  1. QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2014 -> 12:47 PM) Very odd it's not Sierra playing I think Sierra has played himself off the team, just waiting for Abreu to come off the DL, then Sierra goes. Unless someone else gets hurt. Unless Semien gets sent down. Or Leury Garcia.

It seems that with the collection of players in the Sox farm system that they would be able to find room for Sammy Ayala somewhere, just to see if he has a future in the game. Northsider, do you have a list of players held over at advanced spring training?
  3. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 23, 2014 -> 11:12 PM) Hawks Hell Yes was classic. ESPN played Hawk's call on Baseball Tonight. "Yes, Yes, Hell Yes."
  4. Watching the KC feed on tonight's game, and the announcer talked about Casey Gillespie -- likely first rounder from Witchita State.
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ May 21, 2014 -> 01:35 AM) In his defense, he is walking a bunch Picked off twice last night..... Still on 4 man, however.
  6. Hawk was around for the Honel, Strum fiascos. Sox are 0 for 2 and overdue.
  7. Without looking at his splits, Downs has been very effective the last few weeks. His ERA will never get to be low with his awful start. It is now an irrelevant stat for him. That was a huge strikeout in 9th inning.
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 19, 2014 -> 07:26 AM) It's draftnik actually. Draftnik is a term describing those who study professional sports leagues drafts, and cover the draft in the media. The term is most often used in reference to the NFL Draft and was coined in the mid-1980s after the draft was first televised by ESPN. -Wikipedia. What was the first ".......nik"? Beatnik, perhaps?
  9. Who cares? Today's announcers talk waaay too much. Most are a bunch of babbling brooks who like to hear themselves talk. Geez, they talk about anything. Reminds me of an old song that came out in the '50's, I believe: "You Talk Too Much". It's like if there is ever three seconds of silence, they think they are not doing their job. They act like the audience is stupid and can't get through the game without them. And you guys want more conversation?? Maybe a few more promos to listen to? My solution is to put the TV on mute and turn the stereo on. If something happens and I want the audio, I have a remote in both hands.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2014 -> 01:47 PM) Trayce 0-2 with 2K....hard to consider him a prospect now, as he's having a horrible season. Sox still have him # 6 rated prospect in their updated list.
  11. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 18, 2014 -> 11:59 AM) Also found a way to make an error. What an abortion of signing that one has turned out to be. Right up there with Mitch Boggs, although Paulino is a bit more expensive.
  12. The SI cover jinx is still alive.
  13. Does Ventura ever take him aside and tell him how bad he is?
  14. Dan Hayes at Kanny had a slow start start, now over .280 with some power. I'd rank him ahead of Barnum for now.
  15. QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ May 16, 2014 -> 02:36 PM) There are a lot of players that are currently flying under the radar that should draw some optimism, Nick Basto is having a very solid year at the plate although from all reports his glove is severely behind. Someone else mentioned Trey Michalczewski at Kannapolis as someone to keep an eye on, I'd also like to mention the guy that has been hitting behind him as well someone else to keep an eye on going forward, Carl Thomore. He's had a challenging start to career, after being drafted in the second round by the Rockies he severely injured his leg during a slide at third (some people at the scene thought amputation was a strong possibility). This pretty much derailed his career for the next year, we signed him after he was cut loose by the Rockies as a reclamation project. His numbers aren't impressive but there is a lot of untapped potential if he can remain healthy and develop. Beyond those two you also have Adam Engel and Cleuluis Rondon in the lineup that have a lot of upside, in fact I'd say that Kannapolis has the most exciting mix of prospects within our organization. I just wish Sox would move Sammy Ayala up to Kanny. Not that current catchers there are not playing well, but he has spent two years at Bristol. Why can't we sit Williams for 2 weeks or so and let someone else DH (a catcher perhaps) so Ayala can get some playing time?

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ May 17, 2014 -> 05:50 AM) Agreed, he is on his way to CF. Can he hit well enough to play there? He does not look like a good #1 draft pick at this time.
  17. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 16, 2014 -> 10:20 PM) The Soptic deal is looking pretty good. Correct. Soptic still at High A, pitching in relief with so-so results
  18. Could not help noticing that Houston catcher Castro, whom everyone here wanted to trade for, is hitting .217.

IMO, like I'm sure most of us, he has done a tremendous job overhauling this team to make it a young yet competitive team that can push for the playoffs if not this season but for sure down the road. What are your guys' thoughts so far on his moves and if I missed anything, please tell me and I can edit this and possibly we can sticky this while we monitor Hahn's moves in the future. I think it would be beneficial to us to see how well he has done so far for this team in a short period of time. Kepp was signed for 3 yrs, $12MM, I believe. Thanks for a great summary.
  20. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 14, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) I'm fine with him going to High-A. That's not a terribly huge jump. But they better leave him in High-A the rest of the season (barring playoff experiences). Jumping up again to AA in a couple months may be too large a task. Playoffs!!! Playoffs??
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 13, 2014 -> 09:17 PM) What the heck does that have to do with anything? Only the serious prospect followers will have a clue who Fuentes is. I thought Admins were serious prospect followers, like you.
  22. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 13, 2014 -> 04:48 PM) Not to be impudent, but does anyone put any weight into what Harold Reynolds says? I swear the guy does no prep work for his shows and it seems like he barely keeps up with baseball at all. Agreed. Empty suit. He gets chased out of ESPN for some sort of harrassment issue, MLB picks him up, and he wears nice clothes and babbles away.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 13, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) I have never heard that name before. And you're an Admin?
  24. The more I think about the reasons not to draft the top three pitchers, I feel like the Sox will fool a lot of us and might actually take a position player. Who is the best college hitter available in the draft?
  25. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ May 13, 2014 -> 09:57 AM) I think we've got this all wrong... The reporter misquoted Ventura. He was actually referring to one of the players' wives as being "flat" I thought the beer was flat.
