QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 08:28 PM) Neither one very good at this point. One can't play MLB-caliber defense; the other, can't hit at the MLB level, at least not yet.

More evidence of Chicago media turning on Ventura
Thad Bosley replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 03:46 PM) I heard another Steve Stone say he had no desire to do this. He likes what he's doing now. For most of his post-playing days, he has actually publicly mentioned on many occasions his desire to be a GM someday. I think it's only been in the past year or so that he's suggested the time for him to do so has now past, given his age (coming up on 68). -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 11:08 AM) lol I'm tellin' ya - ride the Stone Pony right on out of the "Land of the Williams/Hahn Bad Decisions", out of the cellar of the American League, and onto baseball greatness!! -

Out with Williams and Hahn, in with STEVE STONE. That's right, you heard me - put Stoney in charge of the whole production! He's always wanted to be a GM, and he's certainly smart enough to do so. The timing is right as he's at the end of his TV contract at the end of this season. He would pass the Jerry Reinsdorf loyalty program smell test, while at the same time he would bring in a new and fresh perspective on how to run an organization. And then once you install him in as GM or exec. VP of baseball ops or whatever, then let him find the right baseball mind to run things in the dugout. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 10:45 AM) You love the Royals, the Cubs, the Astros, the Pirates, probably the Rays. A couple things those teams have in common are they haven't won anything for 30 years and they had to be very bad a very long time to get where they are at. The White Sox have been bad for 3 years, and people here can't take it. They tried to win this year, but the rebuild on the fly is still in order. They did surrender a 2nd and 3rd round pick, and sent some prospects to Oakland. (Not to much whining about Semien lately) But unless you are in JR's will, the rebuild is still on. They do have a plan. Some of it is going to hinge on some of their players playing up to their capabilities. I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean - "they have a plan". When don't they have a plan? Didn't they have a plan in '09? '11? Last year? "They", meaning the brain trust comprising Jerry, Kenny and Rick, always have a plan. The problem is the track record with their co-developed plans. It's not very good. Their "plans" have amounted to just two trips to the postseason in 13 seasons of working together as a team and executing their plans. So when you say "they have a plan" as a way of somewhat encouraging us to be optimistic about the future, it's a bit of a hard sell, unfortunately. Again, given the collective track record of this particular management team.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 28, 2015 -> 10:19 PM) White Sox baseball, lack of accountability and 100% loyal to bad! In all honesty, it starts at the very top. Until we get a new owner, or he shocks us all by making changes in upper management, this team will continue to lack a direction and be mediocre to bad. Irrefutable.

One to nothing in favor of the White Sox!

With all of this talk about the Sox' inability to either draft and/or develop position players, what has Rick Hahn done since he became GM to address this issue? This was a known problem under Kenny's run as GM, but what has Hahn done to improve in this area? He obviously has left Bell and Laumann in their respective roles as the leaders of player development and scouting. But has he instructed either of those two to make any substantial changes either in personnel or philosophy? Because if he hasn't, then this notion that somehow the "Rick Hahn Era" is different than that of the "Kenny Williams Era" is a farce. Not one thing seems to have changed except for a couple of titles on the business cards.

Fundamentals now, boys! Please!

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 08:45 PM) This will sound disingenuous but Jose has to pitch better. Giving up that many hits, he's lucky they don't have a bigger lead IMO. Stone aptly pointed out that they probably would have, had it not been for the fact Q didn't walk anyone.

I do pull a lot for Sanchez to figure it out with the bat, because he's something special with that leather.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 08:36 PM) Why did we bring in Duke against a bunch of RH?? Robin is so stupid They're paying this guy to be the 8th inning guy.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 07:59 PM) And 2b and SS Almost as big. At least you have a glimmer of hope in two youngsters at 2nd, and a keep-your-fingers-crossed hope that our All-Star shortstop from just last year will snap out of this year's woes. But we have zero going on at 3rd and catcher, and I mean zero!
-
We really have two huge, gaping holes at both 3rd and catcher.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) Along with all of the great advice they get... They don't need any advice from anyone. They obviously have it all under control. Just look at the record!

