QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 03:53 PM) For someone who keeps referring to 35 years of misery, yet are still around to complain on a daily basis, there isn't much more that really needs to be said. For someone who keeps referring to a so-called "fickle" fan base, how ironic that you are here criticizing the diehards for expressing some frustration on the current state of our last place ball club.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) There are some miserable people here today. Get off of the computer and do something more productive than complaining! LOL! Yes, how unreasonable for White Sox fans to come to a White Sox message board and post statements and opinions that resemble complaints on a day when the last place White Sox played another disappointing game. I mean, god forbid!

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) I would love to see JR and everyone under him gone, until that happens team treads water with an occasional playoff appearance every 8 to 10 years. Arrow pointing up. It's really going to be a great situation for whoever the next owner is. The "Jerry/Kenny/Rick/Buddy/Robin Variety Show" is not going to be a tough act to follow.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 02:48 PM) Another HOME series loss. 29,000 sent home disappointed yet again. Detroit came in reeling, leave feeling pretty good. And for any of that 29,000 who choose not to come back anytime soon until the product improves, they'll get blamed by some for why the product doesn't improve, because these fickle fans will be limiting the necessary "resources" to fix this mess. Now how is THAT for a bass ackwards way of looking at things!

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 02:34 PM) Sox sure are good on weekends sending people home pissed who are not coming back to see this crap in 2015. Some around here might tell you these fans deserve this for being so gosh-darned "fickle" all the time.

I hate Swirsky asking so many questions, but I love listening to Stoney's answers. A lot to be learned listening to his insights. -

