  1. Even Hawk was giving some love to AAA farmhand Andy Wilkins. No one else does, even the Top 20 prospect list on the team web site. He is not on it, but a bunch of non-performers are. Wilkins is hitting the cover off the ball, leading the league in HR's, and not a mention. Same on FutureSox in all those top 10/20 lists. Not that I criticizing FutureSox, because I really like it. Kudos to Hawk.
  2. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 11:01 AM) Matt Davidson- how he has overcome his struggles from the beginning of the season and through the thumb injury. JB Wendelken- hows the adjustment coming to a new organization and how he has adjusted through the year. Not to be negative, but what has he overcome?
  3. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 07:46 PM) 1.335 OPS in July. Even Cooperstown Kris would take that. Davidson K's are spiking again. I think we're looking at a guy with a poor-man's-Mark Reynolds-ceiling, but more likely Mike Olt. Contact issues are major. Would love to be wrong. You're not.
  4. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 05:51 PM) Who's he better than right now? Maybe Taylor Thompson but we just don't know that yet. If Sergio had spent the season in Charlotte, I don't think his record would be as good as Thompson's. Of that, I am 99.9999% certain. By the way, who mgave that contract to Sergio, Kenny or Toronto?
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) That would be the point. The White Sox would only pick up salary if it offered them a solid return in prospects. Right now, if I were Oakland or Seattle and Dunn was put on waivers I'd grab him to fortify my lineup/bench at a reasonable cost given the time remaining. The Sox ought to be able to save some money on him at least. I wonder how many times Sox have put Dunn on waivers....
  6. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 12:10 AM) He has a sub .300 OBP in the minors. That is horrendous strike zone recognition. I had hoped we left that preference for low OBP ball when Ozzie left town. Not quite true. He also got off to a terrible start in April-May. He keeps improving, even his OBP. If he has a good final 6 wks in AAA, why not move him up? If Sox don't protect him in off-season, he will be gone.
  7. I'd take any of those three guys from Colorado outfield. I watch the Rockies a lot. Not sure how much pitching they would want for Cargo, but the thought of him in White Sox uni makes me salivate. He'll get it together for someone.
  8. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 02:16 PM) They'd probably rather give us CarGo. Can't tell if you are kidding or not, Andy. One of those guys will be available in off season, especially if they re-sign Cuddyer. Cargo is still struggling, going 0 for 5 last night, all strikeouts.
  9. Back to Kemp. Hitless in first game after All Star break; not playing in second game. The Dodgers situation is almost comical with Kemp, Crawford and Ethier all struggling and all with enormous contracts. A tribute to GeneralManagerhood.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 09:14 AM) How'd the system get so s***ty? Even in 2007 it wasn't so bad, but I guess trades and poor drafting added to it and the Latin American scandal Poorly drafted: Broadway, McCullouch, Lumsden Traded Away: Richard, Poreda, Hudson, Gio Kenny W. Ravelo should be #3. Geez, He's hitting .320 in AA and he's 22.
  11. When does Cuba run out of players?
  12. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 08:06 PM) Please be gone, Gordo. Let's make this divorce short and sweet. We ain't gettin' squat, so even a DFA is fine with me at this point. I don't want to sound cynical, Stan, but but that's probably what it's down to. Beckham will have zero trade value in off season and all teams know it. Speaking of second basemen, Braves DFA'd Uggla today.
  13. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 07:55 PM) Strikes me as a bit unfair that second run was earned for Q, a single that reached third due to an error scoring on a groundout. Is it because there was a walk and a single after? yes
  14. Not a good slide by Eaton.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 07:12 AM) He throws 99 MPH. Sometimes, you take a chance on these guys and they turn into all stars. Forget about his numbers. Maybe it's OK to stop being cynical at every turn and realize that they can also just get rid of this guy for virtually no cost whatsoever too. There is no risk and a very high reward. slight exaggeration.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 01:29 PM) At some point it sure seems like someone is going to take enormous losses on that deal. It might be TWC only but if they got any guarantees from the Dodgers to cover their tails in the deal, it could bite the Dodgers seriously as well. Interesting article, Balta. Had no idea that Dodgers had all those troubles with Cable. Also, this is first time I have ever seen someone publicly go after Magic Johnson. Thought he was bullet proof. Thanks.
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 02:56 PM) That article conveniently omits how many walks he has thrown. ...Or that his BA against is .322. Colorado has a worse pitching staff tha White Sox; so we pick up Raul and put him on the 40 man roster...
  18. The Astros screwed up a wet dream.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 07:27 AM) Lindstrom was very mediocre anyway, and Jones had no closer experience, still prefer him as a set-up man for what should be Reed...or reincarnated Jenks...Reed probably could have gave us a dozen more wins this first half alone Hey, I found someone who agrees witn me, but watch out for the onslaught from Mr. Wite.
  20. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 07:01 AM) Sickels just came out with his midseason Top 75 not including any 2014 draft picks. No Sox players on the list. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2014/7/14/5...te-2014-sickels Geez, the scrubs have five
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 01:47 PM) Maybe if we are that intent on trading our DP combo it would behoove us to wait until after the season. I think there is too much pressure mid-season and we might not get a good return. I think Adam Dunn is the exception as far as waiting unless we figure on a new deal at less money Beckham will have zero trade value in off season. No team will want to go to arbitration with him, because that team would then be stuck with the arb award. If Sox non tender him, he is then a FA and will have to sign at a lower salary. Sox get nothing that way. Trading him in July won't get much either, but it creates an opportinity for one for our minor league infielders to get some AB's.
  22. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 13, 2014 -> 10:43 AM) You don't "use an option" on a guy when you bring him up. You use an option year when he is on the 40-man roster and assigned to the minors at any point during the season. So Sanchez has already burned an option year this year and no amount of bringing him up and sending him down affects that. Correct. He was already on the 40 man. I'm pulling for Sanchez big time. This is his 6th year in the Sox organization, starting in the DSL and working his way up, making all the stops along the way. I'm sure he has had his share of adversity, but he made it to The Show. Good for him.
  23. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 08:54 PM) I notice that too, but he's a guy who can hit at a high average and has might have the best contact skills in the farm but that should be something that comes down with experience. I like comparing his stats to Corey Seager of the Dodgers at this time last year and I think that he is doing better. Just curious, Josh, but why are you comparing Trey to Corey Seager?
  24. Fathom vs Balta. I vote for Fathom. 14 errors is too many. If he can hit at higher levels, his defense will get plenty of attention.
  25. Baseball is different than other industries. Every time a player sets a new a level, the players know it's god for everyone. Not the same for a company that makes widgets.
