  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) It's not about the players though, it's about the contract extension. Indeed. Is their something preventing them from re-attempting this deal with another extension window though? I'm not well versed on such a matter. It sounds like the issue was length. Adrian wants 8, Boston wanted to do 6.
  3. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) it makes a ton of sense(sadly). of the big market teams, the cubs make the most sense because the yankees have teixeira, angels have morales, the red sox now appear out of it. agone is still going to make only 5-6 mil this yr and next year when he makes 18-20, the cubs can afford it because of ramirez's contract coming off the books Boston isn't necessarily out of it. It's far from over. I bet they keep working on it through the winter meetings this week.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 01:49 PM) Morel ought to be option 1 at 3b, Vizquel platooning with someone ought to be option 2. Teahen or Lillibridge ought to be the panic option. Viciedo just doesn't belong there. Maybe, if you played him there the whole year at AAA, he'd get better. He has the arm to handle the spot, but he needs to work on all the rest, and moving back and forth between positions won't help. He ought to be a starting 1b somewhere, either Charlotte, Chicago, or someone else's big league team, for the full year next year. Complete agreement. Seems fairly obvious to me that the job is Morel's to lose. Omar is indeed a fallback option as well. If Konerko is resigned, Dayan needs to be thrown into a corner OF spot to see if he can handle it (in AAA). Either that or he's trade bait, which I have no issue with.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 01:42 PM) Heyman saying says Gonzalez deal fell through, according to his sources.
  6. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 11:06 AM) At this point 3B is still an option for Viciedo I'd prefer a 3B without stone hands, and more range than a parked car.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) He has a down season again, and he will be gone next offseason. That I would agree with.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) After the terrible season he just had, Flowers is probably looked at as a likely candidate to be outright waived at some point this season, rather than as a useful trade chip. After his first disappointing season in the minors, Flowers is a candidate to be outright waived? Hyperbole much?
  9. QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) I don't mind Dunn being the DH but I can't believe how much the Sox overpaid for him. s***. When you consider that the Sox could get a much better hitter like Vlad Guerrero on a two or three year deal at $ 6-7 mil per or even Thome on a 1 year deal for $ 4-5 mil. and Thome's better at 41 than Dunn is at 31. There's just no way that Dunn as a DH and not even close to being one of the best hitters in baseball or even a valuable player should command $ 14 mil. per year. Pujols will get $ 25 mil. per and if he was only a DH he would get much less and he's three times the hitter. It's just a huge overpayment. And, now how do the Sox convince Konerko to take less money than Dunn when he is clearly a far better baseball player. What is this I don't even
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) Ya, I figured both. It certainly appears that KW is going for it all this season and if he is, that's most likely going to include Chris in the pen. I think that's completely dependent on Peavy's health and if a starter is traded or not.
  11. Jon Morosi jonmorosi Jon Morosi #Braves receive cash in the Linebrink trade. Not sure how much yet. 1 minute ago
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 12:30 PM) Cofield was one of six players in the Braves organization who played in the AFL. Apparently he has a good body type and nice velocity. Cox has liked him dating back to 2007/2008. This isn't a bad deal, especially if there is no salary involved. I wonder what he did in the AFL. He pitched one inning in the AFL.
  13. Cofield seems to be a marginal relief prospect. Nothing too exciting. Though getting anything for Linebrink is a win. http://www.talkingchop.com/2010/11/26/1837...r-prospects-1-5
  14. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 11:30 PM) The more 1B Dunn plays the less for our backup first basemen Viciedo. He needs to find ABs too. If Paulie resigns, I'd wager Viciedo is traded in the near future. Even if the Sox do hold on to Dayan, he needs to work in the minors on many of his glaring deficiencies.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 09:21 AM) Speaking of Mitchell, what can we expect from him this season? Is he a potential September call up or is he still a year or 2 away? I don't follow the minors as closely as I should. Maybe more then 2 years away. He missed all of last season and was horrible in the AFL. He obviously gets a pass because of his time off the field and having surgery, but it isn't time to be penciling him for anything yet. This coming season will be very telling in that regard.
  16. Yuck. Hopefully the decline stops. Would be much more palatable at 1 year or 1 and an option.
  17. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 07:03 PM) Easy people, it says in there WAS close to signing with BlueJays. Doesn't mean it's happening. Besides it's Cowley. Yea. The fact that Cowley buried it in his Dunn article and noone else is reporting it makes me wary. I have no problem with him signing elsewhere though.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) I was just looking at Bill James projections on FanGraphs... They really like Morel and Flowers...apparently. They have Morel at a .339 wOBA and Flowers at a .352. Quentin's at a .362, Dunn at .383, Lee at .367. Beckham at .338, Rios at .343. That is one hell of a lineup if this comes into fruition. Bill James is always super optimistic with his projections for some reason.
  19. Supposedly Baltimore has offered a significant deal to PK.
  20. QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 25, 2010 -> 11:23 AM) Floyd is a MUCH more valuable asset than he's getting credit for here. This. Floyd has tons of surplus value.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 25, 2010 -> 12:18 AM) Francisco bats lefty and would be better power-wise than Stewart. He also would be a butcher at 3rd. By most accounts he is likely to be stashed away in LF or at 1B. Juan Francisco just isn't a very good prospect unless he learns some plate discipline. He doesn't have many assets other than his power potential.
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 25, 2010 -> 12:04 AM) Would the Reds trade Juan Francisco? He would be quite redundant with Dayan already in the system. 2 Power hitting prospects with no plate discipline and marginal defensive value. I don't find him all that desirable.
  23. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 24, 2010 -> 10:31 PM) Stewart has huge potential and the Sox could use power at 3B. The Sox unload critical dollars in this deal and acquire affordable, quality MLB players to lock in for the future. They could take that savings and move to sign PK, Dunn or perhaps Pena or LaRoche if they'd like to invest in pitching. Fowler -CF Ramirez - SS Rios - RF PK/Pena/Dunn (?)- 1B Quentin - DH Stewart/Morel-3B (platoon R/L) Beckham - 2B Flowers/Castro Pierre I like it. It's alright I suppose. I just don't think it's best utilization of Floyd's trade value. For a team that is supposedly rather strapped for cash, why would you trade for a 3B when it's one of the only spots that you could reasonably fill internally? Granted I don't have any alternative trade proposition, but I'd rather acquire a C or RF (Quentin to DH) through trade and let Morel handle the hot corner.
