  1. QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 09:08 PM) Semien is hitting himself to a promotion. .309/.460/.603/1.063 splits for July. Also, 19 walks and 8 strikeouts for July?!? Are we sure he's a White Sox prospect?? But, everybody rates Hawkins waaay above Semien. I don't get it. If Hawkins had those numbers.......
  2. It's been almost a month since that article appeared and broke the news that Sox are sellers, and it sure has livened things up on Sox Talk. Lots of great posts all over the place.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 08:58 PM) Semien>Sanchez They should be playing together at Charlotte in 2014.
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 04:28 PM) We're paying Dunn $14.5M/year, you wouldn't pay Choo $15M per? I'd do that in a heartbeat, the problem is he probably gets closer to $20M. For a long term deal? No way.
  5. Make that trade. I checked the stats for both those Detroit kids -- go for it Hahn.
  6. I was out of town and missed the documentary. If anyone hears of a re-run, I'd appreciate a quick blurb.
  7. QUOTE (mike65 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 08:59 AM) The Texas deal was supposedly Garza and Russell. It was a 4 for 2 deal. I definitely could see the Cardinals being interested in Peavy. My guess is that it would take Wong to headline the deal and I could see Ryan Jackson (ss) and Mark Rcepzynski (rp) plus someone like Tyler Lyons (sp) also icluded. If the White Sox like Cory Jones (sp) better, I coud see that, also. Since the White Sox like toolsy OFers, maybe Anthony Garcia would be of interest. I am just spitballing here. The Cardinals did scout Peavy last nght, FWIW. By the way, the DBacks GM has said publically that they can't take on any money. He lied.
  8. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 04:46 AM) Worst case scenario us the Sox keep Peavy and that's not such a bad thing. In fact, I'd be just fine with it. Getting rid of Rios and Dunn will help the Sox out more than anything. Having a rotation of Sale, Peavy, Danks, Quintana, and Johnson/Santiago is not bad to build around. Keeping Rios in his contract year might not hurt as much as some people think. He will still have trade value in 7/2014.
  9. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 06:16 PM) Don't be so sure. I'm still hoping Hahn decides to be a buyer and make a run for the playoffs. I think it can be done, but I'm tired of him wasting time. We need to make some nice additions now!!!! Are you aware that Sox have the third worst winning percentage in MLB?
  10. Please don't trade Reed, unless they absolutely blow away Hahn. Gotta be much better than Brandon Jacobs, for example.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 05:46 PM) It was between innings. After he loafed into the double play he went straight to RF without going to the dugout. He fielded that half inning, did not come up during the home side, and then Wells took over RF the next time out. Did not see it, but that's the way I thought it was. Only twice have I ever seen a Mgr. pull a player out of a game from the field for disciplinary reasons. One was when Billy Martin pulled Reggie Jackson out of right field, and they almost got into it in the dugout. The other was when Bobby Cox pulled Andru Jones out of center field for dogging it both in the field and on the bases. Takes guts for the Mgr. to do it; don't see why it doesn't happen more often.
  12. When Rios was removed, was it when the team was still on the field or at the end of the inning?
  13. Coats started heating up about a week ago at Kanny. He had tailed off some, probably because he never played 90-100 games in a season before.
  14. All the GM's are together in New York for most of this week and on expense accounts. Something is bound to happen.
  15. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 09:56 PM) Who still does? White Sox web site.
  16. Just yesterday I was reading a Colorado Rockies blog called Purple Row in which that writer recommended the Rox acquiring Dunn and putting him at first base, because they (Rockies) have been getting little production there. Had to laugh, cuz it won't happen, but wish it would. I can get the link if anyone cares.
  17. Brandon Jacobs not yet arrived in B'ham, or at least he is not on their roster yet. How long does it take to ge there from Portland?
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 06:20 PM) I still think our luck will change enough to stack up more wins than we saw in the first half. And you probably think Courtney Hawkins is a sure fire major league superstar in the making, worthy of top 5 prospect ranking.
  19. Mike Recchia has put up great numbers at Kanny. Did not play last year.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 10:52 PM) SARCASM? I can't speak for Jake, but I don't think he was sarcastic. Stone gave credit to Manto for Beckham the other day (Rios as well).
  21. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 08:45 AM) 1. Granderson and Pence? Granderson is old, injury prone, bad defensively, and strikes out 25% of the time. Pence is a no-patience hack with a 6% walk rate and .309 OBP -- which is precisely what this team does not need. I think you are selling Pence a bit short. Pretty good player, probably seen his best days, but he'll get some offers. He'll do better in a smaller park.
  22. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 11:31 AM) I asked Dan Hayes if he'd stand by his comment to me earlier in the season that the FO has "endless goodwill" for Robin. I said is he a guy they're committed to long-term? He said "without question." Hawk interviewed Hayed early in the Phils game, and I wasn't able to hear it. Was anything said of value?
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 05:14 PM) So would they still plan to empty the park and then have a 2nd game? Wouldn't the ticketholders for the 2nd game have arrived hours ago? Why didn't they start game 1 at 1 PM EST? Is there a union rule that pertains?
  24. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 01:23 PM) Brandon Jacobs will be heading to Birmingham according Buddy Bell on WhiteSox Weekly. Said Mitchell, Trayce, and Walker will remain there as well. Mentioned that someone will have to DH every day. And, Michael Earley, who has better numbers at AA than Jacobs at High A. Someone should be going to Charlotte.
  25. QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 08:22 AM) Just judging by stats and the WHite Sox lack of ability to develop position players, I don't see a reason to be optimistic. It seems to me Thompson has the best shot at becoming a solid major league player, but he needs to find consistency. Walker might make eventually get a call up/make a squad just based on how fast he is. Hated both the Mitchell and Hawkins picks when they happened, and I think you can pretty much call Mitchell a bust by now. I almost think Hawkins has a better shot at becoming a major league pitcher than outfielder unless the White Sox have some coach somewhere in the system that is the swing whisper and can fix Hawkins approach and mechanics at bat. He does have big time power though, so that is exciting. Thompson is consistent; that is his problem. Agree on Mitchell. He is currently on the 40 man roster. I wouldn't be surprised if Mitchell is removed and our new guy Jacobs added during the off season.
