eaton comes back healthy and comes close to doing what he's done consistently in the minors.
  16. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:29 PM) It'd be impossible to argue otherwise. I disagree, Eaton has talent, he was a top 100 prospect last year. His minor league slash line over 1,560 PA's is .348/.450/.501 and he played hurt last year. Obviously we identified him as a player we wanted to acquire and the cost wasn't prohibitive.
  17. Eaton, Abreu, Sale, Garcia, Johnson, and Q all under team control until at least 2018 correct? That's a pretty nice core.
  18. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:32 AM) All I did was answer the question.relax. Not mad, there are lots of moving parts, we would just have to add in someone else. Get it done Hahn!
  19. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:30 AM) Hector spending a little time above his promised land last year.......and Eaton spending a little time below it last year...... ........is why we even have a shot at this. I'm on board. Do it. LHP is a surplus, and we have a need for a ready-now guy with great ceiling. Yeah I don't have a problem with it. Santiago seems to have maxed out his talents. He was serviceable last year in the rotation, but let's not pretend he's a frontline starter.
  20. QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:29 AM) Dan Hayes ‏@DanHayesCSN 3m Have been told at this point #WhiteSox-Angels-Dbacks talks are in preliminary stages but are definitely on going. Dan Hayes ‏@DanHayesCSN 1m Also was told at this point there are a bunch of contingencies, moving parts in the talks. #WhiteSox I love baseball rumors!
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:28 AM) That's the point though, he's not denying it. The Sox are also not an organization that lies. They will mislead the hell out of you, but if the beat writer says "the Sox are not in on Juan Uribe," then I have to believe they are not in on Juan Uribe. True! I hope your right, it wouldn't be a move that would make much sense for the future.
  22. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:25 AM) Matt davidson No way the Dbacks give up Davidson, Skaggs, AND Eaton for Trumbo. It's stupid enough to give up Skaggs and Eaton for him
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:23 AM) But then see these. And I see a guy who is more than willing to diverge some details. I also don't see what Latin American sources would have insight into this situation. I don't think the Sox are in on Uribe whatsoever. He didn't mention the 3-team rumor until Keith Law broke it. It indicates he was withholding the information until it hit twitter.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:22 AM) I bet Rojas is being fed info by the agent while Merkin is getting it from the team. The agent is trying to get LA to commit a second year for Uribe. That too!
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:20 AM) What makes Enrique Rojas more connected to the situation than Scott Merkin? His latin american sources. Also Scott Merkin isn't suppose to be revealing White Sox plans or offers, hes the beat writer.
