What are your plans for Tank?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2010 -> 06:09 PM) He is going to be Juan Uribe with more power and a lot less defense. This. I think he will be a solid regular at best unless he suddenly develops some plate discipline and a better approach.

Phil Rogers is terrible but he mentioned Mitchell (and EE) in today's article: http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...g-mitchell.html

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 20, 2010 -> 10:54 PM) Mitchell went 0/4, 2 K. He is striking out a TON. Not surprising. He had a 35% K rate in Kanny, and he hasn't played in a while.

Arizona Fall League
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 19, 2010 -> 07:37 AM) I know this sounds simple, but, it could be the dude just needs some rest. He recovered from a major condition and then played again this year, I'm sure that took its toll. Phegley Suffers Another Setback

Jason Bour being added to the Saguaros roster doesn't bode well for Phegley.

The "seriously" should not be in this thread title. Votto is going nowhere.

White Sox in win mode, not rebuild
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 14, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) I think AA is an important step - usually seen as a big jump from A+, and the year that often shows who the real prospects are. I consider everyone on that starting rotation as interesting. Shirek, last year before his injury, was looking like a guy who might be ready for a jump. Axelrod and Doyle are older, but still have been very successful and may turn into something. Griffith is still very talented and recovered nicely from his injury. Sauer is the only guy in the rotation who I would call weak, but he's not a guy I'd write off just yet. I agree that none of the 5 are "blue chip" in the sense of top 10 prospect at level for pitchers, but you have 4 arms that are all the types I'd say have a 25%+ chance of excelling at AA and becoming just that. The bullpen looks downright filthy to me, in terms of how they will perform numbers-wise. Rem is older but intriguing, Jones is a very toolsy pitcher who bears watching, Bellamy is also a guy who looks likely to be a major leaguer. That's a decent field in the pen. No one of those guys is Top 10 among AA pitchers going in, I'd say. But I'll make a wager with you - I'd bet at least one form the rotation and at least two from the pen will look like future major league serious contributors by the end of 2011. Few will actually reach the majors in 2011, but a number of them will look like 2012 deliveries. Fair enough. I have little faith in almost all of the SP in the rotation personally. I don't see nearly enough upside or track record in that bunch to indicate an improvement on the farm. Aside from Griffith (whose declining K rate is worrisome) I think we'd be lucky if any of the other 4 emerge as a back-end starter. I would agree on the bullpen though. I don't think much of Jones, but I do like Santos/Rem/Bellamy. Here's hoping Bellamy isn't a repeat of Drew O'Neil though.

White Sox in win mode, not rebuild
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 14, 2010 -> 07:39 AM) Probably. If my projections are right, looks like a pitching staff for B-Ham of something like... SP: Shirek SP: Axelrod SP: Doyle SP: Griffith SP: Sauer ***(I assume Leesman will be in AAA) RP: Jones RP: Bellamy RP: Corley RP: S. Rodriguez RP: Remenowsky RP: Santiago Yeah, I'd say that will probably be a solid staff. Why exactly does this pitching staff make the farm system look better? I see a bunch of fringe guys and bullpen arms. Not a single blue chip pitching prospect. I'm a fan of Santos Rodriguez, Remenowsky, and Griffith, but the names on this list are not even close to a good example of an improving farm system. With Hudson gone and Dayan losing his rookie status, I'd wager that the White Sox farm system is at the absolute bottom of the league, somewhere in the bottom 3 for certain.

White Sox Current Draft standings
QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) Ah, thanks for the correction. That sucks. I hope they find a way to slot these guys, and get them signed and playing a week after the draft again. I had forgotten the three didn't sign as well until just recently. There is also the possibility of gaining up to 5 compensatory picks through the 1st, Supp, and 2nd rounds. Both PK and AJ are likely Type A's, and Putz is a Type B. Paulie and Putz are sure things with offering arbitration. AJ could probably go either way. Obviously, this is contingent on the subsequent offering of arbitration, declining by players, and then signing elsewhere. The thought of having 6 picks through those first three rounds is drool worthy. Especially in what is likely a very strong draft class. It could go a long way to rebuilding what is a terrible farm system.

White Sox Current Draft standings
QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) The Sox will have the 20th pick in the 2011 Draft. They will have the 23rd pick. Loux (AZ), Whitson (SD), and Covey (MIL) did not sign last year.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 1, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) In case no one's noticed, BA started doing their League Top 20's last week No one Sox player was on their SAL list. Kinda surprised Thompson wasn't, although I'm sure he was discussed. Pioneer League had Blanke (7) and Royse (19). Holmberg was 15 Appy league had Heidenreich (17) and Petricka (19) Reed was also on the Pioneer list. #8- Konerko to address free agency before TH game
QUOTE (beck72 @ Oct 1, 2010 -> 04:13 PM) I'm of the mind that the Sox should offer PK arb, which he won't accept. He'll likely get a 2, 3 yr deal near $13, 14 mill a year from another team. He will be offered arbitration without question. Hopefully he remains an A. He's been right on the cusp all year.- Konerko to address free agency before TH game
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 1, 2010 -> 10:05 AM) I highly doubt that no team in baseball wants an experienced catcher who can still hit, knows how to catch a pitching staff, and can at least play close to adequate defense. He might not be the top FA choice of teams, but I wouldn't say NOBODY wants him. Yep. Also, the Catching crop isn't particularly strong this offseason. I'd wager someone will offer AJ a multi-year deal.- Kenny & Ozzie at it again
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 02:55 PM) Just checked the Trib and didn't see a direct quote, but there was Mark Gonzalez in his last mailbag saying that he didn't think Kotsay would be back next year. Found it. Sun-Times, near the end. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...T-sox25.article- Kenny & Ozzie at it again
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 26, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) Is it true that Mark Kotsay said he doesn't think he'll be returning to the Sox next season? Saw this on WSI, but there was no source/link. Yes. Kotsay was asked about the Ozzie wanting an extension subject. He said that it isn't a big deal to him since he won't be with the club next season, but it should be something that the returning players should keep an eye on. I believe it was a Tribune blurb.- Kenny & Ozzie at it again
