  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 05:05 PM) What would the Braves give the Sox to take Uggla? LOL! Just who the White Sox need - DUNN Uggla!!
  2. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 04:42 PM) No big deal. It's the one time ever where my alumni has a relevant player that could be drafted by the sox. Freshman year he probably stole 30+ bases. He had a foot injury this year that slowed him down. I could see him being a 20-30 SB player in the big leagues. He's been playing short stop and has a great arm. Not sure if he could project to CF. He's still pretty lanky and will fill out so maybe some more power potential? I would think his HR potential would be in the 20ish range. I'm a huge fan but maybe I'm drinking the koolaid since I watch a lot of the games. Just my two cents Just 20-30 stolen bases? I think he'll be a candidate for far more than that. It's his blazing speed that sets him apart from the other prospects and what has him in discussions about being a top five pick. He's already been described as a "base-stealing phenom" at the collegiate level. And with that speed, combined with his good bat and excellent defensive skills at a premium position, to me he's the easy choice for an organization whose farm system lacks elite position players. I, for one, hope he's available when it's the Sox' turn to pick next year and that they select him.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:43 PM) Infield depth isnt a concern, I think its impact MI. Every year one of ours is a hole in the lineup or defensively. Our rotation also could be a bit diferent on opening day. As if the evening wasn't interesting enough!
  4. Next item up: who is going to bat behind Abreu in the lineup to protect him!
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:23 PM) I think having Alexei and Viciedo on the team had a lot to do with getting him. Hopefully, he turns out to be as good, if not better, than Cespedes and Puig. Hopefully, his presence will help Alexei and Viciedo reach their full potential. Now wouldn't that be something!
  6. I don't see how with this much information out, and Rosenthal even mentioning it on TV, they can wait 'till after the WS to make an announcement on this.
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 07:52 PM) Wonder if there is any bad blood between the Sox and Rangers from the Rios negotiations, then the Sox starting Axelrod versus Indians the last week when they were locked in a playoff race . . . If there was, would that have any relevance to what's going on right now?
  8. QUOTE (balfanman @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 07:21 AM) Drew Carey? You youngster, shouldn't that be Bob Barker? Actually, I'm old enough to remember Bob Barker when he still dyed his hair!
  9. I've had "The Price is Right" theme song going on in my head as I've read all these guesses. Let's hope it's Rick Hahn who ends up running up to hug the stuffing out of Drew Carey when all is said and done with Abreu!
  10. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 05:31 PM) I loathe Hawk and am embarrassed my favorite baseball team employs him. He is an oafish novelty act that is about insightful as a bag of rocks. The day he's finally gone will be a celebratory one indeed. Your what hurts?
  11. I'm as big a fan of Hawk as anyone, but I do enjoy it when Stoney grabs the play-by-play wheel and takes the game for a spin.
  12. I have what I feel might be an "irrational exuberance" about the future of Gordon Beckham in a White Sox uniform. But I'm really enjoying watching him perform both at the plate and with the glove these days. Hopefully he has finally turned the corner!
  13. I don't think this newfound payroll flexibility is going to do anything to diminish the team's aversion to pursuing clients of Scott Boras.
  14. 2009 - hated you, Alex 2010 - liked you, Alex 2011 - hated you, Alex 2012 - loved you, Alex 2013 - liked you, Alex Good luck in Texas, Alex!
  15. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 07:00 PM) And you probably think Courtney Hawkins is a sure fire major league superstar in the making, worthy of top 5 prospect ranking. Good grief - what a silly comment. Who talks about ANY 19 year-old as being a "sure fire major league superstar", no matter what round they were drafted? You can certainly like their chances, given when they were drafted, and I continue to expect great things of Courtney at some point given the ability he universally is said to possess. But why you would feel otherwise with him being all of 19 years old and without the benefit of a full year in professional ball under his belt is beyond me, other than an incessant need to be negative around here all the time. It's so disappointing to read comments like this one, and luckily it's very much the exception rather than the rule on this otherwise well-informed site.
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 09:36 PM) Thad I applaud your patience and I would normally agree since I am among the most optimistic of Sox fans but the writing is all over the wall already on this season. Bad defense ,bad offense. Bad luck. Bad mojo. 0dd numbered year. Injuries and on and on. I'm just hoping whatever is going on doesn't end up with Sale on the DL and Danks shows improvement and getting 1 or 2 legitimate ML ready player at the trade deadline. The Sox played good ball only for that stretch that got them to .500 .That Cubs series the bad mojo really set in. Pitcher HR's, grand slams, terrible hitting, pitchers not holding any leads, and no HR's for us, it's just been brutal to behold. We are not world beaters by any stretch of the imagination. I also happen to think we are not a 95-100 loss team, either, as this site's most infamous provacteur suggested earlier this evening. I still think there is sufficient talent on this ballclub that will surface and even out the results on the season. Will that be enough to prohibit us from being sellers in the next six, seven weeks or so? Probably not. But I don't think we are in the dire straits that some would lead us to believe.
  17. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 09:17 PM) Says who? Hawk can keep saying this, but at some point, your team is what it is, not what you think it could be. Says the 2012 season. This is, for the most part, that same team, the same team who was in first place for the majority of the season, and save the abysmal late season collapse in those final two weeks, would have won the division with around 90 wins.
  18. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 09:09 PM) We're more than 1/3 way through the season. How much do you need to see? 2/3? It's not mid-April anymore. I understand that. I also understand that before this streak, we were a .500 ballclub that had not yet played anywhere near as well as it could play, as it played last year when it was in first place for most of the season. Now I'm not delusional - we are not going to catch that Detroit ballclub this year. I'd just rather judge the team in it's entirety outside of this streak when the team is playing in a more normal course of play.
  19. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 09:09 PM) Believe what you want to believe. That's clearly the mantra under which you seem to operate.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 09:04 PM) This team has shown no signs of breaking out of their season long hitting slump. The starting pitching started off great, but even that has fallen off (and you have Peavy being out as well). It's very difficult to imagine this team ending the season within 10 games of the Tigers. There's just way too big of a talent difference between the two teams. Points well taken, Fathom, as always. I'm just not willing to rush to any conclusions yet on a team that's going through a bad streak. I know the team has it's shortcomings, but I'd rather evaluate them in a more normalized stretch of the season.
  21. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 08:55 PM) 95 losses is within realm of possibility as they have played one of the easiest schedules in MLB thus far. Easy to say in the throws of a losing streak, which every team faces eventually. Were you calling for 95 losses before this streak? I don't recall as much. The 1983 team was heading for a similar fate right around this time, and how did that eventually turn out? The point is, the range of the "realm of possibility" remains quite large at this point in the season.
  22. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 08:47 PM) I think this year will be rock bottom in this rebuild. Don't exaggerate. "Rock bottom" is in the 100 loss season range. This team won't be quite that awful, as they will pull out of the current rut they're in, and at the very least, play somewhere in between the team that was in first place for the majority of last year and where they're at right now.
  23. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 08:42 PM) make it three. Hitting successfully only 15% of the time at the Major League Level for as long as Dunn has is just not acceptable. When is the breaking point for the Sox brass to pull the plug on this disaster?
  24. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 08:39 PM) I could go my entire life without watching Dunn bat again. Ditto
  25. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 08:28 PM) He's a man in motion that's for sure. The look on his face as he was operating, or attempting to operate, his smart phone was funny. Shhhh! Ballgame in progress.
