  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) As I stated earlier though, we picked a good year to be bad because the 2011 draft could be even more loaded than the 08 and 09 drafts. No doubt. The top of the 2011 class looks stellar.
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 12:59 PM) It seems like this draft is weak, unpredictable, and not filled with a lot of star potential. You would be correct. This is not a strong draft class. I expect quite a few surprises in the 1st round. The perception of 1st round talent is extremely volatile this year.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 12:30 PM) What's the scoop on the Minnesota guy, Kvasnicka? I think he is an over draft at 13, but he's had a bunch of helium lately. I personally see him as a late 1st round talent at absolute best. http://pnrscouting.com/scoutingreports_2010_kvasnickami.html
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 12:22 PM) According to the chat, 7-8 names on the Sox list, with one Boras client on it. Mentioned Brentz, Workman, Wojciechowski. My prediction is that they take Workman. His guess is the Boras client is Harvey. He's one of the few college arms I wouldn't be upset with. Hell, I might even like that pick.
  5. Piliere's draft chat is going on if anyone has any questions. http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2010/06/02/mlb-liv...?sms_ss=twitter
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 08:04 PM) So Tracye Thompson is now out for a s***load of time, undergoing surgery? http://intimidators.podbean.com/2010/06/01...and-nba-finals/
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 01:09 PM) I was just reading information on him, and he's pretty intriguing. Stetson Allie is another player who sticks out. I love Allie, especially with the improved command. I will be tracking his progress no matter who takes him. It's a shame that he's not remotely an option for the Sox.
  8. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ May 31, 2010 -> 07:49 PM) Not really. It's the same three names as last week (Barrett Loux, Deck McGuire and Asher Wojciechowski). McGuire is the pick, whose stock Law says is slipping. Thanks. I'd be happy with McGuire.
  9. ESPN Insider's, does Law's new mock offer anything new and insightful?
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 31, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) I'm torn on him as well, but he would still be a MUCH better pick than Wimmers or Workman IMO. I just don't like those pitchers at all, and am tired of the "safe" picks. Jeff, you can probably give a better grasp of his potential. (Brentz I mean) The comments I read about Brentz earlier this year compared to now are drastically different. I'm not a scouting expert by any means, I just read and gather as much information as a I can. Earlier this year there were Markakis comps being thrown about, noting him as being able to hit for both power and average with good (not great) corner OF defense. Most currently I've seen a few Francoeur comparisons, wonders about his plate discipline, swing, and projections as a .250-260 hitter with 20 - 25 HR power. I like Choice much more than Brentz currently.
  11. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 31, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) I'm torn on him as well, but he would still be a MUCH better pick than Wimmers or Workman IMO. I just don't like those pitchers at all, and am tired of the "safe" picks. Jeff, you can probably give a better grasp of his potential (Brentz I mean) but I'm not seeing a very high upside there. I think Wimmers is somewhat underrated. He has an above average fastball in the 90-92 (up to 94 on occasion) range with good life, and very good command. His curve and change have been described as plus by multiple sources as well. The nontraditional pitcher's frame scares some people off, but I think he has an outside chance of being a number 2 starter, but more likely a number 3. He isn't a sexy pick I agree, but I wouldn't be unhappy with him.
  12. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ May 31, 2010 -> 11:13 AM) From Frankie Piliere's latest mock: Yuck. I've done a complete turnaround on Brentz. Don't believe in him much. I would much prefer a Workman/Wimmers. Your thoughts on Brentz?
  13. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 29, 2010 -> 11:40 PM) I don't get it..... The power went out tonight postponing the game.
  14. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ May 28, 2010 -> 04:06 PM) In the comments Callis rules out Harvey due to the Boras connection and adds Wimmers/Workman/Eibner to the list of possibilities. The pick was Asher Wojciechowski, for those who don't feel like clicking. Kind of what I expect with Harvey as well. I'd be willing to wager a large amount that one of Workman/Wimmers will be the Sox selection.
  15. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 27, 2010 -> 09:04 PM) I'm thinking this team gets torn down after the draft. I'm looking forward to it. Seconded.
  16. Tyler's K-rate is becoming rather scary.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 27, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) James Paxton might be my choice. I wonder if the stance on working with Boras has changed any. Also wondering because of Harvey.
  18. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ May 27, 2010 -> 02:05 PM) Some caution for those dead set on wanting Wilson: I've been hearing a lot of negatives regarding his pitch recognition as well, and how it's far away from what it should be at this point. I don't think it's in any way realistic the Sox consider him with the 13th pick.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 26, 2010 -> 10:27 AM) I'd be exstatic with either guy. I really like the bat options better than the pitching options as of now. I haven't feel in love with too many pitchers, especially the ones the Sox are likely to target. My thoughts exactly. Not that enthusiastic about any of Wimmers/Workman/Hahn/Asher. Harvey, McGuire, Ranaudo though, sign me up.
  20. Piliere's 1st Full Mock Draft I wouldn't mind Sale either. Better bat than Castellanos at this point, and is projected to be a true power guy. I don't like his defensive shortcomings though. He's pretty much Travis Snider 2.0
