  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 08:43 PM) That makes no sense unless the "rebuilding" means being the Royals the next 10 years. Kenny already started when he got Teahan.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) Yay, finally someone has the balls to question the Sox approach on offense, and it's Hawk of all people. What did he say?
  3. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) They've made the playoffs two out of the last 10 years? The Twins have been there 6 times in that span. Also the cornerstone players Konerko and Buerhle were drafted by Schueler. They don't have a World Series to show for it. Do you think Twin fans are content with that?
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 04:55 PM) They will both stay as long as Jerry Reinsdorf is the owner. If anyone moves on my guess it is Kenny but only to a higher position in the org. They will most likely both be in their usual spots come 2011 If people were more rational about it neither one deserves to lose their job. This current team is closer to winning 90 than losing 90. Pitching was suppose top be the strength of this team was a failure at the beginning and in August. Last night was another example. Sure the hitting failed in the clutch at times but so did Danks when he had the lead late in the game.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 01:59 PM) You've got to remember there though...the GM did exactly what he was supposed to do at the time...his assignment was to make that team competitive for the playoffs so that it could be sold as a playoff-competitive team by the Tribune Company. He did his job for his employer. and he was still bad at it....
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 01:05 AM) I love Ozzie and like KW but I hope Jerry takes them both in an office after the season and rips them a new one. Why? In the end it's players on the field that have determined the outcome.
  7. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 09:49 AM) I'm with you, Chet. Anyone who wants to watch a major-market MLB team that is going through a major rebuilding phase by focusing on youngsters (because they can't/won't spend money on free agents because the owner broke the bank acquiring the team) can see one right here in Chicago, eight miles north of The Cell. There are plenty of tickets available... They did spend money and unfortunately they are stuck with bad contracts. Yet they need the balls to fire the GM who dug that hole.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 11:25 AM) I vote for using the Yankees model. Just outspend everyone and guarantee a playoff berth every season. Reinsdorf show flashes of doing that in the past but it never worked out for him.
  9. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) Eh, it was a move that didn't pay off. I'm happy for trying. I think alot of it has to do with getting re-acclimated with his swing and timing. JMO, but oh well. Plus heading back to the AL probably isn't so easy either.
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 12:31 PM) It would be nice once in a while to come out of the gate stronger which would also pump up the players a bit more too. That was part of the problem. You can't compete to be one of the worst teams in baseball at the beginning of the year and climb to the top of the division. You are always playing catchup. Few have done it. Your pen can't implode in August either. The Twins have the best record since ASB.
  11. QUOTE (daggins @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 12:06 AM) Coming into the season the Indians had a top 5 farm system and were expected by many to be an average team with lots of young breakout talent. That didn't happen, and now they look mired in a mess of low attendance and underachieving youth. Rebuilding doesn't work if you don't have a smart, future-oriented FO (as well as a lot of luck). The Rays win because they had loads of high draft positions and a smart, analytical FO making moves when necessary. You have to draft well. There's many bad teams who always have high picks and they still lose. You have to start out with good scouts.
  12. How about a new pitching coach? Have Danks and Floyd progressed? Tony Pena which I still don't see the greatness the organization does? The starting rotation was a disappointment in April and May. Bullpen was more responsible for taking the team out of 1st place in August. The two impressive pitchers of late are Sale and Jackson and they've had less exposure to Cooper.
  13. QUOTE (daggins @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 10:59 PM) Trust me, you don't want the Sox to win 60 games next year. Sometimes that's what it takes. It's more excusable than high priced mediocrity. But the farm aint so good either from what I've heard.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 11:05 PM) I'd rather start with Minnesota and see if it's gonna be the same ol s*** for another season. It's a given.
  15. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 11:30 PM) Somebody is always looking for SP IMO! The Sox shouldn't be one of them. Kenny's bad at filling holes once he's sprung them.
  16. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 11:18 PM) I would hope our FO values pitching much more than a hitter. It gets expensive when you have to get it outside the organization. Plus Freddy and Peavy are big ? for next season.
  17. QUOTE (Real @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 11:07 PM) Does $$$ make enough sense for you? Because the Sox will not have a lot of it next year. You basically can't bring Konerko back unless you trim significant salary elsewhere. Lots of empty seats for the rest of this season, and definitely for next year. But they say that every year. After getting Jackson ($8M next season) and Manny kinda makes me think they're bluffing. I think it's stupid for any organization to discuss money in the press in a sport with no salary cap. They come off like a charity for cancer research instead of a business.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 10:54 PM) Rios, Thornton, Manny all really sucked tonight. Will Manny have an RBI or extra base hit in a White Sox uniform by the time he decides to call it a season? Looks like Manny isn't playing for a new contract.
  19. QUOTE (daggins @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 10:50 PM) So does that cement that the Sox will try and get a kings ransom for Danks this offseason? I'm not sure I would trust Kenny trading guys with big league experience. Then again you should get a lot for a starter.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) How bout being aggressive when we, uh, led the division after wiping out that 9.5 game deficit. Unfortunately at that point the starters couldn't throw complete games. 5 back to back losses by the pen is the best remedy to ruin hope for the post season.
  21. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 10:09 PM) Its the same thing over and over and over. Their game plan is simple. Throw lots of breaking pitches and pitch backwards. We get very aggressive and get ourselves out. When we get men on, throw breaking pitches and expand the zone. Our game plan is the opposite. Throw lots of fastballs, because for some reason in all the years we have played them, we haven't figured out that they hit fastballs. They catch the ball and play good defense. We pucker up and kick the ball. They hit the cut off man, We over throw the ball and allow the trailers to get into scoring position. They shorten up their stroke and make contact with men on. We swing from our heels and have no game plan. 3-1 and 0-2 are the same count as far as we are concerned. They pound the zone with strikes, we like to get behind hitters. Because you know, no one is expecting a 2-0 fastball. The twins run the bases aggressively. We run fast, sure into outs more than other teams, but we run fast. You left out that the Twins don't usually beat themselves. I do like their approach to hitting.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) Sort of true, but with Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Mark, and an alleged good bullpen, a lot of people thought we'd pitch our way to the title. I was a little worred, however, with Teahen at third and Lexi at short with the weak arm in left. Remember Lexi was not nearly as good a defender heading into this season as he is now. A lot of people thought our pitching would dominate, led by Peavy. The best way to make Alexi bad is to put Teahan at 3rd. The whole was too deep to climb out of in April and May, only one of baseball's rarest winning streaks gave false hope. I never thought Peavy would dominate since pitching in the AL is not like the AAA NL.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) I simply love baseball, but this is going to be a horrible offseason for me, cause it's going to take a while to look forward to seeing the Sox play again after this dysfunctional season. The 25-5 was awesome, don't get me wrong. I don't know how anyone thought this team was a 1st place/World Series calibre team back in February. Wasn't this team predicted to be a 3rd or 4th place team in the offseason?
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) They deserved it. Let's go Reds! BTW, Hudson pitched a great game tonight.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 14, 2010 -> 09:53 PM) KC is in a good position to pass us up if they can find some pitching. Especially if Kenny keeps acquiring their current players and give them extensions.
