  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 08:05 PM) They have money to burn, he can't be on the team next year. Throw your paying customer a bone and end this thing. Agreed. Just put him on the DL and leave him there. Sox should have sent him to the same Doc that is operating on Keppinger.
  2. The Rookie teams in Florida often play in the morning.
  3. I wish I knew if Sox have hit bottom yet. Miami probably has. Houston? Probably not. Cubs? I hope not. SI might have been over the top on the farm system, since Sox had several positive surprises this year (Semian, the Johnson boys. Beck, Goldberg, etc). Who's to say that a couple more might rise from the ashes in 2014. I wish the author would have put more blame on KW, but after re-reading it, he didn't have to. It's obvious. Konerko? I think he should retire. Dunn? That is one of Hahn's dilemmas -- what to do with him, but I hope he is gone, too. I would rather have Andy Wilkins at first base next year.
  4. Why does Robin even put Dunn in the lineup? He looks disinterested, not that I blame him.
  5. Teams take longer between innings. Adds up. Gotta have those commercials.
  6. His BA is sinking fast. Down to .264.. What happened? Now looks like the .300 - hitting Gordo that we saw recently is just a figment of our newton. My question is what value an arbitrator will put on Beckham, because I don't see the Sox volunteering tp pay what they would have had he kept hitting. That said, if his slump continues, they will probably keep playing him. This year end slump has to cost him a lot of money.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2013 -> 06:16 PM) NO one is picking him in the Rule V draft. Let's re-visit this after the Rule V Draft. You might be right, but I see a lot of bad relief pitching every year. Guys who are afraid to throw strikes, etc. I can give you several examples on the Rockies' staff. (Corpus, Lopez, Oswalt). Kussmaul has been solid every year untill he went on the DL a few months ago. Not that this makes a big difference in the grand scheme of things.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 13, 2013 -> 09:02 AM) 27 year old RH reliever repeating AA 2nd full year? Highly doubt it. I will say I am a bit puzzled he wasn't in AAA this year, but he's got marginal stuff. Not worth the slot, IMO. But, he gets hitters out. I bet someone picks him up if not protected. We'll see.
  9. Another decent outing by B'ham RP Ryan Kussmaul, after a lengthy stay on DL. Never did hear what the problem was. Northsider, do you think Sox will protect him?
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 09:09 PM) http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20130910 Great Falls may be done tonight. Engel had a good game and season. Can't remember when a young sox prospect had such a good year starting off. 21 yrs old, great stats, including 31 SB's. Who else was this good in year one? Anthony Webster comes to mind, but I can't remember his stats. Makes me wonder how Engel slipped to the 19th round.
  11. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 10:19 PM) When, then? Mid season next year? Same question for Thompson and Walker, North Sider. How long?
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 09:56 PM) Sure looks that way right now. That is not the same as saying he's a bust, or that he is a bust first and maybe a prospect later. That's just silly. He may be a bust - lots of draft picks are, even 1st rounders. Still way, way early to say that on Hawkins though. When, then? Mid season next year?
  13. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 04:30 PM) Scioscia is signed through 2018, but Jon Morosi of FOXSPORTS is reporting that either Scioscia or Dipoto & possibly even BOTH may be out after this season. Scioscia is only 54 & we all know he is one heck of a manager. Now whether or not we can be contenders next season all determines on how/what we spend on in this off season. If RV doesn't want to continue should Scioscia be #1 on the Sox list or would you like to go a different route? 2018?? Is that a typo? That's crazy to sign any manger for that long, proving once again that GM's continue redefining the word stupid.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 06:18 AM) Why wouldn't he be? 1. Two years at Bristol. 2. Not playing much. 3. Low BA. 4. Other young catchers are playing as much/more.
  15. 1. Pls give your opinion of David Putnam at Kanny/. He's been lights out lately. 2. Balta: Is Sammy Ayala still a prospect?
  16. Since we're talking about third basemen, if, at the beginning of the season, you had told me that Morel would play the entire year injury-free and hit only .260ish with minimal power numbers at Charlotte, I would have bet the house against it. What happened? More importantly, does he figure into Sox plans for 2014? He might be released, since he is on the 40 man. Or is his back still a problem?
  17. What will happen when Bud Light retires?
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 09:11 AM) Well, he gambled on games that he played and managed in. So, yeah, you could say it was unfairly impacted. Is that true? Did he bet on games he played in?
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 09:50 AM) He'll be in the 60-75 range, IMO If KW were running the show, he would have on the trading block.
  20. Hopefully, Petricka can replace him. We'll see.
  21. Maybe Hawk is correct when he predicts good things for Danks in 2014.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 04:18 PM) So, we know he's just an org guy and all, but... I am truly surprised Chris Curley isn't in B-Ham right now. They are playing filler at multiple infield positions now that Semien is gone, they are headed for the playoffs, and Curley leads the Carolina League in a whole host of offensive categories. I agree. Curley hits, Manzella doesn't. Don't get it.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 01:04 PM) I could see a Santiago/Quintana trade to LAA for Bourjos +. When Southsider speculated about Sox trading a pitcher for a 'real hitter', I bet he was thinking about a much better hitter than Bourjos. I know he has some great speed, even tho it hasn't translated to SB's, but Sox need a much bigger bat. Bourjos is not as good as De Aza offensively.
  24. I heard some TV announcer a week or two ago talking about Dunn, saying that IF he averages 40 homers per year for the next four years (after this year) that he will be knocking on the door of 600 lifetime Home Runs and thus earning Hall of Fame consideration. He is currently at 434. Can't remember who said it, might have been one of the ESPN talking heads. He will turn 34 right after season end. I had an immediate gag reflex. His lifetime BA is .240 by the way. I hope that the HOF selectors don't count just HR totals but you never know.
