7/18 Games
Coats started heating up about a week ago at Kanny. He had tailed off some, probably because he never played 90-100 games in a season before.

All the GM's are together in New York for most of this week and on expense accounts. Something is bound to happen.

Let's talk about Adam Dunn destinations
Just yesterday I was reading a Colorado Rockies blog called Purple Row in which that writer recommended the Rox acquiring Dunn and putting him at first base, because they (Rockies) have been getting little production there. Had to laugh, cuz it won't happen, but wish it would. I can get the link if anyone cares.

Brandon Jacobs not yet arrived in B'ham, or at least he is not on their roster yet. How long does it take to ge there from Portland?

7/14 at Phillies
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 06:20 PM) I still think our luck will change enough to stack up more wins than we saw in the first half. And you probably think Courtney Hawkins is a sure fire major league superstar in the making, worthy of top 5 prospect ranking.

Mike Recchia has put up great numbers at Kanny. Did not play last year.

Gordon Beckham
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 10:52 PM) SARCASM? I can't speak for Jake, but I don't think he was sarcastic. Stone gave credit to Manto for Beckham the other day (Rios as well).

Managing a Rebuilding Team Wouldn't Scare Ventura
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 08:45 AM) 1. Granderson and Pence? Granderson is old, injury prone, bad defensively, and strikes out 25% of the time. Pence is a no-patience hack with a 6% walk rate and .309 OBP -- which is precisely what this team does not need. I think you are selling Pence a bit short. Pretty good player, probably seen his best days, but he'll get some offers. He'll do better in a smaller park.

Managing a Rebuilding Team Wouldn't Scare Ventura
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 11:31 AM) I asked Dan Hayes if he'd stand by his comment to me earlier in the season that the FO has "endless goodwill" for Robin. I said is he a guy they're committed to long-term? He said "without question." Hawk interviewed Hayed early in the Phils game, and I wasn't able to hear it. Was anything said of value?

Not as exciting as trade talk . . . - DOUBLEHEADER!!
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 05:14 PM) So would they still plan to empty the park and then have a 2nd game? Wouldn't the ticketholders for the 2nd game have arrived hours ago? Why didn't they start game 1 at 1 PM EST? Is there a union rule that pertains?

Matt Thornton to Boston
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 01:23 PM) Brandon Jacobs will be heading to Birmingham according Buddy Bell on WhiteSox Weekly. Said Mitchell, Trayce, and Walker will remain there as well. Mentioned that someone will have to DH every day. And, Michael Earley, who has better numbers at AA than Jacobs at High A. Someone should be going to Charlotte.

Matt Thornton to Boston
QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 08:22 AM) Just judging by stats and the WHite Sox lack of ability to develop position players, I don't see a reason to be optimistic. It seems to me Thompson has the best shot at becoming a solid major league player, but he needs to find consistency. Walker might make eventually get a call up/make a squad just based on how fast he is. Hated both the Mitchell and Hawkins picks when they happened, and I think you can pretty much call Mitchell a bust by now. I almost think Hawkins has a better shot at becoming a major league pitcher than outfielder unless the White Sox have some coach somewhere in the system that is the swing whisper and can fix Hawkins approach and mechanics at bat. He does have big time power though, so that is exciting. Thompson is consistent; that is his problem. Agree on Mitchell. He is currently on the 40 man roster. I wouldn't be surprised if Mitchell is removed and our new guy Jacobs added during the off season.

7/12 Games
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 08:24 PM) It's almost like they have to do something with Hawkins right now, but what? Can you just pull the plug on his season, send him to Instructional League, and start all over next year? Yes. He is not doing himself any good this way. I wonder when he last had his eyes checked.

Zapata and other DSL or pre-DSL prospects
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 02:29 PM) Personally I would have ranked Zapata and would have had him top 5, but I can certainly understand the argument for leaving him out. How can you rank a 16 year old who has only played wherever 16 year olds from St. Thomas play. Is he sked for DSL next year?

FS Midseason Top 25 Prospects
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 08:56 AM) Here is the 11-25 portion of the list. On Friday we'll publish the Top 10, full list and a list of players who just missed. The five contributing voters were Balta1701, danman31, Jake, NorthsideSideSox72 and witesoxfan. Discuss... EDIT TO ADD LINK TO FULL LIST: HERE IT IS How come Jason is not on the voting team?

Gordon Beckham
Caulfield is correct. Hawk has really been on the Beckham Bandwagon lately. Yesterday he called him the best hitter on the team (or was it Stone), he has always talked about his energy, defense, etc. Not that it isn't true. Even when GB pulled his bonehead play and wiped out the 3B on that pop up, Hawk went easy on him. I still would like to know if he could play short on a regular basis.

Gordon Beckham
Now what's he gonna cost at the arbitration table? Bend over, Jerry.

4 possible targets (now or in the offseason), Colvin, Bourjos, LoMo, M
Rockies just sent down Colvin yesterday. Don't know what happened to him. Looks like he forgot how to hit, looks terrible. Must be taking the opposite of PED's -- whatever that is. Last year he was very good.

Zapata and other DSL or pre-DSL prospects
I'm not giving up on Sanchez. Just turned 21, prob moved up to AAA too soon, but that's ok. Still improving every year, 7 weeks to go in 2013 season. With a second year in AAA next season, he'll be better. If he turns out to be a super utility player his first few years in majors, who cares?

Ventura and Hahn in closed door meeting
Probably blaming each other.

Luis Castillo not on our DSL roster

Since this thread is about shortstops, why doesn't Robin find out if Beckham can play like a big league SS?
