  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) They deserved it. Let's go Reds! BTW, Hudson pitched a great game tonight.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 09:53 PM) KC is in a good position to pass us up if they can find some pitching. Especially if Kenny keeps acquiring their current players and give them extensions.
  3. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 09:48 PM) This really sucks. Are the sox ever going to win a must win series vs these guys? No. Best to avoid must win series against this team.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 09:45 PM) It's a shame that the standards/expectations of a big market such as Chicago are so low. We're about to miss the playoffs for the 8th time in KW's 10 years here and there's not even a whisper of him possibly losing his job. Think a 2/10 ratio would fly well in NY or Boston? Maybe lightning in a bottle and depleting the farm has run it's course.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) It would help to get a manager who isn't scared of the Sox biggest rival and have a roster full of players that don't piss their pants when they play the Twins because they expect to lose. This has been going on for.....seems like forever, Those Manuel teams with guys like Frank and Maggs found a way to choke against the Twins. The beatdowns from the Twins wouldn't be so bad if the Sox didn't lose to the lower half of the AL.
  6. Well some of you got your wish when Danks drilled Young. Too bad it cost them the game.
  7. QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 09:10 PM) Agreed, Danks seems to get rattled easy. He might be one of those guys who puts up nice stats except in the W column.
  8. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 08:59 PM) Danks really making it easy for them here for young pitchers Danks and Floyd do not seem to be getting any better with experience. and Don Cooper gets a free pass on this
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) Once again, I sure hope he doesn't go to a team in our division. He'll own us. Watch it will be the Twins and he'll have the best numbers of his career.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 01:22 AM) Why no? The Sox have money. It's not your money. $5M from IL tax payers does to the White Sox.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 07:59 AM) Does not mean he couldn't get it. Definitely. Baseball owners have the spending habits of congress. I wonder how long that balloon will last and people aren't willing to pay $50 for a bottom dollar ticket.
  12. QUOTE (C_LEE45 @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 10:22 AM) I will be happy if this pitching staff grows some balls and drill Young tonight!!!!! I'd be happy if the pitchers had no balls and only threw strikes.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 13, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) The Sox obviously thought they were going to win with pitching (not too big an assumption despite the fact the bullpen sucked in 2009) but not defense (Teahen at third, nobody knew Lexi would be this improved at short, Juan was known for a weak arm, CQ somewhat statuesque in right, AJ not getting any younger throwing people out) and speed was supposed to be a strength like the pitching. I still think you can win with pitching and defense, even in the AL, but our pitching wasn't good enough again and our defense sucked early on, thought it turned out to be very solid up the middle with Rios, Becks and Lexi and AJ having a better year throwing wise. For us to win with this formula, the starting staff is going to have to DOMINATE and not be graded about a Bminus or B at the best, which is what they were this year. And the bullpen was a C at best. Not good enough without huge pop in the lineup. As far as Thome, I still consider the argument moot had we acquired a lefty bat like Dunn at the break which I guess he was impossible to get. I'd prefer to go back to the station to station thing next year but it is still going to all boil down to our pitching and defense. Sox fans do love their station to station baseball. People will go far to bring up stats how Thome would make a difference this year and to prove it they will bring up Kotsay's stats. (yawn) The Sox didn't really do much when they had Thome but he is glorified for game 163 which didn't have to be played if the Sox wouldn't lay down against Royal like teams. So far it looks like the Sox are doing just as well without Thome. Many people forget how bad this team was at the season. They dug a deep hole and it was deep enough that the percentages are against winning a division.
  14. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Sep 13, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) Alexei is a natural SS and has all the gifts to succeed at that position. He has always shown flashes of how good he can be defensively, and he finally puts it together this year. I just don't see how Viceido being 5'10 and 240 will turn out to be a sufficient third basemen defensively. From what i have seen so far in the big leagues and the minor leagues, it's highly unlikely Viceido can bring a good glove at third. Agreed and having a guy like Omar can make a difference. Alexei was prone to mental errors more than anything. I believe the Sox scouting seem to lack the ability to see a bad fielder and there's never going to be enough improvement without it being exposed at the big league level. You can never have enough hitting to compensate for bad defense.
