Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
Last June we Drafted Tyler Danish with #2 pick. Now he is a top prospect. Why give up that same 2014 pick to the Skankies?

Offseason Top Prospects lists
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 02:07 PM) Montas is supposed to be a raw, big arm, correct? Part of the Peavy trade. Pitched better at Kanny than with the BoSox A team.

Interviewing Dan Black
Right now, it looks like Black and Wilkins will both be at Charlotte next year. Should be interesting.

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 12:08 PM) Granderson's not going to leave $14.1 million on the table, only to turn around and earn $8 million and $8 million the two following years (in your $30 million, 3 year scenario of a long-term deal). Or he might end up firing his agent for telling him to reject that one year QO. He would not be the first player to get bad advice from his agent and thus leave a lot of money on the table.

Juan Uribe 3B
It's been alsomst 10 years since we traded Aaron Miles to the Rockies for Uribe. Both had decent careers. Time flies.

Offseason Top Prospects lists
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 11:25 PM) Why are you so sure Sanchez will have a big year in Carlotte? He played there last year and had an OPS of .589 over a full season. Because of his age for starters. He was awfully young to go to Charlotte last season, plus he improved a lot in the last 6 weeks or so of the season. I don't have those splits in front of me, but that is my recollection. I just see a major improvement in him for 2014. I hope we see a lot of Sanchez and Micah Johnson at short and 2B next year at AAA.

I like Sanchez, too. If he starts the season in Charlotte, which is likely, he should have a big year, making it a choice between Sanchez, Semien, Micah J, and Anderson for 2015. Love it.

Interviewing Dan Black
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 12, 2013 -> 09:53 AM) As far as the Rule V draft, he's got 5 years in the minors (drafted in 2009), so he is exposed to the Rule V now. He is exposed to both the AAA/MLB and AA/AAA portions. A team could theoretically take him in the MLB portion, but I think the chances of that are basically zero. A team MIGHT take a AA/AAA flyer on him though (they'd have to pay 50k, keep him in AAA all season, or else return him for 25k), in fact he's among only a few players that I think have some risk. But even then the risk is fairly low. Thanks for the draft explanation. Looking back on his career stats, I don't see why Sox kept him at Bristol in his second year (2010). He has hit every year as he moved up the ladder, and his biggest flaw per SoxTalk is that he is always too old for his league. 2010 was a wasted year for him.

Interviewing Dan Black
Does he expect to be with Charlotte in 2014? When will he be exposed to the draft, since he's had five years in Sox system. Just wonder what he thinks about Sox being the right organization for him....... What reaction did he have when Sox signed Abreu, since they play same position? I know the answer is obvious, but he might have some interesting comments.

Is there a market for Dunn
I always hoped Baltimore would be interested in Dunn as a DH. Short right field, etc. I don't see anyone else being interested.

Saltalamacchia
Speaking of Free Agents, has anyone seen who is represented by Boros? And, is he still on the White Sox no talk to list? I see he thinks Steve Drew is worth $22 million. Does not bother me if he stays away.

Merkin attempts positive Beckham article
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 9, 2013 -> 03:19 PM) It's all about where a guy was drafted. Beckham was drafted high so people are slow to realize/admit he's just another second baseman. If he's an 8th round pick, most everybody would be in agreement he's just not very good. Correct. Maybe a year from now you could say the same thing about young Mr. Hawkins, unfortunately. Hope not.

Non Tender Candidates
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 7, 2013 -> 03:44 PM) Flowers might get $1 million, and even if you offer him arb and he wins, can't you release him during spring training and pay him 20% or some sort? Don't think so. Arbitration is binding.

Sox minor leaguer Blount suspended 50 games
Wonder if his 50 game suspension starts in June when the Rookei League season starts, or in April when the other leagues start?

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Nov 6, 2013 -> 10:47 PM) No and he probably won't accept it. The reason it's probably over for the Sox is they would have to give up their 2nd round draft pick and probably aren't willing to do so for a player of Grandersons caliber. Correct. Granderson ain't gonna happen.

Sox Sign Jose Abreu - 6/$68 million
Just read the other day that Rockies offered him $63 Large, makes Sox offer of $68 more sensible.

MLBTR Top 50 Free Agent Predictions

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
Is Granderson getting a QO from Yanks? I hate giving up more draft choices. With Elsbury and McCann, that's a given. Not sure about Grandy.

Congratulations to Jake Peavy & Matt Thornton
I felt that Jake was lucky he did not have to pitch game 7.

Roy Halladay
Halliday reminds me of Roy Oswalt. Rockies will probably sign him.

Sox likely to be quiet in free agency after Abreu
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 1, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) Catcher is first, second, and third on that list. If they don't come up with some sort of constituency plan at catcher this offseason, even with Abreu signed, it's a complete failure. You can't count on Flowers or Phegley. If nothing else, bring another catching prospect into the system, even if it means trading Santiago or even Quintana for one. The system has quite a few infielders right now with quite a few of them likely capable of covering 3B if necessary. They have 3 capable outfielders and could look to bring in more. For all intents and purposes, they have zilch for catchers right now. Yorvit Torrealba is on the FA list. Rockies let him go, partly to save money. He played well last year. Better than our guys at catcher.

2 Realistic trade options I came up with
Alexei would be a huge upgrade for Cards. They might come calling. If so, Hahn will have the edge in the negotiation process and will not have to give up much else. Trouble is, we don't need Adams as much as we did two weeks ago, and Wacha is probably off limits, and they probably don't have a catcher that can step in and play. Maybe they will take Dunn off our hands.
