2014 Draft class
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 07:29 AM) After reading everything, I'm kind of warming up to Nola. He may not have quite the upside of the other 3, but he still has a high end upside and appears to be not only the most likely to reach it, but the most likely to reach it first. Also, if drafting Nola allows us to go overslot with our 2nd and/or 3rd pick then that's worthy of consideration. We aren't overloaded with prospects. If we can get better prospects with our 2/3 picks because we drafted Nola at 1, then with our situation that might be worth it. That being said, and I'm not a big baseball draft guy, but from what I've seen and heard I'd still prefer Rodon. But Nola might be my #2. HS pitchers this early are very risky, Keith Law said last night that Nola could be in the majors this year and in a rotation next year.

Sox Core Strength/Quality
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 04:29 PM) He didn't get enough for Peavey, Rios and Reed, that's for sure. The best trade he made was Soptic for Gillaspie. The Peavy trade was good, can't blame Garcia's injury on Hahn. Got two excellent pitching prospects with Avisail. Peavy has been hit pretty hard this year. Rest of post is valid.

6/3 Games
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 4, 2014 -> 12:23 AM) He's a little long in the tooth for that league, though, isn't he? Age is one thing, number of years in pro ball is another. He's right where he belongs, same as Kevan Smith.

Sale told to cut his beard
QUOTE (MAX @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 04:01 PM) In what world is an unkempt beard offensive? Not in prison Not on a deserted island Not in hoboland

Sale told to cut his beard
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) Athletes aren't role models. At least they shouldn't be. Tell that to little kids. Geez, when I was one, I sure idolized guys like Minoso, Appling, Fox, Pierce, Aparicio, etc.

Players of the Month - May 2014
Thanks for mentioning Kevan Smith. He can obviously hit, but no one lists him anywhere on prospect lists, because he is too, too OLD. Including the White Sox web site. Not going to name names.... Kevan, I hope you keep up the hot streak; I'm pulling for you.

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (Nokona @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 06:36 PM) Am I the only one that doesn't like Rodon's delivery? No, it looks like the delivery of a lefty brought in to face a lefty and then go to showers.

Micker Adolfo report
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 3, 2014 -> 04:22 PM) Courtney Hawkins was the 13th overall draft pick and Micker Adolfo was the #9 prospect who signed for a $1.6 million signing bonus. They're incredibly talented players and both are incredibly young still too. I mean, if you want the Sox to stop bringing in guys with LTP, projectable bodies, incredible bat speed, and off the charts athleticism, that's your prerogative, but maybe we should at least halt the criticism of Adolfo until he has a professional at bat just because he has a similar scouting report to Courtney Hawkins (who, even with a dropping average, has shown the ability to walk and very good power). I think Hawkins had Wite at the back flip.

Are there any adverse reports on any of the big three regarding character/smarts/etc? You get this all the time in football, for obvious reasons.

Sale told to cut his beard
I respect a team wanting its players to look reasonably 'sharp'. Who needs all the excess facial hair. Just play the game. Be a role model. Oakland did it (facial hair) in the 70's and it was kind of cool, but when everyone does it, it is just a bunch of copycats. Maybe the chicks like it; Lillian can opine here. Same with the necklaces made of what looks like woven fabric. Copycats. Maybe the chicks like that, too. Just play the game, and button your shirts, Napier and Gomes et al.

The Oakland Way, and how it can be applied to Sox
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 07:04 PM) Oh yea Marte. Also while doing some research for this thread I ran across the name: Mike MacDougal. Also, Nick Massett was a thing for a minute. Coop can't fix'em all -- but overall the Sox have acquired so much low cost above replacement pitching it's kept them afloat and papered over a really bad position player development history. Other teams have gotten pitchers off the scrap heap who helped.

Semien optioned to AAA
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 10:38 PM) Semien was sent down to make room for activating Abreu tomorrow. Still have no clue what Charlotte will do with all the infielders. Actually, the Charlotte roster is now at 25 includung Semein. Micah due to come back soon will make 26. They have another infielder named Michael Johnson who isn't playing much and is probably expendable.

6/1 Games
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 09:00 PM) How do you give up 8 BB's in 5 innings?? Wow. I think it's called being afraid to put the ball over the plate because then the hitter will hit it very hard.

Semien optioned to AAA
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 02:01 AM) Off the wall question, but did anybody ever sign Keppinger? Nope.

AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 04:29 PM) Even more so in person He made pitching look very easy on TV.

Cespedes....
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 11:16 AM) What an absolutely bizarre thing to ask. No, the answer is 26.

Semien optioned to AAA
I thought either Leury or Sierra would have been sent down or DFA'd. Or De Aza, preferably.

5/31 games
QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 10:32 AM) Oh no doubt. And Davidson is only 22 or 23. So I'm not worried yet. And I like Gillaspie so I'm fine with it. It gives us a good LH bat No reason for you to be worried about Davidson. Hahn should be worried.

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 08:36 AM) Well, I would HOPE Fedde would be on the list, due to that TJ surgery. Hoffman wasn't on the list, and he had TJS.

2014 Draft class
Just read an interesting report on players to avoid in first round. Gatewood, Toussaint, Fedde, Beede, Harrison, Kopeck. 5 days to go.

5/31 games
DSL Sox left Micker on the bench.

Padres vs White Sox 1:10 CT
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 31, 2014 -> 05:08 PM) I guess DeAza had yet another bad/questionable fielding play in the early innings, not cutting off a ball that got past him. He really looks like toast. I saw the play. Terrible effort. Announcers said nothing. It did not lead to any extra runs.
-
Padres vs White Sox 1:10 CT
De Aza has reached that level of futility where Hawk makes excuses for him.
-
Padres vs White Sox 1:10 CT
That's the Adam Dunn we all know. Overpaid and overdue.

5/30 Games
QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2014 -> 09:43 PM) Trayce just can't get it going this year. Disappointing to see his development go backwards. At this stage, it's hard to imagine him becoming a big leaguer. Same with Mitchell and Walker. Walker has now struck out in over half his AB's. Cannot imagine Thompson, Mitchell, or Walker being on the 40 man next year.