KW: play is "embarassing" but team can still win ALC

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 08:51 AM) Whichever name you want to assign to each era is fine, but there was a clear strategic shift that occurred beginning with the trade deadline in 2013, and the team is associating that with Rick Hahn's move to the primary executive role for day-to-day operations. I have no doubt that they're all involved, but the Sox have NOT conducted themselves the same way the past couple years. The most recent thread of action is the one we should be judging when considering the effect of Sox leadership currently. So here's what I would tell you. I think the use of the term "primary executive" was, perhaps, applicable to Williams during his run as GM. You didn't see Reinsdorf keeping Schueler around in this role of "executive vice president of baseball ops" during that time. But now with Williams in that newly created role, and with Hahn having been his assistant GM all of those years prior, it's really hard to imagine that this so-called rebuild isn't more a co-developed approach then not. Let's also not forget that shortly after the Peavy trade and the start of the rebuild, Kenny was quick to get in the press to let us know he was ready to do the exact same thing after the 2010 season. Unfortunately, that pesky "competitive spirit" of Mr. Reinsdorf gummed things up then, as he overrode that strategic decision that offseason in favor of the Adam Dunn-led "All In" effort. So they may call Hahn the "primary" exec, but the management structure and Kenny seemingly still hanging around quite a bit suggests Hahn isn't so much on his own plan for running this team as we think. -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 06:34 PM) 2013 was NOT RH's team. It was holdover from the KW show. RH was "on the clock" beginning with the Peavy trade. That was his clean slate. Also, Thad, it's June 2nd. Let's wait until at LEAST September before we put a wrap on this season. The 2013 team was more Rick Hahn's than it wasn't. It wasn't like he came from another organization to inherit that mess. As Asst. General Manager, he had influence on every single individual comprising the roster that year. He also had an entire offseason beforehand to make changes to the roster, and he didn't, really, other than adding Keppinger. So I'd say he is as much to blame for that horrific '13 season as his predecessor. It seems a little far fetched to me to suggest that from 2002-2012, when Kenny was GM and Hahn was Asst. GM, that somehow Kenny was solely responsible for baseball decisions made to the team during that timeframe, and that subsequent to 2012, it has all just been "The Rick Hahn Show". I think Kenny's periodic interviews suggest rather strongly that he is still very influential on any baseball decisions made. So as far as I can tell, since 2002, the White Sox have essentially been run by the trio of Reinsdorf, Williams & Hahn, with only a change in titles for the latter two a few years ago, while maintaining a consensus view between the three in terms of strategy and decisions made throughout these past 13 years. -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 06:03 PM) It's worth noting that our winning percentage is actually currently better than last year's and also that every player has sucked and also that it's June 2nd. And we're THREE GAMES under .500. And we want to fire the GM. WHo has increased our winning percentage every season so far. Actually, that's not true. The 63 wins in '13 was a decrease from '12, when in his first offseason as GM after '12 his biggest addition/upgrade to the team was Jeff Keppinger. With nowhere really to go but up, yes, he did increase the winning % last year by getting the team up to a whopping 73 wins. And now we are trending slightly better than that so far this year, but we're in last place, so that uptick really doesn't mean a whole lot. So given Hahn has been a major part of the brain trust (such as it is) with Reinsdorf & Kenny over the past 13 years that has garnered all of two playoff appearances, I'm going to need to see a whole lot more than these slight upticks to have confidence he is the right guy to get us out of the baseball gutter. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 02:00 PM) This is Hahn's 3rd season as the GM. He took over a team whose shelf life expired and was pretty bad. He's done a lot the last 3 years to make things bearable. I still think they will be entertaining this summer. 63 wins in '13. 73 wins last year. A last place team a third of the way through this season. I'm not sure how much more "bearable" I can take! -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 03:53 PM) Because the White Sox could care less what Soxtalk.com thinks, and rightfully so. Anyone who would run their franchise simply off of fan sentiment would be out of a job in a heartbeat. Lol - oh, I don't know. Maybe it's time for the roll of the dice and start running this thing based on Soxtalk poster intelligence. I'd switch out this perennially, non-achieving triumvirate of Jerry, Kenny and Rick with "iamshack", "eminor3rd", and "balta1701" and take my chances with them in a heartbeat. You have to admit - the results couldn't be much worse! -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2015 -> 05:42 PM) It is the schtick. Then there is reality. Reality dictates that a team understands the nature of its fanbase and try to cater to them to some extent. It is the entire reason we have never seen a completely sell of like the Cubs can do because of their fan loyalty. It is why the team was looking for near major league ready talent in most of its deals a few years back, instead of waiting for a process that could take half of a decade or more. Even if it failed, a slow erosion of fans being better than the bandwagon all emptying at once, and stupid stuff like BLACK FLAG coming back into vogue with the more meatball portion of the population. It is why as soon as the rebuild even started to look like it was turning a corner, the team went out and bought a bunch of major leaguers at market prices in an attempt to bring back some of the bandwagon. If Sox fans want to paint themselves as smart, they have to be able to take an honest look at the whole picture, and understand all of the pieces of the puzzle, not just the parts that generate calls on the Score. If you are ignoring parts of the story to paint your narrative, you aren't half as smart as you think. But no, let's go ahead and resume the whining about what a horrible 35 years it has been, and people can't take the horrible pain anymore. WHY ME? WHY DOES OWNERSHIP DO THIS TO ME? I AM ENTITLED TO BETTER! Reality. 35 years, five postseason appearances. Only four of the 25 non-expansion teams with fewer appearances. Outside of 2005, a combined four postseason victories in the other four appearances in '83, '93, '00, and '08. Reality. One division title, one postseason victory in the entire decade since '05. 212 losses since April of '13. Reality. Cumulative effect of Jerry Reinsdorf and his management team's failure to field something even remotely resembling a winning product: a big market team practically last in attendance and TV ratings in all of baseball as we speak. Schtick. All of this is somehow the fans' fault. GMAFB.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2015 -> 03:35 PM) I did a couple of times, but thanks for the non-answer. It tells me that you know the answer. And why are we even talking about bandwagon fans at this point in time, anyway! This team has amassed 212 losses in the past 2 1/4 years now. That's not appealing to any fans, bandwagon or otherwise. Where the debate should be is what we think Moe, Larry, and Curly, a.k.a. Jerry, Kenny, and Rick, should do to reverse these sad fortunes.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2015 -> 03:35 PM) I did a couple of times, but thanks for the non-answer. It tells me that you know the answer. Lol - you asked me to define a bandwagon, did you. Can't believe I didn't rush to fill that request. I know, why don't you take care of that query yourself by looking it up, and meanwhile, the rest of us interested in discussing solutions will further that debate. More winning, less whining!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2015 -> 07:53 AM) If the idea that the Sox either have to have an ideal fan base, or move isn't hyperbole, I don't know what is. It is taking the debate to a ridiculous extreme that completely ignores reality, but then again, that is what most of this debate has been about. BTW, I don't think I ever saw you actually define what a bandwagon fanbase is. Um, maybe because you never asked me? Or if you did, I missed the request. But even if you did, I don't care to expend the energy to do so. You're the one whining and gnashing your teeth over this notion of bandwagon fans, not me. What I'm interested in is a solution to the attendance problem, which I claim will be solved with more winning, specifically via some exciting play in the offseason - which to date, outside of '05, hasn't happened in our lifetimes. Nothing more, and certainly nothing less.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2015 -> 06:49 AM) WHY DON"T YOU POOR PEOPLE JUST GO GET A JOB THAT PAYS BETTER! Um, yes, Miss? Can I get an order of some grilled hyperbole with a side of sautéed bluster? Thanks! Oh, and a large diet. Thanks!!
