  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 13, 2014 -> 09:17 PM) What the heck does that have to do with anything? Only the serious prospect followers will have a clue who Fuentes is. I thought Admins were serious prospect followers, like you.
  2. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 13, 2014 -> 04:48 PM) Not to be impudent, but does anyone put any weight into what Harold Reynolds says? I swear the guy does no prep work for his shows and it seems like he barely keeps up with baseball at all. Agreed. Empty suit. He gets chased out of ESPN for some sort of harrassment issue, MLB picks him up, and he wears nice clothes and babbles away.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 13, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) I have never heard that name before. And you're an Admin?
  4. The more I think about the reasons not to draft the top three pitchers, I feel like the Sox will fool a lot of us and might actually take a position player. Who is the best college hitter available in the draft?
  5. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ May 13, 2014 -> 09:57 AM) I think we've got this all wrong... The reporter misquoted Ventura. He was actually referring to one of the players' wives as being "flat" I thought the beer was flat.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2014 -> 06:39 PM) Considering they DFA'd the guy, I don't think they have a lot of faith in him. They still have to pay him.
  7. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 12, 2014 -> 04:31 PM) Viciedo is better than Avi Garcia. Disagree, assuming the injury heals properly. Look at his 2013 record.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 12, 2014 -> 10:57 AM) watching him stumble around on the first pop fly yesterday, at that point i was done. i give a lot of leash to players, and his leash finally has reached its end. now watch him tear it up When I first saw that play, I thought De Aza was drunk, but then I realized a drunk could have easily caught that fly ball.

    Good chance Phegley is on Sox team in 2015, Nieto getting his dose of AAA. Barring trades, injuries, of course.
  10. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 10, 2014 -> 08:36 PM) Someone tell Bill we didn't get Eaton and Davidson for Reed. Just Davidson. Eaton for Santiago
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ May 10, 2014 -> 04:03 PM) Capra was on White Sox Weekly just a few minutes ago: - It sounds like the organization is fed up with Jared Mitchell. To quote Capra, "Mitchell is just a little too damn stubborn". I was shocked at how candid he was about Mitchell. He said they recently had a heart-to-heart with him about changing up some things at the plate. - They really like Micah Johnson and Semien. - Hawkins looks like a plus defender in LF, as he's made good changes at the plate. Capra said even if Hawkins was demoted last year, he probably still would have struggled. - T. Anderson has shown he can stick at SS for now. Very streaky at the plate. - M. Davidson has too many moving parts at the plate, so they're trying to fix that. He said Matt lost confidence early in the year, but they think he'll snap out of it. - N. Fuentes is someone to keep an eye on in Birmingham, according to Capra. - C. Beck has command issues, and his fastball is his best pitch of the 4 pitches he throws. Maybe Fuentes will replace Francisco at Charlotte...
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ May 10, 2014 -> 04:16 PM) I heard that Capra interview. The sigh when Rongey asked about Mitchell was all you really needed to hear. But then he spoke, and it was pretty shocking how much he said. Rongey also sounded dumb a couple times during that interview. It's obvious he didn't know Hawkins was at W-S last year, and didn't know about Anderson and Davidson's recent injuries. All he has to do is read SoxTalk once a day and he would know a lot more.
  13. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 10, 2014 -> 02:05 PM) That's why it's an over/under Elrockin prob never made an over/under bet with a bookie......

    Mitchell Boggs did it again.
  15. Sounds like a young Aranado.
  16. .....speaking of the Eaton trade, Hector Code Red Santiago got lit up by the Yanks yesterday. Now 0-6, ERA of 5.19.

    QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ May 7, 2014 -> 09:40 PM) And it's not looking pretty, since the pitching is getting demolished every game. Overall, 3 of the 4 minor league teams are around at below .400 winning percentage. Top 3 teams in system are collectively 24 games under .500.
  18. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 6, 2014 -> 09:53 AM) Welcome to Soxtalk! Here is the original thread from when the trade was made: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...t=0&start=0 I guess a brief summary would be that the Sox have had success in the past developing closers, felt that they could continue doing so rather than continue to pay escalating arbitration, and eventually free agency salaries to Reed, and also felt that Davidson could be a long-term impact bat at 3B when they have not had such a thing for quite a while. That was interesting, going back and re-reading that thread. Thanks. There was only one member here who said that he did not like the trade.
  19. Don't know where to put this useless trivia, since we don't have a catch all thread, but.... I was switching channels during commercial breaks and flipped over to the Rockies/Ranger game and who shows up for Texas but Aaron Poredo. Struck out Cargo.
  20. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ May 5, 2014 -> 08:18 PM) De Aza murdering a rally. Next he'll screw up in the field. If anyone here thinks he has trade value in July, go back to this episode.
  21. Why do players insist on sliding head first? False hustle, stupidity, bad breeding, ineffective coaching? I just don't understand. The really, really great baserunners of yesteryear -- Wills, Brock, Cobb, Robinson, Dimaggio, Aparicio, Minoso, Sherm Lollar -- all slid feet first. Then we got Pete Rose, who was pretty good, and he changed it all. Ricky Henderson was pretty good head first, but the rest of them need their heads examined.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2014 -> 10:52 AM) WHITE SOX MAKE THREE ROSTER MOVES FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sunday, May 4, 2014 CLEVELAND – Prior to today’s game at Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox added outfielder Moises Sierra to the active roster and sent third baseman Conor Gillaspie to Class AAA Charlotte on an injury rehabilitation assignment. Sierra, 25, was claimed off waivers from Toronto on Saturday and takes the roster spot of left-handed pitcher Frank De Los Santos, who was optioned to Charlotte following last night’s game against the Indians. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Sierra was designated for assignment on May 1 after going 2-34 (.059) in 34 games with the Blue Jays this season. He batted .290 (31-107) with 13 RBI and 11 runs scored in 35 games with Toronto in 2013, including a .317 (26-82) average with 12 doubles and 11 RBI in September. Sierra ranked among the AL September leaders in doubles (3rd), extra-base hits (T4th, 14), slugging percentage (8th, .524) and on-base percentage (9th, .385). Sierra is a career .229 hitter (66-288) with seven home runs and 30 RBI in 97 games over three seasons with Toronto (2012-14). He will wear uniform No. 25. Gillaspie, 26, has been on the 15-day disabled list since April 26 (retro to April 22) with a left hand contusion. He is batting .302 (19-63) with 12 RBI and eight runs scored in 16 games with the White Sox this season. Is he related to Reuben Sierra?
  23. And, on the subject of future ex-Sox pitchers, Tampa just DFA'd Heath Bell, who would fit right in to Rick Hahn's bullpen acquisitions.
  24. On the subject of ex-Sox pitchers, the Braves activated Gavin Floyd and will start him next Tuesday. Fast recovery.