  15. Well I'm happy the Colts lost. No more crap of trying to jerk around with going 16-0. That's the best thing that happened to them.
  16. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,3994057.story BTW, there's an error in this article. Thomas is now a DH for the Twins. A change of scenery can impact a player. A lot of it has to do with who is hitting before or after you, who's on base, are they the type of guy on base who knows how to distract a pitcher. Kotasy can't or never can replace a hitter like Thome but it gives you options to rest guys on the field and still give them bats. Nothing wrong with a full time DH but they should be able to field a position other than one held by an equal or better hitter. I still believe the Sox had hopes Dye would have changed his mind. Money always seems to change a player's mind. Not so with Dye so I have to give him a thumbs up for walking away from the game and being content with his accomplishments. Not Brett Favre there. Not signing Thome probably has more to do with Carlos Quentin than giving the legendary Mark Kotsay more at bats.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) I say work with Viciedo all winter on his defense at third and he is the starting third baseman next year. That would be another Josh Field experiment. If defense isn't there to begin with, how much can a guy improve in that area? Hitters go in slumps but they can still be helpful with the glove. Getting a decent guy to play 3rd may be another one of those expensive experiments. Don't the Sox have a guy to play 3rd in the organization named Morel?
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 01:21 AM) I concede he seems like a great guy, but I don't know how he made it to the big leagues. His defense is pathetic. He thinks he's a power hitter swinging that massive Soriano-sized bat. He needs to re-do his game, the way Lilly apparently worked on his last offseason. Look at the organization he came from. They aren't exactly a winning organization. This wasn't really a trade to take advantage of a naive GM or fire sale.
  19. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 13, 2010 -> 10:25 AM) I'm pretty sure you manage to call someone retarded in each of your posts. I didn't say he was. Read the post.
  20. QUOTE (BearingPro @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 12:32 AM) Ron Gardenhire figured a way to get the most from good old #25. JT has 23 dingers and everyone seemingly critical to our chances (see Twins 1-0 win Saturday night). Thats OK we got Mark Kotsay... Geez only 41 post and this is the best you can come up with? This has been beat to death more so by the baseball retarded. YAWN
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 06:59 AM) I'm still waiting for Anorexei Ramirez to bulk up. It shocked me when the say he lost 5 lbs. during last offseason. He looks like one of the dudes that played MLB baseball in the pre Steroid/Selig era.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 08:40 PM) Can we all agree the White Sox aren't built to beat teams in their own division? Sox need to work on that for the future. I can't believe it's just a couple weeks from the offseason again. This was one of the most annoying seasons in my Sox fandom for some reason. Face it the Sox pitching staff has been a paper tiger. Jackson was due for a bad start. JR needs to think things over. Mediocrity is getting expensive (common among all Chicago teams). A lot of money has been thrown around to finish in 2nd place. Put those $$$ in scouting.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) I agree 100 percent caufield. Nice post. So the question is ... did the Sox actually overachieve? I think our starters were good, not great. Bullpen same as last year. OK at times, actually very good during the 25-5, but overall unreliable. Hitters got off to that hellish start, totally unacceptable April and May. Did the team overachieve? One could say in April and May the team under achieved. All aspects of the game except for the pen were terrible.
  24. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 11:32 AM) I am not an AJ fan but who replaces him? Also Quentin has zero value as a trade option now so it is best to hang on to him. I think if AJ goes Danks is part of a deal for a catcher. I think they keep him only because of handling pitchers.
  25. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 10:51 AM) Seriously. As frustrating as it may be, if we go 8-2 on a 10 game road trip that takes us through Detroit and Boston and still manage to lose ground in the division, you just have to tip your cap. Hard to get too angry at the Sox for playing .800 ball on the road. That said, I agree we need this game and then to make up one game next series. If we can go into the Twins series 4 back, then anything is possible. Although a sweep would be quite a feat, it is not out of question and then to be 1 game back with 2 weeks to go anything can happen. I thought this team would only win about 75 games this year. I haven't gotten too upset over this season since they exceeded my expectations. It's been awhile since the Sox have put together nice winning streaks. They dug too deep of a hole to crawl out of when the season started.