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 04:31 PM) Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 4m4 minutes ago Robin Ventura: "Where I’m at and the people I work with, if they didn’t have faith in me I’d already be gone." #WhiteSox Faith and loyalty - the White Sox way! Meanwhile, over in Philly, Ryne Sandberg has resigned as manager there due in large part to his team's dismal results. But it's also because many of those who might have similar faith in him and therefore might help him save his job, will be unemployed themselves as major front office moves are expected soon. Good, 'ol fashioned, results-oriented accountability, seemingly alive and well in the City of Brotherly Love. And on the South Side, the Jerry Reinsdorf legendary loyalty reward program soldiers on. Wonder which team will return to postseason play sooner - the White Sox or Phillies! -
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 05:50 PM) He got it right last time too, Hahn is not to blame for any of this. He did his job to the best of his abilities and the last time I checked the GM dosen't suit up and play. Well, two things: A.) There isn't a general manager today or in the history of the game who would agree with your assertion that Hahn is not to blame for ANY of this. As GM, he is responsible for assembling the talent to fill out the roster, and he therefore shares in any praise should the team achieve success, or blame, if the team does not. This team that Hahn has assembled for 2015 is practically the worst team in the American League, and so to absolve him from any blame or accountability is simply ludicrous. And B.) This season is heading towards Hahn's second last place finish in his three years at the helm. Granted, three years isn't a terribly long time, but if the "best of his abilities" doesn't start turning things around sooner rather than later, then it'll be time to turn to someone with better abilities.

White Sox July 2 International Signing Period preview
Thad Bosley replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 07:20 PM) Hahn has to take the word of his scouts and bosses just like any other GM. He has made an impressive amount of rationally sound baseball moves, given the org's position the last few years. We'll then, he ought to be mighty skeptical by now of "the word of his scouts and bosses", given the current state of the organization. Don't you think? -

Thad Bosley replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 06:55 PM) He shouldn't be co-GM, Rick Hahn has done nothing to have his job questioned, he's a fantastic GM but if the team were to fire Laumann, I would think that Paddy becomes the internal favorite for becoming the new scouting director. Really?!?! How in the world could you make such statements, based on the results of the past three seasons. He's on his way to his second last place finish in three years. That hardly classifies him as a "fantastic GM", of all things, and certainly opens the judgments and decisions he's made to plenty of questions. -
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 06:45 PM) This is what they did with Ventura. Rinse and repeat - maybe it will work this time. I wonder why they chose Ventura to being with. Do they have a oldie but goldie dart board to make decisions? This is getting worse then Veeck's circus acts. Lol - well, Veeck did make Don Kessinger "player manager" back in '79. Why doesn't Reinsdorf do the same with Robin, and then throw him out at third base. He can probably still field the position better than Conor, and likely wouldn't hit any worse than the Conor/Gordon platoon.

Rick Hahn is the last person you should blame
Thad Bosley replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 09:45 PM) That's where I hope Reinsdorf sees the light finally, and allows some major changes with scouting and instruction. The guy hasn't demonstrated the ability to "see the light" for 35 years. Do you really think that's going to change now? -
Patience, Peoples. Patience! Mr. Jerry Reinsdorf, he of the "very competitive spirit" Reinsdorfs that Messrs. Williams & Hahn told us so much about after the Melky signing (you remember, when they tried to convince us how above and beyond the team went to sign Cabrera; meanwhile, all that signing did was push the team payroll to 15th in MLB and only $2M ahead of the Royals - yeah, real competitive!), is said to be "very frustrated" with the situation at hand, according to Mr. Hahn in Levine's column yesterday. As frustrated and even more so than any of the fans, quoth Hahn. Ok, fine - as it should be. He's the boss, and the buck stops at his desk for accountability and responsibility for his team and organization's performance. So let's see what this "very competitive spirit" of his has in store for us for leading this franchise out of the complete abyss it finds itself in today. The MLB roster is a mess, and the farm system, which looked to be somewhat on the rise there for awhile, suddenly seems to have taken a step or two backwards. Firing the manager and/or a coach or two isn't going to solve the fundamental problems with this team. The solutions will need to be far more systemic, and I look forward to hearing from Mr. Reinsdorf as to what those will be.

QUOTE (joegraz @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 08:24 PM) Only if he's terminally ill....and no, I'm not hoping for that. But it is, in fact, the only way anything changes. I was being facetious. I expect no substantial changes from the Chairman whatsoever. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 08:00 PM) Now that Rodon no longer counts our system is right back to as bad as it was just about any point in the previous 5 years. Not to worry. I read today in Bruce Levine's column that Mr. Reinsdorf is very "frustrated" with the whole situation, so I expect major changes in philosophy and personnel as it relates to drafting and assembling a Major League roster to be forthcoming any day now.
