QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 3, 2014 -> 02:44 PM) You guys think I'm a moron for saying this all the time, but Nate Jones' arm delivery is awful. I only saw one other guy throw like that, Keith Foulke. I don't know how any pitching coach can allow him to pitch that way. Some of you guys who were pitchers ... do u agree with me?? His arm delivery is not conducive to anything positive. Ubaldo does it. Omograsso did, too.

Semien is pressing, needs a break.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 04:23 PM) Eaton hasn't had the best of games. He needs an IQ test.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 03:37 PM) That's the part that makes absolutely no sense to me. You can't just give him 2B because Eaton dropped the ball. That's like assuming Plouffe would have been at 2B. But he clearly wasn't. He was running back towards first when Eaton "dropped" the ball. All Garcia had to do was to walk over and step on second. Once time was called, it was too late.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 2, 2014 -> 03:33 PM) f***ing Luery didn't even step on 2B. What a twat. Not only that, but Idiot Eaton not only drops the easiest fly ball of the year, but then he can't even throw it in to second, three hopping his throw to the inept utility infielder, L Garcia. Just play the game, boys.

Among the worst Sox trades were the ones involving Aparicio (twice) and Callison. I always pulled for them both.

Hahn's Impact on Lineup/Closer Role and the Deadline
oldsox replied to kevtrem's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I have watched Lindstrom for several years now, going back at least to his last year with Houston. I don't have stats to back this up, but my feeling is that he starts out the season very well, then, after 2-3 months, he loses effectiveness. Hahn prob senses this, too. So, why not make him the closer til June? And, who is Rock? -
Hahn's Impact on Lineup/Closer Role and the Deadline

Everyone wants Davidson to be the future at third, but first he has to hit at Charlotte. -
Sale only guy on staff south of 200.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 08:34 PM) Hated missing this game. Pass along any eaton highlights or the Abreu double. Hawk sounded like he was in a great mood. Abreu hit that double to right so freaking hard.....the right fielder was handcuffed, confused, etc. Abreu is the real deal.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 03:24 PM) How does this ump seem on TV? Lots of new umps, it seems. And, they are very young. -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 30, 2014 -> 11:04 PM) I see Omogrosso was released and the Sox have sold off a few organizational pitchers in the last week. A casualty of the Boggs re-signing?

Surely, the Yanks and Hahn must have talked about Beckham. Wish I knew the details.
-
Sox should jettison both Dunn and Keppinger, salaries notwithstanding. Probably Konerko too, but I have too much respect for him to put him in that same category.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 28, 2014 -> 06:51 PM) Hawk in the booth...still saying Semien won two league MVPs last year. Not true. Maybe he's thinking about Semien winning the league MVP and Micah Johnson winning the postseason MVP. Hawk is an idiot, and somebody should have corrected him on that. Hawk doesn/t sound well at all. Medically, that is.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2014 -> 12:49 AM) Well, the only other options out there that will make a significant impact are Headley and Hanley Ramirez. If we could actually believe in Ramirez playing a competent level of MLB SS, I'd take that risk over Headley or Sandoval, simply because of the importance of getting offense from another position on the field...with a premium on big numbers from your two middle infielders. Of course, Ramirez has a lot of wear and tear on him, and significant injuries over the last 2-3 seasons. That said, if he was available for 3-4 years, I'd absolutely roll the dice on him...but I'd have to be 100% confident he was 1) past all of his injuries and 2) capable of playing SS for 140-145 games. All of these question marks will somewhat limit his demands for anything much above $100 million. That said, Ramirez is getting older and it would be another version of the Adam Dunn acquisition...where you're basically forced to compete in the NOW (like the Royals with Shields) and that would also mean you would have to address catcher, bullpen (if it's shaky all this season) and possibly one spot in the rotation. Ramirez would be 31 at the beginning of 2014, but, in reality, in terms of wear and tear, playing from the age of 14-15-16, etc., he's more like 33-34. It also doesn't address the LH issue. Eaton Semien or A.Garcia Abreu Hanley Ramirez Viciedo/DeAza (DH position, rotating all the outfielders and infielders) A.Garcia (hitting 2nd or 6th) LF Davidson Catcher Semien (hitting 2nd or 9th) That would give you five guys with a lot of power, one with a combination (DeAza), ??? at catcher and then Semien and Eaton for your speed/aggressiveness/small ball attack. Not true. Rockies are overloaded with Lefty outfielders (Blackmon and Dickerson) and, according to recent articles, they would love to trade one for either a pitcher or right handed hitting outfielder. Both are already good, hitters, better than our duo in left.. And still relatively cheap.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 27, 2014 -> 06:57 AM) As Dan said on Wimmer. For Ayala, he only played sparingly both years at Bristol, so I'm not totally sure he's set for Kanny. Really hard to say, he may be there, but if I had to bet, I'd say he's at Great Falls. He's only played 57 games total over that two years, hasn't hit well, and has shown very low walk rates and K rates over 25%. He's also just 19 even now, so there is no need to rush him, especially as a catcher. Still, 3 years in Rookie Ball is a lot, maybe a record. Of course, they may not have room for him on the Kanny roster. If he is still a viable prospect, he needs to be playing as opposed to another 2.5 months in advanced ST. I never understood why he didn't play more last year....

MLB.Com had a nice piece on Cleto. How Cooper changed his delivery, bring his glove higher and doing away with the dreaded slide step.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 26, 2014 -> 12:47 PM) I suppose it has something to do with this: http://articles.latimes.com/2012/nov/02/sp...oulder-20121102 Maybe they just thought his 2013 results were an accurate representation of his health. Mr. Rehab?? In any other profession, he would be deemed to have a drinking problem. great nickname.

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Mar 26, 2014 -> 04:31 PM) Little miggy with a triple and De Aza with a sac fly That was good base running -- stretching an easy double into a triple. He cut the corner at second, good slide at third. He then came in on a sac fly.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 26, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) Trey Wimmer, catcher drafted just last year, tweets he is out of baseball. No idea what happened there - release, injury, retirement or what. That one is a bit of a surprise, I thought he'd be starting in Kanny. I guess Dillon Haupt or Zach Fisher are there instead, or maybe Martin Medina. I doubt Sammy Ayala is ready for that jump. He should be after 2 yrs at Bristol. Just curious, what was Wimmer's signing bonus? Maybe it financed med school, which makes him a smart, practicle dude.

Who is J Pedroza? 2B, Charlotte.

Good article, Northsider. I've always liked Smith and have followed him since we signed him. He needs a solid season at Birmingham.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 24, 2014 -> 12:35 PM) Not a chance from the Sox perspective. Their loss. Winning teams needs guys like L Garcia on the team. He reminds me of a lesser Rafael Furcal. A lot lesser. Furcal was tremendous when he came up with Braves.
